quite a few winners appeared on the podium without owners or trainers,particularly noticeable being the absences of messrs Lister and Wallis. As far as I remember Charlie never showed up at all during the competition so I presume there are reasons for this but if the so called champion trainer cant be bothered to show his face on the big night of the year then you begin to wonder whats going on. I know the kennelhand trotted out some cobblers about commitments at Towcester but thats a load of nonsense. Was it sour grapes or a deliberate snub to the sponsors. Dont suppose we'll ever find out though

Bollards. There is nobody more committed to the future of the sport than Mark Wallis - and there are many like him.
Nobody can be in two places at once. Hills don't pay Mark Wallis, or his staff's wages, do they. Towcester most certainly has to be his main effort at any time. |

Wimbledon overcrowded in the stand yet two thirds empty , still got wooden stands , how long ago was Bradford ? The place is an absolute sh1te hole ..... |

wasn't overcrowded Saturday, was a poor attendance I thought, less and less people going every year

so people are happy to go to an event and not be able to see the action on the track ? if that ain't overcrowding what is ?

I was there, it was not overcrowded. What has seeing the action got to do with it? Overcrowding has nothing to do why you struggle to see any of the action at Wimbledon. On September 19th Shelbourne will be severely overcrowded and uncomfortable and you'll still be able to see all the action

looked over crowded on sky and if you aint on the terracing by the start of the race at shelbourne you won't see feck all

well it was not overcrowded and unless you're a midget ya can still see the track at SPK standing in front or to the side of the books

its not just seeing the action though is it ? its about getting served for a beer, getting about , getting a seat all comes into "overcrowding"
That wooden stand at Bend 1 is unsafe and I saw there were infiltrations onto the bend 4 wooden stand as well. If people were comfortable would they be looking to get better views elsewhere ? I thought Wimbledon had to shut those stands ? Shelbourne was a nightmare last year for getting about , I doubt anyone knows exactly how many went , 5000 was mentioned but where did the spivs outside get all those complimentaries from ? |

I didn't think it was anywhere near as busy this year - a good barometer of the size of the crowd is the size of the urine river by the first bend toilets; in the past it's been like The Nile this year it wasn't even a tributary!
There is no denying its a mess but beer queues were tolerable. The most annoying thing is the lack of books casuing the only real crowding I saw on Saturday. |

I hadn't missed since Hit The Lid in 1988 but after three trips for the early rounds this year I made the decision never to go to the track again unless I've got a runner. Bob Rowe hasn't missed a final for 50 years but couldn't bring himself to make the trip this year because he couldn't bear to see the place in it's current state.
There are so many reasons not to go but it's mainly because they are simply taking the pi$$ by spending zilch on the infrastructure year on year e.g. the televisions under the stand haven't been fit for purpose for at least 2 years. For the sake of a couple of grand they would rather cause everyone to curse and scramble up the stairs to watch a replay. I get the impression that this year was the last time the Derby will be held there. It's long odds on that the site is going for Galliard Homes development and there seems to be a general resignation about it. If the planners drag their feet we may get another year. Otherwise it'll be Hall Green, which is altogether a better track anyway, except for the second bend. |

aint been for 6 years its a sh1t hole we all know but we must keep it as a greyhound stadium but it wont happen the place will go its a long slow painful death

Agree with most of that and officially 500 more this year than last.
It felt like the busiest/most atmospheric since moved sides but maybe flattered because everyone was outside because of the weather. There were decent sized crowds at first, 4th bends and along the straight - were you cant see a thing! Also, the place has emptied fast after the derby in previous years but the vast majority appeared to stay this year to create a good feel/noise all through the card. |

 it was so packed at SPK the night slip robert won the derby, almost saved me a packet as i only just made the boards to bet cabra buck. WOnt go to the derby again, was way too crowded and unsafe for dwarfs. Night of stars a little bit more enjoyable experience. wimbledon tho... what a dump in comparison. |
