Just back from the track. The rain held off until after the final Derby heat... but not until I got home. Have to say that was staggeringly impressive by Razldazl Jayfkay. However, last year's local rule, "The bowser shall be wheeled out immediately before Razldazl Jayfkay enters the traps" was re-instated. That's the first time I've ever seen him really ping out. Far from there being gasps from the crowd when the time was announced, there was a general murmur of "is that all?" - because it looked a lot better than a length-&-a-half superior to Judicial Ruling, who was immensely impressive himself.
Dolores looked pleased. She wandered down and sat in the pigeon-poo seats at the first bend, right next to where I was standing at the time, for the last heat. She had a couple of chaperones in tow. I thought it rude to try and see what she was doing on her i-pod... and rude to wonder why she had to do it so far away from the prying eyes of officialdom and her peers. One of her acquaintances had a laptop out, but I thought it rude to look at that as well. Some spy I'd make.
I wish they could have an FA Cup final for every round. Couldn't have been more than half of the crowd there tonight as pitched up last Friday, or even Saturday, and far fewer than last night. Many of those that did attend turned up very late. No problem at all getting served at bar or burger hut this evening. They opened the bottom end Dog's Paw bar. The barman looked very bored. For a while I was wondering if the takings would cover the cost of the staff wages, but the steady trickle of punters continued until almost halfway through the card. Tannoy played up quite a bit, though.
Right, I've got some maths to do.
