I don't think the OP thinks much of our horse races courses either..
Perhaps he should just not attend himself....others like Wimbledon and will miss it

I wont miss the disgusting lavatories , the total lack of customer care for twenty years, the six packers or the dodgy track.
I will miss the craic we had , taking money off henwood and old tony morris , the beers , the laughs ,sending back the sh1te meals in the restaurent, the good times and the bad .

Once such a glorious track, too. Ger McKenna's Lartigue Note my first Derby there. Wont seem the same now, although veterans will dare say not a patch on White City, but that was before my time. With Hall Green said to be closing, if Derby stays with GRA it might be in my back-yard at Belle Vue!

Nothing wrong with the track ,the problem is money that should have been spent on Grandstand being used for Luxury offices in the city by a team of twats ,and the Miller never should have been built another fraudulent waste ...

I think the point is that if Greyhound Racing remained at Wimbledon then the track was going to rebuilt
which it is a little overdue for, so the OP had that right

Not necessarily so Woody, Clive Feltham who owns the right to the 'Greyhound Derby' name is going to decide on best track
which does not have to be GRA...on another thread
If Belle Vue can put in another winning line 10 metres further, I suppose it could be considered

The problem we've got now is, we don't only have tracks closing, we have the anti's jumping on the bandwagon of the unhappy trainers/owners speaking out against the people running the sport - that is not good

It was one a decent place, but unfortunately it has been left to rot. Who could ever have thought that London would be left with no tracks. The future does indeed look bleak for the sport.

Ron-Russian • February 25, 2016 11:07 PM GMT bg you will be betting on virtual greyhound racing sooner than you think, i think Sad
If I could only find the form and previous videos of virtual greyhound racing
then I would probably have already started Ron, the races look remarkably trouble free

I remember when White City closed I was all for Wembley or Hove as being the new home for the Derby. When Wimbledon was chosen I felt that the track was just wrong for such an event (but what do I know?). To an extent, even though there have been some great finals held there, I still retain those feelings. Here we are again trying to find another home and Hove is still open. What would actually be wrong with the distance of 515m? The distance dropped by 20m when it went to Wimbledon so why do some feel it may be a problem? It's still a big, fair, 4 bends isn't it?

515 is too far ,and he location is not the best imo anyone, north of watford will be on the M25 trying to get there ,Good luck with that The whole scheme now is to get the race at Towcester ,dont worry what anyone says ,that is the Scheme ...

Cant understand why any GRA track is being supported by the greyhound fraternity. It will all end only one way. We all know the asset stripping of the stadiums has gone on and will continue until every last penny has been squeezed. I was at Hall Green a couple of years ago and saw the state of the exterior and thought at the time its days were numbered. A couple of weeks later the GRA announced they had sold the freeholds to their remaining tracks and set up lease arrangements with break clauses. End of the road for the GRA. They should not have rights to the Greyhound Derby. The only reason Perry Bar and Belle Vue have some sort of future are the tote turnovers. Oxford will never return as the owners will sit on it and do the bare minimum to upkeep it as it is now protected and wait for a change of councillors. Hall Green will have a lot of save support but they cannot win if the council vote for housing which they are likely to do. Oxford did not vote for housing and it remains empty. No one in the game is going to offer the sort of money to get it out of GRA hands. Any compulsory purchase will get locked up in legality for years. The fundamental problem is greyhound racing owns nothing..why the sport has not got together over the years and purchased or built its own stadia seems strange. I guess it is too fragmented. It shows on these forums..blame the bookies, blame the promoters, blame the GBGB etc no suggestion or ideas on forward thinking policy..

WIMBLEDON will stage its final meeting on Saturday June 18 as the news the sport was dreading was announced on Thursday morning.
This will be two 'farewell' Saturdays after this year’s William Hill Derby final.
Clive Feltham, MD of the GRA, the operators there, said: “The Derby final is the first Saturday in June, so we have decided to stage two further farewell Saturdays after that to give everyone an opportunity to visit one last time. Our lease ends on July 14, and that will then give us the time to vacate. We have looked at all the options, and decided once we had reached this conclusion, it was better to inform everyone immediately.
"It is desperately sad, but the owners [Galliard Homes] secured the planning permission they required for development in December, nothing relevant has happened since and there is no room left for manoeuvre. Whatever happens with the mayor, our lease has ended.”
The track will continue racing Thursday and Saturdays through to the Derby final, then the two farewell Saturdays.
Wimbledon is the last track with a London postcode. At one stage there were 25 alone in the capital, but the opening of betting shops in 1961 has seen a constant decline. There will now be just 24 left in the whole of Britain.
“We are giving just under four months notice to everyone because we feel that’s the right thing to do. Also greyhounds and trainers will be looking elsewhere, and realistically the kennel strength will come under pressure, so opting for these two Saturday night farewells seems sensible,” added Feltham. “These will involve a mixture of top class opens and graded events, I’d again like to thank all our staff, trainers and their owners for their support through this period."
He undertook to support any greyhounds that now end up as retired, rather than transferred elsewhere. “That’s what we did previously at Catford and Oxford, but Wimbledon has a very low strength, currently 120, whereas most tracks would have around 300, so at least that helps,” he said.
Feltham added that he is hoping to confirm the position of next year’s Derby before the Derby final this year. “Discussions continue, it’s unlikely to be at a GRA track, but our intention is to secure an arrangement that maintains its format and prize-money – we agree that it’s a vital element in encouraging interest in the sport."

I've seen all the greats run there since I was a kid from back in the 70's, such a great shame but the place has gone to rack and ruin. I'll go to this years Derby and the last ever meeting but it's just heartbreaking to see what has happened to a once magnificent greyhound stadium that has provided me with unforgettable memories over the last 40 years.

Hope those AFC Wimbledon fans are happy. Whined about losing the original club to Milton Keynes, yet think nothing of moving in and trampling over other peoples sporting interests. Hope they fail to go up then plummet like a stone. Hypocritical parasites.

Agree it's just heartbreaking to see what has happened to a once magnificent greyhound stadium, and just unbelievable that there will be no dog track left with a London postcode.
