Yellow Printer
Many experienced racegoers consider Yellow Printer the fastest dog ever to race and he won the Irish Derby in 1968 which is sufficient to give him immortality but, like Ataxy, Quare Times and Tanist, he was almost too fast for most greyhound tracks with their sharp turns. A fawn dog whelped in march 1966, he obtained his tremendous speed from his grand sire, Hi There, and his great grandsire through his grand dam, Sally's Gossip, whose sire was the great Endless Gossip. Owned by Sir Robert Adeane and Pauline Wallis, the dog hit the headlines when making an early exit from the 1968 English Derby yet bouncing back incredibly well to win the Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park in 29.11sec. The time had never been bettered before for this event and was not equalled or beaten until Lively Band six years later. Yellow Printer won the final when beating Russian Gun, an equally fine greyhound, who had won the event the previous year. He was trained during much of his career by John Bassett at Clapton, who said of him: "Placid types are best. They take nothing out of themselves and Yellow Printer was the perfect example. He was quiet, placid, nothing ever disturbed him. He was the perfect gentleman at all times – an aristocrat of the canine world." No words summed up this great champion better. |

By:
His greatest offspring was Super Rory, who was beaten @ 1/3 in the final a few years later.
Patricias Hope won that year, completing a famous Derby double. |
|
By:
Patricias Hope another Clapton dog who won it in 1972 and again in 1973 when trained in Ireland.

Do not remember my first winning greyhound bet but remember every dog winning that I owned ,suggest poster who backed a 10/1 in the last at white city ,
could have been a six bender graded over 680M ,I loved those races and the H1 for the dodges of course . |

By:
Would it not have still been 725 yards in 1974 at White City?

"Patricias Hope another Clapton dog who won it in 1972 and again in 1973 when trained in Ireland."
One of the best dogs I've ever seen, and in-between that famous Derby double he was retired to stud in Ireland and was responsible for a few hundred pups running around the Irish countryside. Served over 60 bitches then came back and won the Derby again in '73. |

Back in the late 70's my grandad took me to The Stow for the 1st time and my first ever bet was on a dog called BLACK EARL over 640m, i think it was in a 1st round heat of the Grand Prix. It absolutely hosed up and I was immediately addicted to the sport, so much so that I would bunk off school every Tuesday to go trials.
I will never forget Ormalu Boy (a regular open race winner at Romford over 750m) winning the (S2)last by 5 lengths and winning me and my pool mates £18,000 on the jackpot Or Scurlogue Champ coming from another county after practically stopping to get beat around 4 lengths in the 4 dog race with Ballyregan Bob, Glenowen Queen and I think Track Man. And of course winning my 1st Open race as an owner at the track, with Devils Mojo (actually won twice in a week over the 640m (which was a sighter at 9/1) and an 830m maiden at 3/1, both by her customary short head. How I miss the Stow ![]() |

By:
As an owner, She Looks Fine with Alf Ellis at Catford, joint owned with Efdal the legend. She won her first race after we smashed her behind the boards.
Cracking bitch who ran sprints, standard and 6 bends and she won an open at 33s. |
