on ceefax p208 today in Lad brokes shops £2.5 billion taken over counter £10.5 billion spent in FOBT machines over 80% of business
Taking into account the majority of over the counter business is probably still horse racing, and he rise in football betting, how much is for greyhounds Also taking into account there is at least one all weather horse racing meeting throughout winter
sge - u think bags racing is a good thing for the sport? seriously???
the promoters take the pieces of silver from the books and then dont have to do anything to promote the sport at their track. BAGS racing has enslaved the game.
for their 8k a meeting they can rule bags tracks by fear. have 1 gamble and the trainer is in trouble. any more and theyre out.
they manipulate the markets to their own benefit for a few hundred quid. for 300 quid, they can make a 4/1 chance, 5/2 fav.
why do u think they pay 8k to certain tracks, yet wont lay more than a tenner win or a quid forecast?
now, with the advent of rptv, they can see that they have finally got what they want. enough of their own tracks to fill rptv 6-7 nights a week and, with the latest release of shop turnover showing that over 80% is now fobt, they can justify facking off bags/begs racing.
why pay 8k to sittingbourne, swindon, kinsley etc, for the aggro that is dog racing? they have saturated the shops with it - be honest, sit in a shop and see how long u last. they have ruined it - totally over-killed it.
i was bought up with the advent of sis on 8 hackney races on saturday, 12 on tuesday and 12 every other thursday. u couldnt keep me out of the shops for those meetings. now - i cant do more than 15 minutes in a shop.
u may think its doom and gloom - think what u like. but the figures dont lie.

I dunno where you muppets get your figures from. For a start bags is fast catching up the horses and secondly the percentage split profit wise is around 60/40 in the favour of over the counter. Go back to bed and dream up another crock of shi te to knock greyhound racing you sad people!

...and for the benefit of the clueless thread starter, average profit per week per fobt machine 700 quid x 4 equals 2800. Over the counter average turnover 25 k x 18% profit.....you do the maths!

this is the bit that interested me - from page 9 of the pdf, under business review.
(3) Greyhound tracks account for £11.0 million of amounts staked and £7.1 million of gross win in 2011 (2010: £10.3 million of amounts staked and £6.5 million of gross win)

now i cant quite work out what this refers to. is it monmore and crayford operations? put it this way, keeping over 7m of 11m staked is working to very impressive margins.

your figures are not incorrect, but actual profit they still make just about more over the counter than they do on the machines. Scary the turnover on them things though....

hlad - i know. if u read the report in full, ladbrokes admit the direction their business is taking - football, in running and fobt.
as 'negative', iyo, that i have been about bags and dog racing, i wouldnt be too confident about the hoss business.

Off course firms showed a gross gaming yield of approximately £260m on greyhound racing in 2010/11 (horse racing £705m) - both figures down year on year but horse race decline was sharper. I guess that figures for year to 31 March 2012 will show an even greater need for greyhound racing.
