Oxford appeal decision will be before Christmas

By Phil Donaldson 5:24PM 8 DEC 2014

THE judicial review hearing into former GRA track Oxford’s Heritage status took place on Monday at London’s Royal Courts of Justice.

The status, granted to the site by Oxford City Council, has effectively created a huge hurdle for owners Galliard Homes in their quest to redevelop the land for housing, and was formally challenged by the developers yesterday. The council has also previously rejected a planning submission by Galliards for the Cowley Lane site.

Former leading Oxford on-course bookmaker Richard Dunn was part of a large presence of pro-greyhound supporters to attend the hearing.

He said: “There was a good turnout of Oxford people – the public gallery wasn’t very large but we certainly filled it. The judge seemed very fair and impartial and asked plenty of questions of both sets of barristers.”

Dunn, also a key member of the Save Oxford Stadium group, added: “Overall I’d say we’ve left London feeling more positive than not. We’ve been told a decision will be made in the next seven to 14 days and certainly before Christmas, so now it’s a case of hoping things go the way of the council.”
