bookies were brilliant, especially the one who bet " without the ist 3 " cheers.

Remember going in the late 80s to bet a dog and some how parked in a multi story. We did our nuts in and literally didnt have any money to pay to get out of the car park so we had to smash the barrier with the car.

I once backed one their called CENTRAL PARK(evens fav)in a hcap, its trap lid opened slightly before the others and it duly made all and won. As we were all waiting to draw a couple of the books bellowing "its a void race, you wont get paid".  after a while the race was declared o.k and we all collected. It was the last race of the evening,and i recall the four of us then heading off to the palace nightclub near the tower...great days.

went regularly in the 80s cant remember all the bookies but one was called Teacher real name Graham, remember the opens 5 dogs first come first served you paid the entry fee winner take all. some memorable gambles landed had dogs with Brian Simpson.

so took the dog out of the starting traps and walked him off the track

I believe Teacher has fallen on hard times but am informed by a very reliable source that Keith Swain did indeed make a book at Blackpool betting under an alias.

It wasprobably ruined by the punters all wanting to cheat themselves whilst demanding others get managed tightly by the handicapper ! It must have taken people of magical ability to run a flapping track well and keep everybody happy !

the handicapper never stood a chance it was all about who was the best at pulling a job, obviously you have never flapped in your life, some stories would blow your mind, but great days there and at Preston.

Started to go down hill when Boyles introduced red lightit wasnt based purely on time finding but on weight of money never saw them red light an outsider

Started life flapping lockup thats why I say what I did ! You couldnt have a market when everyone was waiting for the smart money to follow it on and 4 dogs were getting stopped to bet one (ofen the dodgepot but thats another story) . Heard many stories but am honest enough to say there are surely stories that would open my eyes.Raced at Blackpool twice but too long ago to recall details.

Never went but heard a lot about it from Ron Humphreys while watching afternoon BAGS at White City!

Ron had some great dogs at Blackpool one of my favorites was Emperor

greytom - never forget one afternoon he had a runner with a very good chance on form but no run on the card for nearly three weeks. One of his owners asked him if he thought the dog might just need it; Ron said nothing but gave him a brief smile. Needless to say it hosed up, fit as a flea!

Remember him taking a dog he fancied strongly to Harringey for an ITV7 race; would have gone very close at double figures had it not soughed. Is my memory playing tricks or might it have been Fair Reward? Happy days those BAGS meeting were.

my first experience of blackpool was an open race asked bookie for a 1000 for two wnt to move on to next bookie he said where ugoin what do u wannt said another 800 uve got that called him Mr green he broke the track record his registered name  was Santanita favorite for 70 greyhound derby disqualified in quarter final bot him for £650
