The UK’s winningmost sprinter Fernhill Jess is an entry for the Larry Dunne Night of Stars 350 at Shelbourne on Saturday night.

The Dave Allen trained bitch has won 21 open races this year but the trainer is prepared to forego a crack at the National Sprint at Nottingham if she can get into the big Shelbourne race.

He told the Racing Post “I’ve entered Jess for the Night of Stars, having thought long and hard about it. I cannot resist taking her out there as I think it’s the only chance I will ever get to take part in such a prestigious evening of racing”.

It won’t be easy to claim a place in the Night of Stars sprint as there is a big number of leading Irish contenders!

As i posted on greyhoundscene i'm not sure she should get in if these are entered:

Cambushmore - Bar One Sprint winner
Bulmers Baby - Peggy Kelly winner
Big Casino - flying around Shelbourne
Uncle Chico - Fair Warrior winner
Leeview Dave - flying around Cork / Youghal
Barefoot Allstar - dead heated Saturday night
Ballyhill Sub - 21.08 Dlk 18.65, 18.55 Spk

We actually have some really good sprinters over here now. Cambushmore is entered, surely Bulmers Baby, Barefoot Allstar and Ballyhill Sub will be entered seen as they ran in that stake last week and Big Casino had been flying around shelbourne so he will surely be entered. I'd imagine Leeview Dave will be entered too the form he has been in. Uncle Chico has been missing a while so maybe he won't be in?

For once i'm really looking forward to a sprint race, usually take no interest in them (punting wise anyway) but this has the makings of an unreal race.

And personally i think she would have had a massive chance in the Oaks and that's where i'd have been going with her

1st time so if it all goes well i'd imagine and hope that it will become a yearly fixture.

Best of luck to your missus and the baby, hope everything goes well.

The thing that may go against her is that she didn't even have a trial, you'd probably get away with it in some of the races but this could be a very hot race and a good trial could have really boosted her case. Maybe her good record in England will be enough to get her in but a trial would have helped.

She'll get in anyway imo, just for the added prestige of being a British runner, you Irish cant get enough of us Brits.

I agree PS in that she will get in, be interesting to see what Irish trained are left out though if they're all entered, may be some unhappy people

If she does run wont be easy after the travelling and round an unfamiliar track. She would need to ping or will be in bother would imagine. Very interesting though, exciting and think i'd have to fly the flag with a few bob on her

Good luck Addy. Sure everything will be fine. Mate on the greyhounds has become a dad twice over past couple of years and i thought his days of racing were numbered but his missus very understanding and he still very much keeps his eye in. Hope it's a similar case for you
