Interesting 4 page thread on this subject on one of the other forums - almost unanimous in the condemnation of the Monmore RM and his clueless decision.

He should be in the race, he won the August Festival over 416m this year clocking 24.68 going (N), surely you can't make a real case for his form not being good enough to warrant a place in that race?

back pocket talking to be fair ! he's form not that bad Think running him over short 4 bends as nice his edge over two IMO I'm little glad he's not running as I've punted him last 4 runs!

Shame he isn't running as I would have been keen to take the dog on given hs recent form and a trip which I love taking shortish ones on.The RM should have put him in the race no doubt at all even though he is running a little flat. I think this decision could well come back to haunt the RM and Whoever actually made the decision shouldn't really be allowed such power ever again.

Let's speculate, for example, that the dog was not added to the list of entries due to a racing office oversight.
If that was the case, and I'm not saying it was, would you come clean and hold your hands up to the error, or try and justify your decision with some utter bullsh!t about recent form not being good enough.

think you come clean wales, everyone makes mistake and im pretty sure a call to mark apologising and everyone would have accepted it. coming up with some **** leads you to being absolutely slaughtered by nearly everyone in the industry and leaves your reputation in tatters imo.

this isnt just a good dog though fats, its a category one winner thats won a festival at the very track in recent times thats one of the leading sprinters in the country and probably would have been favourite. this isnt your average open runner its one of the leading dogs in the country, and i'm saying that having opposed it plenty lately and for my balls at henlow.

I have called the racing office a few times over the course of yesterday and today to see if I can have a civil discussion with the RM in order to fathom out his rationale for leaving Lil Risky out the race and having him as a reserve. Unfortunately, it appears that the RM has been "unavailable" to speak to me on each occasion.
I also want to clarify the position the next time there are 2 (or possibly 3) divisions of 416 meter Opens at the track - I expect our guy will to be in the lower division given the fact he is "not good enough" to get into what is no better than a Div' 2 open tomorrow night.
I will let you know how the conversation goes - if it ever takes place.

Can only think it must have been an oversight. Maybe the decision-maker didnt know the dog, sure he does now and mainly concentrates on grading. Mistakes happen, we are only human. Connections most hard done by and if it affects the result of top Sky dog, could be repercussions

How can he not know the dog Woody? Be realistic FFS, the dog won the August Festival 416m at the bloody track and is on sky nearly every single meeting.
As said why don't he just say he made a mistake and that will be that then.

Call me all you like but seems the most logical explanation, unless he's got a grudge with the owner. How do you know they havent just employed a green-back?

I remember looking at some form once and disregarded a dog. It duly won. Only then i realised what the dog was, would have been a play. Oversights happen. Like everybody, i dont understand Lil Risky's non-participation either, just trying to make some sense of it

The point is that if he made a mistake then why not just admit it instead of leaving himself open to ridicule by trying to jutify it.
These guys have opens at the track most weeks, and four "festivals" each year so they should have a good handle on the open race scene.

would say its easier to know the form about a dog like lil risky on sky every week exposed for all to see than a pup grading in at his own track...... not "knowing the dog" really is no excuse, probably more in this instance than anything - he won the ruddy festival there ffs.

you'd have to question a rm capabilities to do the job if he genuinely doesnt think lil risky, even a slightly below par lil risky, isnt good enough for this race,no wonder the monners graded crew are all driving round in bentleys and scoffing at nandos 7 days a week!

Not even sure Lil Risky is that below par. Silver medals last twice praiseworthy really, just he's set such a high standard in the past. No use speculating anyway. Rick or no rick, bookmakers or anyone can make them

Got a call from the Monmore RM earlier today and when I asked him to explain his decision to me he said he assessed all the entries on their current, winning form and on that basis he decided against including our guy. He then went on to admit that, in hindsight, it was the wrong decision and he had made an error of judgement.
To be fair, it's not everyone who would find it easy to admit to a mistake like that so I accepted his apology and assured him we would continue to support the Opens at Monmore.
I think it's now time to draw a line under the episode and wish all the runners on tonight's card the best of luck.
Damn, I forgot to clarify if we would be in Div' 2 or 3 the next time there are a few 416mtr Opens at the track

To be fair Addy, it wasn't the response I was expecting either.
Time to move on now - nice wee comp' at Peterborough next week, hopefully we will be accepted there without too much fuss :)

Winning time last night 24.97, Lil Riskys winning time 24.68 - both on normal tracks and similar run styles - crack out and hold on. Enough Said. Glad he phoned up and apologised, but it's very, very frustrating all the same.
