Noticed over the last couple of years the general quality of dogs running at Nott has dropped drastically with loads of stupid maidens races. The majority of dogs running in these races struggle to win A1. Also been a move from 500 to 480m races, reason is short run to bend and plenty of trouble.

But even this year Sheffield quality is very poor as well this and again last year moved to  mainly 480m races.

I guess it's just a sign of the times and no money about.

Lets hope Coventry is a major success and I assume the standard trip will be 490 m and not hey let's have a short run to the bend.

Coventry Opens advertised for standard trip of 485m, which is 5m further than the standard prior to closure.

There isn't the dogs about any more, hence why there are more maidens which can be filled and inevitably they will be lower quality. It won't get any better with Cov opening, will just spread the dogs even thinner. I wouldn't say the move to 480 is for more trouble either, but to try and ensure the races fill.

Why on earth would 'more trouble' be a reason for trainers to enter their dogs in a race? I don't get it?

Cos afraid both meetings are on the bags so best interest for plenty a trouble. Very few opens in the north so trainers have no choice. Most of opens at Nott are sponsored by baldt&&t now so luvs a fav beaten. Two or three years ago when say 7-8 opens you might have had one 480 m race. Most meetings you now have more 480m races than 500m.
