7.58 Demesne Tornado shoots out on a piece of elastic sometimes, as seen when beating Farloe Barracuda recently. Beaten since but no danger if wearing best trapping boots.

8.14 Trappy affair. Stepaside Bigjak has bad draw but slow starter immediately on his left may give him a chance. Early pace in T2 Shelbourne Abi and T5 Russanda Rodge but hopeful Bigjak gets a run. Said slow starter Vanjohn T3 will be staying on well.

8.31 Hot race but sticking with smart looking puppy Candlelight King. He should confirm recent form with Bansha Mo and Sawpit Sensation may needs another run or two before approaching best. Word for Glanpadden Post, plenty of pace this chap, when things click.

Good luck!

Our own Sparta Brod makes his open race debut tonight in the 7:43, Division 2 of the 500M . He went unbeaten to the final of the Kasko Open Novice Stake at Thurles last October but picked up an injury on the big day and has struggled to regain the form he showed in that competition.

He has posted a few decent trials including 16.07 here (twice) and 16.03 at Coventry but his 29.37 (4.32 sectional) last week was particularly encouraging.

The main opposition tonight appears to be Spencer Mavrias's Too Oldto Dream who has an extraordinary 7 from 11 strike rate in opens at Sittingbourne but has never won away from there and Mike Hurst's North Eastern raider Hillcroft Joe who has some scintillating form at Shelbourne last year with numerous ratings over 110 and a best time of 28.59 in November.

We're hoping to lead from the coffin box and it will then be a case of catch us if you can. There is a fair bit of stamina on the dam's side of his pedigree so we expect him to stay in time but he will definitely be short of a run.

In any event I'm rather glad we're not in Division One!

Hillcroft Joe was capable of some very good runs in Ireland but if he did not lead you could write him off.

No idea how his trials at Pelaw Grange measure up against this field though.

The longer the run to the bend the better for him.

Sparta Brod 2nd. Missed the Demesne Tornado race, too, but 2nd also.

Saw Stepaside Bigjak flash out from T4, seize the inside and won by a country mile.

Candlelight King maintained his progress, always leading a high class field, including Sawpit Sensation and Bansha Mo. Glenpadden Post made rapid ground on the winner back straight, got within a length turning for home, but no more gains after that
