Basically a chaser who is sure to get involved at some stage no matter what the grade. |

"sure to get involved at some stage" sets my alarm bells ringing. Also "always gives 100%" seems to appear on plenty of ravers.

OK, no worries. 1971 was a bit before my time anyway. I saw all the Gold Collar finals from 1975 til Catford closed. What a depressing day that was for the Adenmore Road faithful

Getting back to the original subject fellas, there have been some good suggestions to date but for those contributors who suggested accurate but blunt descriptions, remember the name of the game here is to come up with a phrase that does not contain words which could upset owners and connections, so screw, rogue, dodge etc are out.
Some of those proposed so far give a good idea of the context in which the description would be used such as: "sure to get involved at some stage" for pre race analysis “has its own ideas” and “very game in defeat” for post race comments Winjas “unquestionable aptitude for the challenge” could be used both pre and post race by suggesting the greyhound has more interest in getting to dogs rather than the line as well as a positive suggestion that the greyhound in question is game and putting it all in. Keep them coming |

cant beat "facks about" for accuracy but I realise that might upset people

A clever dog, likes the chase, thinks about his races, doesnt always inspire confidence, headache for form students, has peaks and troughs, form comes and goes, changes like the weather, hoping not an anti-climax, may do level best. How many would you like?
|
|
By:
I think the idea is to come up with something original Woody. As mentioned by BBC there are hundreds of phrases which are descriptive but it would be good to come up with a single phrase which perfectly identifies a greyhounds attributes for both those in the delicate camp and those, like Premier, who are in the blood and sawdust camp.
As Miss Wales stated with the private eye example, when their readers hear or read tired and emotional they understand something that would be unknown to those outside the code. |

By:
I see, something novel other than cliches? Howabout, his best running isnt every race and sometimes stretches the rules, having considerations for other dogs around him, rather than only the hare
|
|
By:
That's the idea but probably needs to be punchy and short, like a cryptic crossword has a double meaning.

Never runs two races alike has always been a favourite of mine - although that's presumably as much a criticism of the trainer.
Has speed to burn could obviously sound like a compliment but on here we would all know what it really means. Knows where the winning line is is another reverse compliment. |
