Won Carfin track championship years ago with McCabe(aka Lemon Master) and had plenty other open winners back in the days.

Flapping will be a huge loss to greyhound racing but i fear an inevitable one.

Ps also bookied at a couple and not too proud to say i couldnt make it pay.

in my day it was race where you wanted when you wanted,

nothing better than putting dog on back seat of car,
with a wad in your pocket, and bookies who would lay a bet,
only memories now

Never owned flapping dogs, but used to love going flapping up in the mids, chasewater, and norton canes were great fun i got to know a few of the owners and at chasewater you could wittle a 5 dog race down to 2 maybe 3 that could win,the others would have had a nice bit of hovis.Putting a bet on would be done after the people who gave you the info had put their bet on so it would open @2/1 the owner would put £50 on and the odds would change to 4/6 id have £30 on and 1/3 would be the next price and if it was a ringer you would be screaming slow down if they did 3 seconds better than their trial time a red light would appear and the race void a green light was met with a loud cheerHappyHappy. At Norton canes some serious money would change hands with the bookies they were fearless, more money was accepted in the ring than i see the bags tracks bookies accept now,im sure the story was the same country wide.Happy days and lots more fun than the sterile betting and racing we are offered now i think.....

silly user name , stfu . if i see someone has typed cobblers i will comment and 50 quid at 2s and 30 at 4/6 is not bookies taking big money , so a massive contradiction i feel and im certainly not a troll im a man that likes to show up idiots and theres certainly a few on this thread

Glasgow no doubt you have had a load of abuse again from michael59 . This fellah goes round every B F forum insulting people and trying to wind them up. I checked him out once by putting Michael59 on the search forums at the top of the page, so revealing. There must be about six other forums he uses that have the same opinion of michael as we have. Shame really , I think he needs help !

I always think it's a shame that there's so little about dogs history online. I guess we were too busy punting to take photographs. Flicking around Google the main historical photos of tracks seem to be on Speedway websites.  Love threads like this.

Only flap I have ever been to was Ellesmere Port for a trial, though not on a race night.

Michael read my post again at chasewater was were the bookies would price up like i said,Norton canes was were the big money was bet £1,000 to £2,000 bets were struck on every race,a lot of gypsies bet at the track.Obviously youve never been flapping, and think glancing at a post then trying to be clever will adhere you to people it wont coz your not popular and certaintly not clever so either find a thread you know something about,or start 1 up and we can all read it wrong and call you a ****......

you could get a bet on at warwick no probs you might get 500 on at 3s 500 on at 2s 500 4/6 500 1/3 but when you knew the dog would be close to the clock it didnt matter we put 2500 on one once and a mate was to slow getting on by the time i realised he hadnt got on it was 1/3 and i sent him back in
he was moaning saying there was no value and no point backing a dog at 1/3 it won by 10 lengths

a very well known trainer had backed his dog in the race and said we had cheated and woudnt be laughing when we got the red light  i pointed out it was a very good plot which had gone to plan and the man mountain stood in the racing office doorway had only come along to make sure that didnt happen Grin

I always wonder what made the bookies stand at flaps - I guess they were hoping that 2 or 3 plots would go against each other and cut each others throats?

One of Harry Thorpes tricks(bolton handicapper)was to put adog he new to be a job dog in to win only to bring in a reserve to beat it remember this happening to a great private trainer the bitch he put in was Stay in Business later the mother of the great Game Ball
