The trend has certainly been bucked at Shelbourne Park this week where the full 36 entries for the Dandelion Bar & Nightclub Easter Cup had been achieved almost two days prior to the draw which is due to be made at 11am tomorrow.
Entries will close this evening but yesterday evening the number of entries had already topped the 41 mark and raised the possibility of the 550 yards classic being run as a 42 or 48 dog competition.
What is even more impressive is the quality of the entry which is headed by the reigning ****.com Irish Derby winner Laughil Blake. Interestingly, he will be joined in the line -up by litter brother Laughil Bolt and younger half brother Laughil Duke both of whom impressed in a trial and in a race victory respectively on Saturday night.
Droopys Nidge leads the opposition to the Derby champion but Sidarian Blaze, Skywalker Farloe and company will make this a really red-hot competition.
Got Blake and Blitz for the English Derby, so hope they both go well and end up coming over. Nidge and Vulturi would prefer a bit further and not sure Mick will stand up to the racing, Farloe already proved he doesnt. Maverik is fancied but Pennys seems a shade below best. Quite like the Foxtrot dog, Gaytime the one with scope and Frampton the type to get through a round or two
Good luck!

He has only had 2 sprint trials around Cork since the Night Of Stars, that night he ran a screamer only getting picked up over 600y (as far as he wants) by Droopys Ward and probably would have won had he not been dragged wide off the last by Borneo, a few runs before that he won the Derby Consolation Final

Yeah, Laughil Blake impressive. Doesnt seem quite as wide off the last bend as i used to remember. About half second quicker than other two winners so far Jackal Frampton and Deanridge Pennys, who showed an unhealthy interest in the T5 dog after the line

Pleased with my Derby dog Sidarian Blaze. Sprinted miles clear and won cosily. Droopys Nidge made giant strides from three-quarters and drew clear after the line

Been looking at some outsiders for each-way purposes. Think 33/1 Ballyana Foxtrot a bit dismissive for a dog of his ability. Okay, didnt shine when needing comeback run first round but got some top class form including 29.39 and 29.59 wins round here and could come on Looked at speedy 33/1 Crackling Jack but in same 2nd rd ht as Foxtrot and already got a small interest Gaytime Hawk in there too, so undecided Pair still considering 25/1 Coran Sky and 40/1 Highview Apollo, clash in another heat also. Sky has a recent verdict over Apollo and chased home Laughil Blake in good style first round but swaying towards the all-round pace of Apollo at the prices, despite awkward draw Saturday
Good luck!

4/5 Laughil Blake shows he faces a strong test against Sidarian Blaze and Slippery Fred but should still lead up and not be caught
Deanridge Pennys withdrawn

Stevie has a great draw on the fence with Oakvale Rumble and Painstown Chief on his outside both whom he will lead if coming away, 10/3 is too big
Blake should be a lot shorter than the 4/5 they where going, both Blaze and Fred are going to have some job clearing Service Station early and sure what does it really matter, even if they do Blake has only Jackal Frampton to clear which he will easy and lead all
Nidge needs to be near knocked over to be beaten tonight, it's a poor heat (could see him going close to the clock tonight if leading as i think he will)

Not sure Blake so certain to make all either. Has missed a beat at the start before but got searing early to lead up. If he misses, will have a race on his hands against Blaze and Fred

Not Easter Cup, only graded, but Skywalker Farloe has really gone at the game, although we all knew that a long time ago. Wouldn't surprise me if he's in pain racing, obviously not right. Shouldn't even be lining up, imo

There was encouraging news from the Laughil Blake camp yesterday when veterinary examination revealed that the dog only has a small problem and will be sidelined for three weeks.
A relieved trainer Michael O’Donovan confirmed that the dog had been “fully checked and he should be out of about for only three weeks. The good news is that he will make a full recovery”.
No plans have yet been made as to his future schedule.
was clear as day he wasn't right

I think Paradise Maverick at 12/1 E/W with P.P. is a good bet, should quilify from the 5 dog heat, Nidge is the the best dog left but could find a lot of trouble in the other heat,..Good call on Blake on your 7th of march post P.f...Glad to hear we will see him again[he did a few of us a big favour last year]

As said, no real vested interest in Easter Cup, other than Derby antepost but Blake injured (hopefully make a speedy recovery), so would like Sidarian Blaze to do very well. Just small bet 33/1 Gaytime Hawk, gave Coran Sky a mention at 25/1 too and saved Slippery Fred. Nidge isnt likely to go with the early-birds. Big threat to all and sundry if getting a run though. Therein lies his chance. Should be a good final. Interesting card and will be keeping an eye on Tynwald Bish, Highview Apollo and Kisses For Cloda
Good luck!

Anybody else noticed the Shelbourne racecard now??
Distance 550y / 503m - but then the interesting part is underneath Act 549.1y
That was never on the racecard before, i have last weeks in front of me as well and it does not have that on it, you wouldn't be too impressed if you lost a big stake a SH over 550y rocketing home

Think many tracks not spot on and estimated distances. Even happened years ago when i remember Belle Vue being re-measured. The original distance was some way out. They used to race over 465m and 645m. Not sure how it works, but is it measured around the rails? Obviously, wide dogs will run further anyway

Final tonight, but not much said since semis where there was an epic tussle between Sidarian Blaze and Slippery Fred. Not surprisingly, the books not finding it easy to separate the pair. As said several times, backed Fred but would be happy to see Blaze win for English Derby antepost interests. Bidding to spring a surprise is Gaytime Hawk on whom I've an interest at 33/1
Sticking with Tynwald Bish in the sprint (could succeed with a better break) and think Quick Jack ought to go well. Eliminated from their recent respective competitions but should be a good buckle between Crackling Jack and Beaming Bucko, with Crackling just getting the nod, imo. Last race well worth waiting for with back-to-form Redwood Mick taking on the equally smart Paradise Maverik. Even Miss Wales' protagonist Riverside Pat chances, faster than both Easter Cup semi winners last week
Good luck!

He gave Fred a cold down the back ! Fred moved off that rail down the back race
Fred with that early more of Wimbo dog than blaze IMO Leave blaze in Ireland for the Irish IMO Champion stakes

not taken much for fred, blaze was smashed last night after winning. And has been been with out sidarian dogs all at the same time??
Had blaze a massive winner last year when he got eliminated. (thought he was fairly unlucky when going out) and since won 2 big comps now and second in another. Hope he comes over, looks proper comp dog to me.
CORAL offered me 2quid for blaze at 40/1.

Why would Wimbo ruin him Chopper. Went last year and he's obviously fine now. Just think he was a bit unlucky. Do you just mean why swop to the English air and all the travelling when he's doing so well in Ireland. Good point but Quarter Mill prizes dont come along every day. Why turn your nose up at a tilt if youve got a dog good enough to compete?
