Saturday afternoons at Harringay - Bonzo, Topothetide, Stormy Spirit, Paradise Spectre, Sindy's Flame amongst others..Speaking of Haymaker Mack, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been at White City the night he did the clock in that consolation final. Will never forget the gasps from the terraces when the time was displayed on the electronic board...Happy memories

Apologies Noflapleft, but it was nagging me so much I just had to do a bit of digging. Apparently, Scurlogue won at Harringay on 19th April 1985. The record that I uncovered doesn't, however, state whether it was a Saturday afternoon or not!!

noflaps - Scurlogue got beat at Harringay - it was in front at the second last bend a waited, Im pretty sure of that.
Slippy - Haymakermac's next race was at romford (on the Monday, if my memory serves me)following that night in a 575 and broke its hock when in front off the second bend

1983 Golden Jacket Final @ Harringay on a Saturday afternoon, (660 metres), in trap 2 is Haymaker Mac an 11/2 chance.
Just to put things into perspective, I was at White City the night Haymaker Mac broke the clock over 500 metres. Two things, as you can see he was a six bend dog, (almost), and when a strong dog leads early over a shorter trip you always get a fast time. Secondly, that night all the track records except the 962 metres trip were broken because they had shaved the turf track till it was virtually bare. The one record we expected that night to get broken more than any other was the 962 metres because the best marathon dog in the coutry at that time, "Sandy Lane" trained at Brighton by George Curtis, was absolutely flying. Unfortunately, he received a bad bump at the first bend, was virtually on the floor, got up and still managed to win 10 lengths but the bad bump had cost it the clock.

I was there that night as well TheMadGhost, we all done our brains on Game Ball.
Sandy Lane was a true legend of the sport. I'll never forget Haymaker doing the track record, A memory that will always stay with me.
I'd like to own a dog again, I just don't like Wimbledon anymore though.

I'm digging deep in the memory bank here, did Sandy Lane run around the same time as Westmead Adam? I've got vague memories of them running a marathon at Wimbledon together, Sandy Lane outstayed him on the run for home. Both great dogs. I'm guessing about 1986 ish.

Everyone doing their brains on Game Ball was probably an understatement. I went with someone who'd never been to the dogs before. They got the f/c for 50p. Another friend had backed a dog called Darkie Fli in an earlier round £5000/£700. Stuck the lot on Game Ball to win outright at 6/1.Not a happy bunny.

I can remember Westown Adam winning a 962 metre race at White City at big odds-on. The reason was that he had run a trial over 500 metres a week before the race and recorded 29.79secs. for 4 bends! Quite remarkable!
Incidentally, Decoy Lassie's dam, Tibby's Girl, was out of Tiberetta who was a tiny black bitch who was an open race sprinter trained at White City by Les Parry. One year she ran-up to Perth Pat, who was trained at Oxford by owner/breeder Jim Morgan, in the Oaks over 525 yards @ Harringay. This was in the early 1970's - more than 40 years ago!

It must be Westown Adam I'm thinking of. I was very young when I was going to the cheapside at Wimbledon (5 or 6!) so the memory is a bit shaky. Thanks chaps.
