Surprised nobody seems to have started a thread with the first round heats tonight.

Nothing original but more than hopeful with 9/2 Smiler Jack antepost. He's prolific round here, won the Champion Stakes and hard to fault.

That's more than can be said of some main market rivals, imo. Westmead Maldini was superb last year but getting on nowadays. He crashed out of the Champion Stakes in the semis and with little in it betting-wise, had to go with Smiler.

Blonde Fletch connections may soon be thinking about retirement and Mark My Words didnt look at home the only time he raced round here.

Of big outsiders, could be worth a few pennies 25/1 Romeo Patriot and 40/1 Bubbly Rossie, both each-way.

Good luck!

why doc,are you not worried about a frosty rails track tonight?( i am and would be interested to hear a locals opinion)
Report dr . atkins November 30, 2012 1:33 PM GMT
should ad its a risky thing to do at romford when it gets cold we all know it goes rails, need a weather report for the next mth,and since they have done the drainage the surface needs watering a lot so if it gets very cold they cant water
Report patrick starr November 30, 2012 1:36 PM GMT
ahhhh i see,you have the same fears as me,cheers doc.

Think i'm just gonna leave the earlies and have a watch for first bit of card...
Report dr . atkins November 30, 2012 1:38 PM GMT
they were still watering when we got all that rain last week, patrick starr your right i am worried about the going but to be drawn trap 1 575 on a level track is not great these days at romford
Report dr . atkins November 30, 2012 1:41 PM GMT
if i had a dog in the 575 final would want it drawn 3.4.6 on level going

for sure doc, yesterday seemed fine (just looking at results) but with the temp drop from afternoon to night time i deffo have the going on my mind for tonight.

Just so you know what not to back, front runners may have an advantage and with WM not running particularly well, had one bet on English at 3-1 to smash from 3 and go clear.

there you are. GL
Report dr . atkins November 30, 2012 1:59 PM GMT
yes it as been a little bias to rails on the night meetings, but drainage is working to well, i would say they would have put water on the track tonight and will put water on the track if not to cold during the meeting aswel if they think the track needs it

8.34 ...will lay blonde fletch if anywhere near evens at the off, imo it struggle to clear mountjoy orion early and i fancy diesel malc to lead down the middle and off the 2nd bend
taken the 5/1 with corals and 9/2 laddies

8.50...will be laying smiler jack later, backed parkwest leo at 20/1 (hills)
can see 1 holding up smiler jack at the first and taking a chance on leo to clear all and hold on.

9.24 very trciky race with ding hero and bubbly ebony going for the first bend lead, could be trouble early so i've backed carden twilight at 8/1 to nip round and cause an upset.

best bet of the card is stress force in the 9.56, taken the 7/2
not much early in the race and can see it leading and winning Wink

good luck all, cracking racing tonight.

Planning at 5/2 looks a good bet to me from a favourable draw.

Rockview Sail at 5s is too big imo with Maldini out of form and Sail loves it round there even though it got KOd lto.

Like Stress Force at 7/2 aswell.Bit of a cheat at times imo and those types usually excel round a tight circuit like Romford.

3 x singles

3 x double

1 x treble.

The prices in the final look wrong to me, and seem to be based on times only rather than the way the race will/may be run.. Well, actually think one of them is very wrong, making another look huge. Lets get on.

I cannot see why Maldini is trading as big as he is. Absolutely do not like Planning and think he is woefully short. He has made his races by an absolute ping and also has been helped by the going. Had miles on Maldini last time out and the runner-up lost an estimated 8 lengths in running after severe grief early. I expect the early moves to come from at least 3 of these, and cannot see Planning as good enough to get far away from them to win. Add Wallis' recent sickness and at sub 2-1 he can't be a bet, win or lose.

Obviously if Jack cracks game over, but it's no cert and I want that at 6-4. EArly around him and the worry I'd have is MO smashing and making it awkward for a few of these. He just kids in front and may hold them up long enough.

I just thought from a draw that should keep him out of trouble, Maldini can certainly tuck himself out of trouble early and easily make up the 3-4 lengths he has to find on recent running. He does all his best in finals and I really cannot see how he isn't around 3-1.

Simply, if anything other than Jack leads off the bend, I'd expect him to pick them up. Can't get enough on at 9-2 so had a bit there and at 4-1. Its just simply far too big for a dog with his CV.

interesting to read DML thoughts. imo the class of the race is Jack and Maldini, but looking at the race make up with 5 bang railers and plenty of QAw's for all except Maldini, and with Simon out of 5 beating Jack from 3 to bend last time and this time right alongside him outside and heading rails I'm thinking the race may not be dis-similar to Coronation Cup Final in Jan when Rathglass Hero (@16/1) got clear and 4 of them were badly baulked or KO.. Not sure Smiler Jack would have won the Champion Stakes if he'd not been in T1 and Ko'd Be Real in T3, and must be reasonable chance Brave the Times will be up inside Jack at the bend. DML comment re kennel sickness is valid, but Wallis will be focussing on the dog in kennel in £10k final,Planning is improving rapidly out of traps, bend position, sectionals and overall times. I reckon another 35.29 or near would win the final, and you'd think he'd have acres of space outwide, which others will not
Report DONEMYLOT December 11, 2012 3:38 PM GMT
Super card, especially like the 10-bender, always a great race and should be. Will be nice to know if PP has actually come right somehow else I think the winner is pretty obvious and likely to be short.

As for the final, Swayne, MW may well get Planning right and whilst I can't argue against his victories, they were with help in my view. The last time (as my Oirish friends say) was particularly obvious and not sure the draw, good as it is, is enough to make him so short. Given dry conditions, that will surely be agin him too. I thought Maldini trapped far better from red a number of times and does tend to get it right in finals. I have a feeling he will be 3rd or 4th off the second corner and with 5 pinging and 4 showing some nice early, hmm who know? All about price really. Perhaps a lay of SJ and Planning will do, no tears if one of them wins and valid reasons for a result
