Does anyone have any news about  this meeting please as i'm contemplating going but wouldnt want to book a flight if it's not taking place or doesnt live up to expectations. Cant see anything on the igb website?

Apparently, i think it's a series of Invitation races and heard Ballymac Eske could be there?

I don't think any will go. I suppose Madison could go close to his own clock again but i don't think he leads this week. Had Sugar Ray ran the 575 clock could have been in danger but i don't see any of that field doing it. Sparta Maestro's clock is simply stunning and i'd be surprised to see that go. Can't see the 750 going either and not even sure what the 850 clock is, does Corporate Attack have that?

The track will probably be mental and they'll all go now Laugh

Think whatever wins the Sprint will have to do 18.40 so there's a chance of that going. Think the 600 record could very well go too!

live on IGB if you pay the €20 fee, was v poor reliability few months ago but has got better but was freezing again tonight.

Corporate Attack is 850yd holder in 2009, next best run was 70 spots slower in 2005!

I really think some British folk are gonna see how far behind Ireland their dogs are, with exception of the stayers obviously. Most of Eske and Warhawk races were against pups, and re Eske two clocks at Notts, well Sawpit just did a length quicker, I think my old sausage dog if he were still alive could break clock round there. If Eske cant through round 1 of Eclipse why would people take v short price on taking on much better class dogs in SPK. Warhawk from Trap 4, gotta be barking to back him..

Long odds-on wont be going but had a few bets.

850yds, 15/8 Future Boy cost me dearly Derby night but longer trip suit and think can collar Oneco. Dont rate the chances of the English here.

350yds, In contrast, happy with a little bet 7/1 Fernhill Jess, best odds guaranteed all dogs with 365 and PP, incidentally. Anything could win, imo, just flying the flag here.

Next Puppy Quarters. Got 3/1 Paradise Madison antepost and will be looking for her to further enhance her outright claims.

525yds Happy with 3/1 Farloe Warhawk. Tricky draw but fair bit quicker than Knockglass Billy Derby night and has since proved he can come from behind, unlike some of these. Dunno why Droopys Jet was 6/4 early show. Had his red Derby night, but no good.

600yds, Already said why i fancy 11/8 Eske. Just got a hunch Sparta Maestro may not be quite at his brilliant best. Besides, Barrie Draper knows exactly what it takes to win round Shelbourne Park.

525 Bitches, 575yds, 750 yds and 550yds all look hard to me and if having a go, minimum stakes. 5/1 College Maybe may be okay, dont think that far behind some shorter ones, at best. Same can be said of 5/1 Airlie Jet. 9/4 Droopys Robles, if breaking. Not sure Mildean Panther will get a run. Like i say, all hard races.

Good luck and have fun!

Kingo is worth something small @ 16s too in the 600 race i'd say, no idea how they have Tibetan Skies that price compared to Kingo and they are the wrong way around in my opinion. On his last race around here on Derby night Tibetan Skies refused to win over 575y hitting the front into the 3rd and then pulled up.

Droopys Jet napped here, will leave the bet until the death, only one defeat out of trap 1 at SP (v Vic), fair chance but see if the rains come first.
Will be keeping an eye on Mildeans price, no doubt the owners will weigh in if fit, shame they didnt wait a while with the straws.
Obviously like to see Maestro win, but question mark over his pain in the r s !

It was monsoon like weather last week, shockingly bad and the track was not slow so why would that be a worry? The dog gets 550y and is running over 525y, he stays 525y strongly, look at his 525y runs where he runs away from Bridge Honcho up the straight.
Report irishone November 30, 2012 12:38 PM GMT
All I am saying is i wont back him if its slow
Report Bassanio November 30, 2012 1:09 PM GMT
The track would not be significantly slow unless they dug up the sand etc and it absolutely bucketed down on the treated surface.

They will want the track as fast as possible on this night with the anticipation that brilliant times can make the headlines. The rain that came last week was as heavy as we are likely to see and the chances of the track being slow must be very remote.
Report irishone November 30, 2012 1:21 PM GMT
I agree with you , but there is not much between these dogs , and the number of times dogs are put up on here for the open meets in the evening and then cometh the hour its either peeing down,  there's a track bias or the early pacers are not getting home. I think both Mildean and Droopys are late decisions , albeit for different reasons.

Mr Mint, viz your post above. Yes, that's my view that English based dogs should not be running because the revenue to pay prizemoney on the night has been generated by attendances at tracks in Ireland which has been produced by Irish based dogs' owners paying for training, vet, race entry fees and diesel costs for those dogs to run at tracks in Ireland all year.

Now that the card is finalized I think it looks excellent & will support and cant wait to watch and hope all dogs come back sound.

The Draper family do indeed take the dogs they train to Ireland from time to time for mostly one off races to compete for big prizes. And you comment on Albert RIP generous contributions, and they should be congratulated for this.

But they dont own all their dogs, and if you were e.g Danmar Benny's owner or similar dogs connections that have competed in Ireland all year, paying the entry fees for each race and diesel, and have not even got any run money in some races, and those entry fee revenues  are now being paid out in prizemoney for Night of Stars, do you think they think it's OK for dogs to come over and run and they are not accepted..particularly when the initial press release said the Night was an Irish night for Irish greyhound racing. Is that right? I say no. But will enjoy the racing. The Drapers support Irish racing very occasionally, but nowhere near to the extent those do that support it each and every week with their hard earned and attendances

You dont say why Mullar Omar.

Remember its not like the English Derby with big bookie sponsor or the Irish Derby (1 English entry) or the Dundalk INTERNATIONAL (zero English entries) both big bookie sponsor. A good proportion of night of stars are from people in Ireland going to their track week in week out and paying fro their dogs to enter races (unlike England), & other costs.

Here are excerpts from the original press release:

"NIGHT OF STARS A MASSIVE BOOST FOR IRISH GREYHOUND RACING

The inaugural Night of Stars will be staged at Shelbourne Park on Saturday, December 1st and the eight one-off championship races involved will carry total prizemoney of €92,000. It promises to be one of the greatest nights in the illustrious history of Shelbourne Park.

The Night of Stars is envisaged as the sport’s end of year celebration of our track champions.

As Pat explained, the IGB came up with the grants that made it all possible and the committee undertook the task of getting eight individual sponsors for each of the races.

Said Pat O’Donovan: “This night is being run for Irish greyhound racing and the owners, breeders, trainers and bookmakers will be the ones to benefit most. We ask them all to come on board to support us and to make this night a major success”.

The full all-open championship card on the big night will comprise of the Eight Night of Stars races plus the four quarter finals of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake.

Mullar Omar should dogs from Chile, New Zealand, Pakistan, US, Australia, Argentina also be running?

Excellent meeting. Spent a small fortune for one night's entertainment but worth every penny. Here's my angle on it:

Said thought Maestro would be better suited to the long run up than Eske but still count myself a shade unlucky not to have recouped expenses. Eske closed approaching the 3rd bend and looked like he might have gone on at one point. However, he crucially lost over a length, to my estimations, when challenging but squeezed for room on the inside on the crest. Still a slight chances with Maetro wide run in, as said, but Eske had no more in the locker. Kicked myself didnt have the 6/4 saver Maestro but at the time, felt it too easy to back, considering he was in his own back-yard. Reckon it was still a tremendous buckle between two super dogs, with very little to choose between them
Report woodmanchester December 2, 2012 12:29 PM GMT
Drama with the 525 race declared void after the hare cable snapped. From what i could see, all the money was for Knockglass Billy and reckon the bookies had a very lucky escape. Billy shot out and a skirmish between Warhawk and Rioga, soon after leaving the boxes, saw him flying along the back straight with a winning lead, imo, before the breakdown.

Lot of great wins elsewhere, including Borna Gem (now the fastest bitch ever over the 525 course) and White Soks Roks (apparently a staying career in England may now beckon for him).

Finally, Leamaneigh Story lowered the colours of clock holder Paradise Madison in the first quarter final of the puppy comp and looks a fine prospect.

Would have to say one of the very best meetings i've ever attended! Excited

Best dog won on the night. Run the race a few times and think they'd probably win equal amounts.

Anyway, i see your fear about slow going in the rain was a major issue. If ever anyone was talking out of their *rse, it was you then! Laugh

The Connolly’s Red Mills 525, which had to be declared void after the hare-rail broke on Saturday’s major Night of Stars meeting, is likely to be run on Saturday night next.

Racing Manager Declan Carey said yesterday that “We hope to run the race on Saturday and we would envisage it being the feature race on a top class card that would include the semi-finals of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake and the first round heats of the Shelbourne Christmas Oaks”.

The owners, trainers and sponsors will be consulted this morning to see if it is feasible to run the race next Saturday but the likelihood is that English challenger Farloe Warhawk may be an absentee. Trevor Draper said on Saturday that this race was intended to be his last of the year and a repeat journey to Ireland would be doubtful. It will be perfectly understandable if Farloe doesn’t go for the race but he could be replaced by one of the reserves for last Saturday’s race.

The problem on Saturday night was caused by the hare rail breaking and this resulted in the cable being sheared as it passed the 750 trap. Unfortunate as it was, it was the only negative on a fabulous night which featured a huge crowd and terrific betting returns.

A meeting of the Night of Stars Committee will be held in the coming weeks when it will be decided if the Night of Stars will continue next year. Certainly on Saturday there was a huge demand for the night to become an annual event.

RPTV should put on a rematch at Hove Englands best galloping track at 515mts.The stake holders of RPTV should put up the match prize money divided 50/50.How much would this create in betting turn over?

FAO Swayne - Yes if Argentinian/Chile dogs had strong enough form then ffs YES they should be allowed to run.

Factionalism, division, protectionism, self interest etc is all that is wrong in the game.

Their is a very real possibility that top end greyhound racing in UK and Ireland as we have known it for the past 20 odd years could fall to pieces very quickly over the next handful of years.

All interest groups need to come together for the betterment of the sport and that includes awesome nights like last saturday. I travelled from the UK to attend it and like many their thought the last race was a buckle that will last long in the memory and is the sort of thing that causes sponsors and owners/trainers with deep pockets to keep pulling up to help the sport. Oh and guess what it was a buckle that fascinated so much cos it had probably the best 600yard dogs from the UK and Ireland going at it.

agree was spectacle for reason you stated. think UK needs governing body that cares for sport and is independent and to attract non bookie sponsorship. my point was a) not fair for Irish dogs that had run all year that provided the revenue to pay prizemoney missing out for those that have not provided the revenue and b) was advertized as Irish night

think if same night had happened in UK & same scenario and GBGB/BGRF had underwritten to provide funds for prizemoney, UK folk would be up in arms

I wonder will the bookmakers (off course) price this up now? After going over the void race many times i've and even stronger opinion of the race now, wonder how they'll price it if they do.

2 will obviously be shorter than last week, I fancy the top. I had no opinion on the original race, Holland fancied 2 before last weeks race, and they thought he would have won on Saturday, I think Jet would have just pulled him in.
intriguing wee race for the opinionated

You are probably spot on Swayne.

But I was told that all us 400 mugs who paid up E100 each for a ticket in restaurant
on saturday conributed a huge chunk of the prize money?

The GBGB really is a mess. They should be leading the industry and given a mandate to do so. Instead
the leadership of it hide behind what they claim is their only role which is to `regulate'.

So UK greyhound racing continues down to the bottom of a well full of shhhiitte because there is no one with any authority
or power to try and plan for a brighter future.

Sickeningly sad.
