I made him favourite but winning Thursday will probably ensure he is shorter than he should be, he usually is anyway.

I thought his draw was good, Callums Flash in 5 doesn't come away either and doesn't look the same dog that gave Sparta Maestro a cold down the back in the Puppy Derby. Mahogany Boy has pretty good pace up but is a bit shaky at boxes so Gilmore could turn handier than you'd expect here. Whatever doesn't lead between the top 2 doesn't win then and i find it hard to see Buzz leading them inside him.

I usually manage to get Gilmore right [don't ask me how, luck i'd say] and i thought he'd take an awful lot of beating tonight when i did the card.
Report 4 In A Row March 30, 2013 2:05 PM GMT
Is Gilmore allowed run? Its an A1 and his winning time Thursday night just puts him into Open grade.

Very impressed with VIC last night, very brave at the 1st bend, only bad luck will deprive him of outright victory, i agree with fattie about the first heat, but thats the luck of the draw.
Report Distant View March 31, 2013 1:01 PM BST
I don't see how Vic is ideally housed. If he comes out like he did last night then he is in real danger of being cut off by Hot Pursuit who is much better drawn and very likely to lead him.

Cannot believe how North Bound is trapping but he is still there (and gets all the wide seeds) and at least has 6. If he traps he wins this event now for me and the each way play is not just the priority now. However will he trap at any stage now?
Report Distant View March 31, 2013 1:09 PM BST
I must qualify that by saying that there is no question that he is on the right side of 2 and 3, but the presence of Hot Pursuit in 3 could be a real stumbling block if the latter can post 3.39 or so split as he could easily block the path of Vic.

Child, you'll be happy with 7/4 Vic if you rate it an evens chance. Any updates to Irish tipping competition? Not looked for a while.

Backed Vic again and not too concerned about him T1. If Pursuit leads him he'll follow him round. Experiencd and can track, imo. If they might level, think Vic may brush him aside. That's the plan anyway. Pursuit let me down for the double Saturday but that was a bad draw. Would have to be hopeful of 20/1 Adler going through with Impact not presently coming away.  Watching brief deffo North Bound, i'd say

Oh, there was no over-reaction to Vic's first round defeat, betting-wise. One or two slightly muffed noises on here led me to believe there might have been. Still a few people dont seem convinced. 8 lengths was flattering yes, but still the one they all got to beat, imo

Paul Hennessy had a second blow in a couple of days when he learned that a second of his star trackers would be on the sidelines for the next five to six weeks.
Hot Pursuit was ruled out of Saturday’s College Causeway/ Killahan Phanter Easter Cup semi-finals at Shelbourne.
He had expressed fears on Monday that the dog might not be right but declined to comment until he had been checked by a vet. The examination yesterday brought confirmation of his fears. “Hot Pursuit has jarred his wrist and will be on the sidelines for four to five weeks. There is no real rush with him as his next major event will be the Champion Stakes. It was also confirmed that Barefoot Allstar will miss the Scottish Derby. He has pulled a monkey muscle and so will be out of action for four to five weeks. However he should be ready to go to Wimbledon with Priceless Sky and Money Talks”.

KILLAHAN PHANTER PASSES AWAY
02/04/2013
Killahan Phanter, one of the fastest greyhounds in training in Ireland in recent years, has passed away suddenly at just seven years of age.
The McKenna family owned son of Droopys Kewell and Dianas Ranger died suddenly at the weekend at the kennels of Padraig Regan in County Kerry.
In a short but illustrious racing career, Killahan Phanter won his first eleven races on the trot. Known for his brilliant early pace, the Phanter won the €16,000 Moormac Developments Stake at Tralee and the Joe Dunne Memorial Puppy Stake at Shelbourne.
He was pipped on the line in the **** Champion Stakes and was a clear favourite for the Irish Derby until sustaining his career ending injury in the quarter final of the Irish Derby.

With no Hot Pursuit, should be a penalty kick for Vic to reach the final tonight. 4/1 looking very good now and got 20/1 Droopys Adler in the other semi. Did throw coppers at 25/1 Ashfield Impact, too, but was hoping for Ardfert Thunder really.

Elsewhere on the card, only two races i would be interested in, the opener and the finale. If in Dublin, would have been at Shelbourne Park early for Knockglass Billy. He was flanked by Droopys Jet and Raldazl Rioga in a race Night of Stars, Farloe Warhawk also in the mix and bowling merry along in front, would have won, imo, if hare hadnt stopped back straight. Creditable run last time at Limerick and fast enough to win over these two bends at the main expense of Holborn Mac.

The last race would be well worth waiting for and stout battler Abbeyville Tipp could prove value to upset Tyrur Sugar Ray. The latter would win at best but hit the deck last time and may not be fully fit.

The final draw is interesting, could be very messy

1 moves off
2 wants rails
3 is middle
4 is rails
5 is mid to wide [more wide]
6 is wide

If North Bound could come away you'd say he'd be the one but the way he is trapping it's debatable if he will clear Hillcroft Chamop.

Can Ballymac Vic outtrap Ashfield Impact to avoid him taking his ground and then can he lead up Cabra Buck inside of him.

Cabra Buck 11/2
Droopys Adler 14/1
Ballymac Vic 6/4
Ashfield Impact 7/1
Hillcroft Champ 12/1
North Bound 9/2

100%

Cabra Buck 4/1
Droopys Adler 10/1
Ballymac Vic 5/4
Ashfield Impact 11/2
Hillcroft Champ 9/1
North Bound 7/2

121%

That's how i've priced it.

Really can't see how Adler gets any sort of run early, added to that he turned 2nd in the 2nd round to Hillcroft Champ and could not beat him and turned 2nd to Ashfield Impact in the semi final and could not beat him, i'd be surprised if he could even turn 2nd here. Take away his round 1 victory over Cabra Buck where he caught his back legs down the back and would he be as short as 7s?

I would have had North Bound a good bit shorter if he wasn't walking from boxes, his faith will be known by the bend, if he clears Hillcroft Joe he has a massive chance and if he doesn't clear him he will really struggle and will be forced wide as well. Take away the last 3 weeks and you'd say he'd clear him no problem but what we've seen in this comp has left that up in the air.

Hillcroft Champ is not without a chance either if he can lead the outside and if there was some bunching on the inside. As i already said in round 2 Droopys Adler couldn't pick him up when plenty close enough and so was North Bound into the 3rd as well.

Ashfield Impact still didn't ping as he can in the semi finals but he was a lot better at boxes. However he will need that ping in the final if he is too clear both Ballymac Vic on his immediate inside and Cabra Buck in 1, he is capable but it is a tough ask.

Cabra Buck would be better away from the rail but the way he has been trapping and going up to the corner he has every chance of leading around. He will need to lead here but is probably drawn too, he would need to have a couple of lengths advantage over Vic into the back as Vic clearly showed he has the better middle in the semi final. Still sick about round 1, at the time i thought he would have been beaten but what he has done since suggests he may well have won, 6/1 what a bloody rick that was!!!!

That leaves us with Ballmac Vic, will he finally get that big prize his pace deserves? Despite having never been beaten from 1 in Shelbourne most would think he is better away from the inside as when he comes away from there he moves middle. The final depends on what he does at boxes, he pings as he can and he should win, he misses it as he also does at times and then he could be in big trouble, does what he did in the semis and he will struggle. Firstly he has to be good at boxes to make sure Ashfield Impact does not lead him up and then he needs to lead Cabra Buck up on his inside, if doing this it's hard to see him beaten. North Bound would be the only one with a chance of picking him up but personally i feel Vic would have better middle than him and build up enough of an advantage.

It does look a really good final but in reality it could be all over as they hit the first bend.

Yeah, could be trouble but hopefully not. Cabra Buck the most reliable starter but Ballymac Vic showed guts to force his way past that rival at three-quarters in semis and seldom have i seen him start so slowly, likely to break better in the decider.

On overall form, you would hope Vic can stay one step ahead of Ashfield Impact, Droopys Adler (nothing between that pair) and dont see any reason why North Bound should start coming away. Hillcroft Champ completes the line-up and bids to spring a surprise.

Got half the field but Vic the only one to do any damage. Thinking of adding Buck, so it would be all monies back on three savers, then

DROOPYS ADLER OUT OF EASTER CUP FINAL
12/04/2013
There will be just five runners in tomorrow’s final of the College Causeway/ Killahan Phanter Easter Cup at Shelbourne Park following the withdrawal of Droopys Adler due to a kidney infection.
Trainer John Linehan said that the dog “has been under pressure since the start of the week and we hoped it might clear up. However he has a kidney infection and it has totally flattened him. It is most unfortunate as it is hard enough to get into finals like this. We’ll leave him off for a while now and give him a few races in advance of the Champion Stakes”.

How much is Adler,s withdrawal likely to change the outcome of the race P.F.? your a much better judge then me in matters such as this.

It's a hard one, on the face of it you'd say it's a big help as he will have no dog on his immediate inside.

However it will be an even bigger help for Cabra Buck i'd say as he will look to move off from the inside and now there is nothing beside him to get in his way.

If Cabra Buck smashes and leads up Vic it's race on, then if North Bound could lead Hillcroft Champ [who i keep calling Hillcroft Joe] he has a massive chance. Nothing has really changed for Ashfield Impact as he still has the same problem of clearing both Ballymac Vic and Cabra Buck to the corner as he can't wun if he doesn't lead.

Maybe it's bad news for Hillcroft Champ, his chance was leading up North Bound which hasn't changed but really needed some crowding on the inside which i suppose is less likely now.

TX P.F ; i backed Hillcroft Champ on monday morning at 20/1 with PP, is it likely to be a rule 4 seeing as this is a final,?

I'm looking on the brightside, i have to get paid the e/w part of 1 of my bets now Laugh

North Bound 14s [e/w 1,2,3,4]
Ashfield Impact 25s [e/w 1,2,3,4]

no doubt i still won't be happy if one doesn't win and the other place Devil

Come on Vic! Not been my month so far but he'd make all the diffrence. Money back on comp if Adler or Impact win.

Thought Junior had a chance in opener but bad draw and dont know what Pa will do.

Sticking with Abbeyville in the last over Pilot

You might want to read some of the posts from yesterday on this thread Woody

Dare say, some threads very long to get through though. PF, sounds like the Irish assault on the Scottish Derby may not materialise. I know places are at a premium, but makes me wonder about the English Derby, when you see cards like tonight on a big night. Very good Easter Cup entry but shouldnt all those fallen by the wayside be in races tonight and will it be the same for the Champion Stakes?
Report woodmanchester April 13, 2013 10:29 AM BST
Oh i see, Adler non runner. Not too disappointed. Want Vic and aids his cause, imo
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y April 13, 2013 10:29 AM BST
Droopys Adler is not running Woody

We will have a right good team for the English Derby, don't worry about that Grin

He always had it in him, no idea why he was constantly walking out for the last 3 weeks but he is a right good dog
Report Swayne April 14, 2013 12:25 PM BST
I think he is most likely to do Causeways clock followed by Vic and TSR. On a lightning night. Smashing dog.
& to think the owner had a couple of dogs from the (amazing) litter up for sale on greyhound data last July, North Bound with an asking price of €13k, and look what's he's done since.Love but he's glad he got no decent offers
Report woodmanchester April 15, 2013 9:58 AM BST
Congrats seem to be in order for our Irish expert PF, sure he said he backed it somewhere Wink and Distant View on, too, i believe. Well done to North Bound and connections, he got it right when it mattered

You'd have to wonder at this stage will Ballymac Vic ever get it right when it really matters, missed the kick in both the semis and final which he always seems to do at the wrong time.
Report Swayne April 15, 2013 2:17 PM BST
fair point, but the dog has come back in first comp of the season and finished 2nd. Not bad. And losing to a flying North Bound.
