Had my first bet on Eden Star for next year's Derby. If he does a fast calc time in the opener, not on Sky TV, at Belle Vue tonight, the 25/1 is likely to go.
I know it was early days, but count myself unlucky not to have had a good chance to win the biggest bet of my life when Eden was withdrawn from the Derby after beating Ruthless Man impressively, over 4 lengths, with Droopys Jet and Farloe Ironman behind in the opening round.
Not raced since and been patiently brought along by his trainer, but trials suggest he's ready to run and boy, can he run!
Apart from two shock, narrow defeats, clear excuses, Eden would have been unbeaten in 13 races.
This time last year, he was winning tonight's highlight, The Laurels, at odds of 4/9 and i just hope he stays sound now, as supremely fast dogs are sometimes prone to injury

Do you not think he is awful value? The dog is having his 3rd race, yes 3rd race of the year tonight on November 13th and you're happy to bet him at 25/1 for the Greyhound Derby which is still 6-7 months away.
You just need a bit of faith sometimes. Betting too early has always been my downfall but when i'm holding tickets like 33/1 and 50/1 Eske too, i've got to click eventually?
with so many good dogs getting injured,partic in England I think long AP'ing is for crazee guys, better off on lottery, particularly as even few months before the odds across the board contract so tightly...rather than wanting to lay you know it's almost like firms default starting position is scared of getting taken for more than a few hundred by one single punter regardless of their book position, and act accordingly. The St Leger with so many leading fancies (at terrible odds) badly injured last few month a good example. Re Derby best way in my view was the old way, go on Day 1 and place your money with a smiling jovial gentlemen like Tony Morris RIP. Regrettably those days are RIP too!
I,m with the original poster, had a good bit of the 25,s and backed him last year. would have taken a lot of beating last year but for injury and have taken a view on him, the one dog i would choose to own if had a choice.

If it wasn't for the obvious problems and lack of activity i'd agree that of those at the top of the market he'd interest me the most (at the prices) but there is too many doubts for me.

I love Eden Star but don't think he's likely to return to his very best form.
