With 11 wins from 13 starts, by an average of about 4 1/2, with just 2 unlucky narrow defeats, cant understand why Eden Star isnt in the top 3 ante-post betting. Indeed, one of his defeats came with his first look round an unfamiliar very tight track, where he later went on to smash the track record, clocking 23.34s over 400m Romford, a clock I'm convinced will stand long after i've gone.
Take a closer look at his CV. Broke the 480m track record at Sheffield on only his 2nd appearance, Wimbledon Puppy Derby, Romford Puppy Cup, Laurels and Juvenile Champion and fastest hound in the country, in my humble opinion.
Some people still think he's not got what it takes, crazy .
What's this dog got to do to make people realise he's a superstar?
Got lucky with the draw! Got lucky sky does not seem its self? Mybe But ****ing hate red with that kink in the rail one good win from red all weekend that came from off the pace! Eden star was unreal to half way but how good was he from half way to the line?

Eden didnt get lucky with the draw Fatty. Better from T2 or T3. Always edges off slightly wearing red. Could be close to evens each of 2 with Sky just favoured in the market, but reckon brute force will see Eden brush Sky early and lead up, hold on. Just everything crossed, fingers, toes, legs and even eyeballs both qualify. That's the theory anyway!

That's afwul news, whether you where with Eden Star or against Eden Star nobody wants to see his Derby campaign end like this. Feel sorry for his owner / owners and the Drapers

How much more luck can the taylors lot get, perilous draw turns into a gimme 5 dog heat after getting all the draws to win it last year. Horrendous for connections having done everything right by the dog. Taken a huge gloss of the whole event now.

agree duke, personally not their biggest fan, that is very very very sad news. huge condolences to everyone associated with the dog. also feel sympathy for those that punted him, having your conkers on and not being beaten on merit. has definitely taken a shine off of the event.

desperate news, gutted for punters and connections, the derby wont be the same without him in it for sure, without being negative about taylors, who is one of the best dogs ive ever seen, this would have been his ultimate test,at last.

Sad news of Eden Star's withdrawal. As a gesture we will refund ante-post bets with a free bet to reinvest and have another go (T&Cs apply)
Doesn't say what they are though?
Perhaps the T&C are it doesn't apply to winning punters

On flip side how's the dog gone lame after one or two runs this year? Wrapped up all winter? Sad news but the derby rolls on think Eden and sky would of tangled up!

Sure its been a long time since so many greyhound enthusiasts have been disappointed. I only had a score on at 33/1 early last July, could have won just £680, but not the first time and wont be the last a strong ante-post favourite scratched. I remember Boher Paddy in the Steel City only last year.
Could have a similar bet Ballymac Eske 33/1 also for next 2013 Derby but yet another runner Farloe Warhawk may not be too far behind that irresistable puppy, out at Hove on Thursday! . Still, once bitten...
Eden was my best bet of the year but hoping it can be made up for COME ON CITY!

absolutely gutted but however much you've had on him,and believe me I've had plenty, you've got to feel so sad for owner and trainer who will be hurting as much as the dog. They've laid him out brilliantly and hopefully the dog comes back firing and goes onto prove himself to be one of the best seen. Shelbourne might not suit as much and the trip might be just to far (he gets 500m/550yd at Sheff though) and the run to the bend shorter but the Drapers do like a crack at an Irish pot - Thurlesbeg Joker springs to mind. a week between rounds will help too.
Whatever they do lets hope we see plenty of him across the rest of the year.

The Bar One Sprint at Dundalk over 400y i persume ye are talking about. Cracking Man was 2nd in it last year, it's ran late July into early August i think.

Seriously though, we have the Premiership in our own hands now
Mancini aggro Mancini aggro, ello ello, Mancini aggro! lol .4/9 Mancini, 2/1 Ferguson, over 10 rounds! .Seriously though, we have the Premiership in our own hands now
Addy, told you we should have lumped on the City (Premiership) Chelsea (Champions League) double but no kind hearted soul worked me out best combined odds, as i'd so politely requested.
Now City have wrapped up the Premiership , back to dogs.
Fatty, i didnt mean favourite literally and from a price point of view, but from being alot of people's favourite, or people's most hoped for Derby winner.
Sure the scratching being a shame, is the only thing Irishone and i have ever agreed on.
Dont think Eden needs to be going to Ireland. Plenty of pots for him to plunder up to 480m when he's recovered and fit again

Of course Eden Star does not need to come to Ireland but if you are looking at options for where he could reappear i think Fatties suggestion is a good one. 400y at Dundalk would be no problem to him and Cracking Man went close to winning it last year. €20,000 to the winner, €5,000 to 2nd, €2,500 to 3rd, €1,250 for 4th, €1,000 for 5th and €750 for 6th. I can't think of many competitions over in England bar the Sunderland Classic that will be run for that sort of money and the Drapers are not adverse to having runners over here.

the trial showed many people all was not right and many had him as a lay accordingly......the moment was the reason for the opposition not any reflection on his ability.....sadly the layers were right and the dog was not fully sound....shame

Think i heard Eden clocked the fastest to halfway, that was the minus 30 night and not normal going like Phoenix the previous night. Desperately unlucky, imo. Could have another crack next year, but really thought he had a tremendous chance this.
Maybe the Pall Mall could be a target. Showed he can fly round small tracks well for a big dog at Romford. Sunderland Festival possible also.
Not sure about the Irish Sprint. 2 bends galloping track could be okay but think Edens optimum trip a not too testing 4 bends. The money could be the thing though but i wouldnt like to see him being messed about coming and going over the pond.
PF, having just said that, do you know if any big prizes in the Night of Champions at Tralee for Eden. Dont know the track, would it suit Eden?

dont know why steve and becky get knocked so much i put it down to people are jealous of them
last year at monmore first round of gold cup my son 7years old went up and asked steve if he could stroke taylors sky as it was his favourite greyhound he aranged it after the race and again after the semi final. when taylors sky won the gold cup final steve and becky came looking for my lad and asked if he would like to go and collect the trophy with them and charlie lister he has got the picture on his bedroom wall. in 20 years of watching greyound and going the tracks it was the nicest gesture id ever seen so like i said people who knock them either dont know them or are just jealous

he had a pop last year quarter final night, had a pop the other week about people not seeding their dogs correctly which was a bit uncalled for, and a couple of years ago she went a bit billy about taylors riviera apparently not getting the respect she deserves and people knocking her, despite most felt she was the best marathon dog about at the time. for me i think they are both incredibly arrogant, infinitely more jealous of the mortons who have homebred superstars on a production line.

Dont know the guy other than say hello to, but he always acknoledges me. Think he's just passionate about his dogs as any owner would be. Maybe he is a bit outspoken sometimes but we all can be on occasions. Believe he wasnt well and not all that long out of hospital. I wish him well and a quick return to full health anyway
