I don't know much about greyhounds, but I'm trying to learn, and I can't find anywhere explaining what the race grades mean exactly? I've got the basics I think: OR = Open Race (any dogs can enter??, but basically attracts the best dogs??), A-number = "normal" graded races, HC = handicap (dogs start at different places).
But what about all the others? S, B, P etc.
Can anyone recommend a guide to what they all mean and how you should approach betting on the different types?
"s" races are 6 bend races, "p" are puppy only races and "b" are generally 4 bend races that are of a shorter distance than the normal "a" 4 bend races, hope this helps

Why be an @rse about it Irish... Yes you can study on the internet, but it's always better in my opinion to ask someone. We all have to start somewhere.

Also the numbers after the letters ie A1 denote the class of race in England A1 is top grade and about A11 bottom grade as a general rule in my opinion the best way to bet is only back dogs u have seen run and for a start concentrate on one track and get to know the dogs as graded runners tend to run once a week and most r very consistent given a clear run most tracks early pace is a big bonus where is ur local track ?

Sorry irishone - you are right that was rude of me not to thank people - how do I find my old posts? I was trying to find that, but can't figure out how you see what you posted ages ago?
Anyway, the link you sent seems to refer to Irish racing, and only talks about the A grades, which I was sort of ok with. It was the other letters that were confusing me. Its very hard to google effectively for letters like this, and searching for grades etc only seems to throw up the common ones (although I'll concede after asking that I did find somewhere explaining P = Puppy).
Thanks noitsnotme for your explanation, I couldn't find "b" anywhere. Betfair has also had races labelled D - any idea what that is?
nb1, thanks for the tips - so you suggest there is a big advantage being at the stadium as opposed to seeing it on TV? I must admit the only times I've been at the stadium I've treated things just as a night out, so probably not paid as much attention as I should.

Thanks! I'm guessing the numbers for S and D don't match up with the numbers for A. The 11:42 d1 at hove only has two dog with A races in it's form, and these were 6-7 and 3. Surely the dog that has run A3 very much outclasses the A6 one? (It's seems quicker looking at times too).

T is a trial, which helps to grade the dogs initially or after they have been injured or off the track for some reason.
The dog with A3 form is quicker over a standard four bend trip, but perhaps the dog that is only A6 class over four bends is one with early pace, but does not stay the full distance. This dog might be of a similar standard to the A3 dog in a sprint race. At least the grader will be hoping so, and presumably has some reason to grade them in the same sprint race. Of course, the fun, and the difficulty, is in working these things out before the dogs run!
