Yup. I reckon you need a big bank for kelly but for someone who has a price in their head I'd have thought some modified kelyy would be good.

it has its merits RC but is flawed imo when applied to real life betting

Out of interest Wonders if you didnt fancy it why bet it?Im guessing it was to do with price/value but if that was the case then why diminish your stake?

Not having a go,im genuinelly interested.

By the way i agree.Kelly suites some types of betting but for example betting IR you dont exactly have time to calculate the exact value of every bet etc.

Isn't it part of the psychology of betting that big prices put people off ?
By:
RacingCert
When: 11 Mar 13 12:17
I do think it takes either strength of character or stupidity not to be influenced

if i gave a mate ashort price tip he has a score on it if its a 33-1 shot a fiverCrywhy

its a lower variance approach beebs, not put off by big prices but losing runs kill most people if they are just betting long prices, old favourite longshot bias is an outdated argument imo since betfair came along

No RC,i dissagree. What it takes not to be influinced is hard facts and if you do something long enough and realise that if you dont let your stake be affected by price you will win more longterm then it becomes easy not to let your stake be influinced.
Obviously for those who lose longterm then this is irrelevant.

Yes RC.The one regret i have up until now is the inability to work excel and do spreadsheets because the amount i have learned simply by documenting things and a piece of paper is amazing. Its that bad that i have even considered doing a course to learn excel.Cry

you are right bookie, that is 1 of the pitfalls of kelly

re the horse, imo the jockey is the best kid to come through northern jumps racing since I've been into racing *cough*Laugh going back to the 90s, I follow the northern stuff quite closely and it is an opinion based on both visual impression and a number of stats I have compiled which won't be put on here but I would discuss in brief via PM if you were that interested

in a word he is brilliant and almost everything ridden by him is overpriced imo, I bet the first winner strongly but it was pretty obvious tbh, lumping on 28/1 shots isn't my thing at all but nor is passing up on the bet either

horse got a lovely ride, as did all his 5 winners last week tbh
