I've started blogging & will preview the odd meeting from Australia, this is today's blog, but with it being in the "Australia" section I thought I'd post it here too. The meeting begins in just under four hours.
I will start with a hypothetical pool of 500 units for bets & use NSW tote prices for dividends.
Nowra today sees some semi-finals for a Group 2 puppy classic they hold each year. It doesn't appear the greatest betting program but let's see what we can find.
Race 1 - Maiden Race, I'll stay out of it completely. If 1 can go in a field, it has good enough trial time to win but I won't be risking it.
Race 2 - No.1 Joyce's Happy is drawn perfectly on the corner start and has a great record at Nowra, I'd suggest a 10 unit win bet. I'd play a trifecta 1/5-6-7/5-6-7-8 for 1 unit (cost 6) and a boxed quinella of 1-5-6-7 (6 units) Outlay 22 untis
Race 3 - There only looks to be two chances, 1 & 4, The 4 is a faster dog but has a tendency to miss the start, I've often made money laying this dog in harder fields. I will simply play trifectas here 1-4/1-4/Field and 1-4/Field/1-4 Total Outlay 24 units
Race 4 - 6 looks the goods here to me 20 unit win bet.
Race 5 - Whilst no.5 looks the best on paper, it is a risky beginner and has a poor draw, I'm going a small bet on a value runner here, No.3 3 units win 2 units place
Race 6 - No.5 Looks the winner, only danger for me is No.3, 10 units win 5 and quinella 3&5 for 5 units
Race 7 - Big fan of No.6 here 10 unit win bet.
Race 8 - Nos 3&6 look the only chances, 5 unit win bet on No.3
Race 9 - Another Maiden Race, no bet
Race 10 - A race full of either dogs that rarely win or inexperienced chasers, no bet
Outlay for the meeting is 101 units

Race 2 Outlay 22 Return 18 - We got our winner but unfortunately missed our exotics so a small loss of 4 units
Race 3 - Outlay 24 Return 10 - well I landed the trifecta and predicted correctly that the winner would come from 1 of 2, I even nominated the more risky runner, however my conservative bet was costly with a woeful trifecta dividend of just $10 hurting the bank (-$14) and leaving us 18 units behind early in the day
Race 4 - a nice win for our selection at $1.60 gives us a 12 unit profit for the race and leaves us -6 units for the day

Race 5 - No luck here with our small investment finishing fourth, a loss of 5 units leaves us -11 units for the day
Race 6 - bit of a wipeout with my selections running 2nd and 3rd, a loss of 15 sees me down 26 units for the day with only two bets remaining, looks like I'm headed for a losing day but hopefully the damage will be minimized
Race 7 - no luck at all there with our runner appearing to go amiss, a loss of 10, leaving us -36 for the day
Race 8 - A lesson learned? I nominated only 2 chances yet back only one, naturally the other wins at $8.50, a price that easily would have allowed me to back both. But I guess that's what this post is all about. A loss of 5 totaling -41 for the day
