Does it really surprise you ? We tried to get a trial on Wednesday for our bitch, who is graded at wimbledon, the RM turned us down as it is an derby trial session.....they're only 29 trials FFS,surely he could of let some graders trial ? Or is he too busy having 21 races to grade this week....place is a joke
Report casemoney April 17, 2012 5:00 PM BST
Sad well if they cant fill 2 cards the place is in dire straights ,has been run into the ground past few years ,the lively hoods of many now at more risk than ever, surely some of
the other trainers are looking to go elsewhere can only be a matter of time before they
follow nora in jumping ship .
Report Catford Toteboard April 17, 2012 7:35 PM BST
Yes Rumbe, we're in the same boat. Need a requalifying trial after a long lay off and a sprint last week. Was told they won't put on another session because the GRA wont pay the overtime. Modsall's dogs needs qualifying too. Also heard they are going to put on a couple on Thursday night graded cards during the Derby.

feel sorry for owen in there, knows the time of day must be banging his nut against the wall with his hands firmly tied.
Report Rumbe April 18, 2012 8:57 AM BST
Catford,my point is,is that graded dogs could of trialled after the derby dogs have trialled,as I said they're only 29 trials......yet Matthews decided not to let the graders trial, why ? Just ridiculous ! Does the RM not realize the graders keep his **** ehole of a track in business week in,week out
Report irishone April 18, 2012 9:00 AM BST
geyser cant win
last year he   c o c k e d  up the derby trials anyway
perhaps he should go  or listen to the owners/trainers more
Report safari guide April 18, 2012 9:01 AM BST
They probably prepared a fast track for the Derby dog trials and graded strength would have revealed just how much they had altered the going.
Report irishone April 18, 2012 9:09 AM BST
Thing is all the Irish trainers were accomodated this year much earlier

One year too late .... no Big Mike at the Don ! Laugh
Report Rumbe April 18, 2012 11:56 AM BST
Safari,I understand, what you're saying, however if the graded trials are AFTER the derby dogs then the going can be adjusted accordingly, and it has been p issuing it down here all morning, just been told that more derby trials are happening before racing on Friday and maybe Saturday as well....so we could be waiting another week to trial, then a wait to get back on the card because of the derby, which I fully understand, yet we can't run in an inter track unless we're graded back on at Wimbledon,I just cannot understand why the bread and butter dogs were not accommodated today
Report Catford Toteboard April 18, 2012 12:06 PM BST
I do take your point Rumbe in that there are only 29 trials. Been there till nearly 4.00 pm waiting for a sprint trial when they've had over 60 trials pre Springbok. Wouldn't have hurt them to put another 20 trials on.
Report casemoney April 18, 2012 2:12 PM BST
so the new trainer mr Modsall's dogs need qualifying but they wont pay the overtime to have
the trials Laugh you seriously have got to be kidding ,wtf have they brought him over if he cant trial his dogs Grin Im seriously pmsl Laugh its beyond belief shirley if his dogs had already qualified you would then be able to have 12 race cards ,the tote retention
must cover the over time ,how many dogs has this chap got ,you cannot make this up Laugh
Report casemoney April 18, 2012 2:17 PM BST
I really cannot believe this is true ,can someone  at the racing post ,while they are swanning
about at the derby trials ,actually ask someone WTF is going on ?

Did you hear about the one where one minute last weekend the trainers were told that there would be a graded meeting on Thursday....two hours later the management for some reason cancelled it

Turns out that there is an inter track at Oxford which the Oxford trainers so I'm told are doing there nut about as there dogs are not getting enough runs as it is
Report Catford Toteboard April 24, 2012 4:55 PM BST
Wimbledon management said in the Post that they were putting on a graded meeting as they had sold a lot of covers in the restaraunt. Has it really been cancelled?
Report Rumbe April 25, 2012 9:53 PM BST
Not according to the WGOA site Catford

Keith:
Receiving a few comments about the on/off Thursday meeting. Was there not an option of going ahead with minimum staff cover. If a small crowd was expected
and numbers in the restaurant known, then two staff on the turnstiles Steve And Ron would have sufficed, Alex on the restaurant, and a quarter to half of the
security
staff in, and appropriate numbers of Tote staff and waitress and bars. Just a thought. Other suggestions were to have the Derby Thursday and Friday and
Graded
Saturday.

Keith reply

"Thursday was a non runner when I looked at bookings etc. No-one booked in the restaurant, 16 people pre-paid trackside. Whether we have 200 or 2000 I have
to have the same number of security which is over £1k, prize money which is over £2k plus heating power and other staff. The year before last we had 385
people in total on the Thursday evening, took £1,100 on the TOTE and had 32 in the restaurant (remember we did have Derby heats on that night as well)".

The above was the reply to our email why there was not an extra meeting on Thursday when the Derby is on,

I think you can see his point

Wimbledon is a complete and utter disgrace of a track. Nobody seems to care anymore.
Report Catford Toteboard May 1, 2012 11:01 PM BST
We know that Slippy, but what are we going to do?
Losing £30k a month, track owners not interested.
At least we have some decent racing now and then.
Will either be sold (good) or close (bad) within a year, imo.
