Having completed their three-year term as sponsors of the Irish Derby last September, bookmaking firm Ladbrokes have resumed their previous sponsorship of the Ladbrokes 600 which is due to commence at Shelbourne Park next week.

The 36 dog event will have a winner’s prize of €20,000 out of a total prize fund of €36,000. Ladbrokes previously sponsored the 600 from 2003 to 2009 prior to moving over as Derby sponsors. Their return to the 600 is in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the first running of this great competition.

It was originally run back in 1964 when it was the first major event sponsored in Ireland. It was known as the Guinness 600 for many years and became one of the prime events in the greyhound calendar. The first winner was Cranog Bet and the roll of honour is chock full of tracking legends.

A further extension of the Ladbrokes sponsorship is that all four rounds of the competition will be shown live in the Ladbrokes offices countrywide.

IGB CEO Adrian Neilan warmly welcomed Ladbrokes’ return to the competition as he said:

"Given Ladbrokes long association with the 600 event, we are delighted that they have chosen once again to sponsor this classic event.  Ladbrokes can now boast 10 years continuous sponsorship with Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium demonstrating their continued commitment to the Irish Greyhound Racing Industry. This will no doubt produce some fantastic racing over the 4 week period in April and May and we look forward to celebrating the victorious winner on the final night."

Speaking on behalf of Ladbrokes, Jackie Murphy, Head of Operations, said: “Ladbrokes has a great heritage with greyhound racing and in fact introduced extended opening hours to facilitate greyhound betting back in the sixties. We’re pleased to still be assisting the promotion of the sport which will now see  all four nights of the Ladbrokes 600 series broadcast live throughout our Irish estate. It’s hard to believe we’ve now had a decade long association with Shelbourne Park but times flies when you’re having fun and it’s always a pleasure to work with Ireland’s premier track”.

Since Ladbrokes sponsored the 600 last in 2009 it has been supported by Hegarty Bookmakers and then last year Betfair took over. Entries for the event will close on Tuesday at noon.

I seriously doubt it DV, they said they could not throw a few quid at the gold competition on the golf forum as they're laying people off,

Tempted to go in tonight, Lazarus and Ballotelli running as well, weather is bogey but the sun has just come out so may head in that way

Volcano showed huge potential last night.

Blocked a few times but showed both pace and battling qualities.

She will not be cheap.

Just on Betfair, they are just clearing out dead wood, the correct structure of management is now in place. Not sure if they will be the new sponsors or not.

My angle of playing North Bound because of the draw is being derailed a bit.

First he is asleep each night in the boxes and the insides are dropping quickly after Hot Pursuit last week. It really is being gift wrapped for Vic but I would prefer a few quid on Buck at this stage. Hillcroft going to pose North Bound problems unless latter can finally trap.

It's a pity Raggletaggle Rio didn't get that 3rd spot last week Plain

I can't make up my mind whether the NR is good or bad for Vic, it's good the fact he has nothing on his immediate inside but it also is good for Cabra Buck who will move off so there will be nothing in his way, if he can smash again and lead Vic up and North Bound can clear Hillcroft Champ to the corner we're in business. We better nail the e/w part at least, just trap PLEASE!!!

Paddy Corrigan is a sound man but I was cheering Raggletaggle up the straight last week.

He seems to run wider as the race goes on and is more middle to the first? If North Bound traps I think he wins it as Vic is not showing blinding pace and NB has run very well to keep qualifying. I am expecting something to trip us up though just like a broken nail ruined my 100/1 each way on his litter brother in the Derby last year!

I see Fridays Twirl takes on some really promising bitches in the 3rd race. I recommended her to some lads that want some fun with a dog/bitch around Romford. Would be ideal for that circuit over 400m as she does not see out the trip fully around Shelbourne and would not be good enough for the top sprints. Lughill Sandra would be ok value at 3/1 in that race.

Dear Pa is giving the Shelbourne bends another go. He would not carry my money,

Sparta M done a pre race trial on Saturday, think it was 28.76 he clocked. He seemed to come up with the lids and he didn't run the first two bends that well. He will be opposable at short odds in this stake, the lack of top quality dogs in opposition is a concern

CAMAS UNLIKELY TO RACE AGAIN

16/04/2013
Last year’s Irish Derby finalist Camas is unlikely to run again after sustaining a serious injury in a trial last week.
Trainer Owen McKenna reports that Camas tore a gracilis muscle in a trial last week. “I was getting him ready for a race at Shelbourne on Saturday night and the owner Larry O’Rourke wanted to go for the English Derby with the dog. Now I doubt if he will ever race again”.
Camas, a son of Head Bound and Accelerate, commenced his career by winning the Festival Unraced Stake at Clonmel and he was a finalist in the Red Mills Produce Stakes at the same track. He won the Champion Plate at Shelbourne and also reached this year’s SIS Live Gold Cup final for which he started an evens favourite.

Sparta Maestro @ 4/1 - It's simply way too big in my opinion. This dog is an absolute monster over this trip, the best i've ever seen in my opinion including Late Late Show, College Causeway, Tyrur Ted, Kingo, Winetavern Oscar etc.........., he is 5 for 5 over the trip doing the clock twice and will take an unbelievable amount of beating. There are excuses for what appeared a poor enough trial last week so it doesn't worry me at all and i make him a real good bet.

Any wide seed to win @ 11/10 - Who in gods name priced that??? They should be sacked Laugh Sparta Maestro 4/1, North Bound 4/1, Slip The Genie 8/1, Gizmo Classic 12/1, Oneco Cool 16/1, Gizmo Titan 25/1, Uncle Eoin 33/1 and they come up with 11/10 PMSL LaughLaugh
