Bags reveal dates for the early Sky  meetings

By jim cremin racingpost.com 30-Jan-2013

BAGS has produced the first working schedule of events to be shown live on Sky Sports. Greyhound racing returns to the station on Tuesday March 19 with a star double header from Wimbledon featuring the Racing Post Juvenile and the as yet unsponsored Springbok final for novice hurdlers.
Sky programmes are expected to run from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, with the feature event at 9.15pm. This will allow races to also be broadcast by SIS into betting shops, further raising the sport’s profile.

Other definite news from Bags was the last four rounds of the William Hill Derby, ie from Saturday June 15 - the third round onwards - will also be shown live on Sky.  With fewer total slots available, just 22 compared with 35 last year, priority was offered to Shawfield and the Scottish Derby final, but because the particular weekend slot was not available due to other commitments at Sky, Shawfield decided against staging its showpiece on a Tuesday.

The Trainers' Championship, for which a sponsor is also being sought, is to be at Yarmouth on Wednesday March 27.

Full story and reaction in the Wednesday January 30 Racing Post.

The working list:

Tuesday March 19 Wimbledon, Racing Post Juvenile, Springbok final
Wednesday March 27 Yarmouth Trainers’ Championship
Wednesday April 17 Swindon TV Trophy
Tuesday May 7 Sheffield Three Steps To Victory
Tuesday May 14 Hove Coral Regency
Saturday June 15 Wimbledon William Hill Derby third round
Tuesday June 18 Wimbledon  William Hill Derby quarter finals
Saturday June 22 Wimbledon William Hill Derby semis
Saturday June 29 Wimbledon William Hill Derby FINAL
Thursday July 18 Sunderland William Hill Festival finals
Tuesday July 30 Nottingham Betfred Select Stakes

Newbomb won't be back by the looks of things, for all his gaffs and his master trainer this and master trainer that i think i might actually miss him Shocked

He has been the main player in some of the best moments i've seen on the programme, the best by a mile being his grilling of Tipp-Ex Laugh that was absolutely beautiful.

I haven't seen any other presenter grill a bookies rep over knockbacks

Looks like we could be missing on Sky the Henlow Puppy Derby, the Swindon Arc, the Monmore Puppy Derby, the Kinsley Gymcrack and the Drumbo Park Northern Irish Derby on the schedule so far announced?

Great for it to be back. It seems like we'll have at least one more Derby at Wimbledon.

I wish they got rid of most of them bar Jonathon. Particularly bob bon, Gary, Dave and Errol. At least we should have fewer presenters/pundits etc. The end of hearing about all of their naps can't come soon enough for me. Also they could really do with losing the "Greyhound has been cut from 85/40 to 2/1" (meaningless cuts and has been 9/4 all day with another firm)

Laugh i sure do, Hobbsy may not be too bad as a main presenter actually but i'd rather somebody who would speak their own mind and not be afraid to say things as they actually see them. That would probably lose them their job though

Anybody else notice the night Lee Giftkins was on RPGTV and was not towing the company line and saying something they didn't like [re Ireland and how racing was going in England] and JK and Errol [i think it was] cut him off

as for my last post i think i need to use spellcheck Blush

Like i said Woody on the other thread. The non BAGS tracks get shafted again and edge closer towards closure. You missed out the Scottish Derby in your list and the Doncaster St Ledger and loads more. The only thing that was achieved by giving the product away for free(paying Sky to show it) was it helped the bookies get a bigger grip of the sport.

Yes Middleman but read they was going to accomodate the Scottish Derby if re-scheduled? As for the Donny Leger etc, that's later in the year. Didnt Kinsley used to be BAGS anyway? So, why drop the Gymcrack? And, Monmore is BAGS but nothing for Puppy Derby?

Yes Woody they wanted the track to move the final from a saturday to a tuesday but it would have cost the track money so they refused.

Suppose the Donny Leger could be in jeopardy altogether. No TV, so finding a sponsor could be difficult. Been making the annual trek to Stainforth for years, too

I think Hobbsy is very good on Sky, but not v good on RPTV. The Sky format suits his style much more imo.
The Duck is far and away the best of the Post lads on RPTV imo

I thought Lee Giftkins was good on RPTV last week. He's a proper dog man.
