His mate Conway had some new cashier who was about 19 in tears when he did his job on her. Can't say I was that bothered as the manager of that shop has gone out of her way to make my life as difficult as possible. The cashier kept her job.
I find it almost impossible to believe these people don't end up taking a weekly beating if they try this **** on with the indy's though. |

He came in a shop I had a share in many years ago & we got him putting his money behind the counter before we'd accept a bet from him. He came in one day and chucked some money behind the counter. I said to him "I fancy one myself today" He said "who is it, I'll lay ya" The prices came over for a Greyhound race and the first show was 7/2. He laid me 3 1/2 50s. The next show was 6/4. The Greyhound bolted home and he was not best pleased!

Barry used to go over the stow regularly with his ill gotten gains. I must say I thought he was ok away from his err day job.
btw The above story was about Kenny, not Barry. |
|
By:
Never saw Kenny whilst I was at bill's. Thought he would chuck it in with the legal troubles but we were still getting security alerts about them both.
Saw Barry the odd time but he never tried it on in the shops I was in. Find it hard to totally dislike the pair of them as they are quite good comedy value but can't really condone it as people do get the tin tack over their tricks. |

what were some of their tricks jacks? sound like an interesting couple!

Just taking advantage of mug staff really. Slow counts. Ambiguous bets etc.
Picture the scene busy saturday morning in a shop. Mug cashier behind the jump. £200 win on t3 at Romford. Drop the cash on the floor as you go to pay. Dog traps and looks 1.01 pay up. Dog gets ko'd first bend the say either bet was for £2 or just walk out of the shop. The ambiguous fc's and tc's really are a work of art but are impossible (for me) to explain on here. Needless to say they had every dog on the slip yet pay for 6 or 12 perms and collect if the staff are daft enough to settle the bet how they explain it. |

Pencil Man was diff speed. Did put a few of the cashiers through the mill. Think he spent a bit of time with her majesty.

The pencil man was a arris hole. Screaming and threatening old women to get paid out.

In the world of betting shop Conmen he was of diff speed you could say an Open Racer compared to others and then the law caught up i believe. He was a lunatic Liverpool fan and used to ring us up when he was in the away end at Old Trafford singing you'll never walk alone.

This guy Pencil Man, how old is he?
A good few years ago now I used to work behind the jump for laddies in Brighton and we had someone come in pulling a tricast con, much better than the every dog on the slip too. He came in very friendly, talking in a southern accent, but I was later told he was scouse. A bit too friendly. He tried it on, but before anyone we could definitely identify it as a scam without checking the tills he was going on about contacting his solicitor and stormed out of the shop. At that point nobody had accused him of anything, he jumped too far down his script! Guessing now the guy would be about 45 blond hair?? When I was up at Brighton racecourse working behind the counter we had a guy called John Hughes turn up who was another one on the list of customers to beware of. He brought a slip to me and I didn't have a clue who he was. He didn't look anywhere near as menacing as you'd think someone like this ought to be. Anyway, his slip was a bit messy and I had trouble working out the bet. Asked him what was what etc, he clarified and that was that. Thought he'd been sussed and didn't try anything the whole afternoon. Maybe he wasn't intendning to. Just acted like a normal punter and was no problem. Barry Conway went into another shop my mate was working and as soon as the scam started they sussed him. Apparently he was very good about it saying well done etc etc. |
|
By:
Did John Hughes' betting slip read like 1st Fav or poss 2nd Fav as selection?
|
|
By:
I can't remember tbh, but there was a lot going on with the slip, you could have possibly read it a few different ways around. Once clarified it stops the potential for any missunderstandings.
Like I said though, he was no bother whatsoever. |
|
By:
He got over a million pound out of his scams prior getting his collar felt. Google Liverpool Echo and you have a little read for yourself.
|
|
By:
That may have been so MrGrimshaw, but I'll lay odds most of it ended up back behind the counter anyway.
I'm just saying how I found him to be. On the day I dealt with him he was just another quiet punter who kept himself to himself. |

john hughes used to write
tp when challenged it could be tote place or tax paid i once saw him on the back pages of the news of the world spmething to do with him being the new security chief of the jockey club i could not believe my eyes, the people who employed him should all be sacked |

Thieves who have cost ordinary staff lots of grief over the years.
|
|
By:
While I have sympathy for the staff, I have no sympathy whatsoever for the big firms. The big firms have ripped many punters off for years. (Poor overrounds, market manipulation, obscene forecasts etc)
Perhaps the Greek team even up the score a bit. |
|
By:
Agree the staff behind the counter dont need to be subjected to the mental and physical violence the scammers give out but they employ people who havent a clue about the game pay them peanuts and rake an unbelieveable profit to turnover ratio, well they did years ago. Now the playing field has levelled out and theres more punters doing the homework there not prepared to take the same sized bets as of the golden years 10/20/30 years ago. They want it both ways. Long live the likes of Barney Curley the Robin Hood of the betting industry.

You must be talking about a different Barry. The Greek team are absolutely clueless!

Was Kenny wearing his ginger wig?

Fraud, deception and menacing behaviour are still criminal offences and Envers, Conway etc should all be banged up not worshipped as heroes because they're conning the bookies.

The staff that work in the shops do not need to take crap from thieves like Envers & Conway, or are shoplifters ok as well? How the bookies make their profits or set their rules have nothing to do with the staff. |

"Kenny Envers is a strange one. Id only seen the pics of him with a baseball cap on and when he was in the shop i was in he didnt have one on. It was only when he approached the counter, asked me to write his bet out as the hare was running and shouted at me for not moving quick enough i said "hello kenny" and he did 1, throwing a buffet on his way out lol. He'd asked for a price on the dog and i'd clicked so i showed him his face on the security page instead of the price he he he he

Kenny is the tops, good luck mate.

To anyone singing the praises of Kenny Envers, you're clearly ****s as he's an evil c**t!! Tried it on in my mates Betfred shop, stood no fkn chance, & when my mate knocked him back & told him why, Envers told my mate he hoped his kids died of cancer! Envers was fkn lucky my mate was having to single-man that night... he'd become a father for the first time a couple of weeks before but his son was born with a heart defect & was on life support. If he ever sees the nasty prick again it'll be Envers that ends up on life support!!

And well said Jack Stirling! I've had to deal with a couple- that fkn pikey Rory O'Shea or Daniel Doyle or whatever the fk he's calling himself nowadays- sticks out like a sore thumb though cos of his traveller accent... and some dopey looking mug from the 'Northampton Crew', who thought he'd be able to con me when he was the only person in the shop about half hour before closing lol. Obviously we took as much of his money as we could & then closed!
Why should my bosses being greedy mean I have to deal with verbal & physically abusive w*nkers? If it's fine for them to break the law by trying to defraud me, will it be fine if I take a bat into the shop & beat the living daylights out of them? You'd all be crying if you ran a business & people were trying to con you out of money. F*cking hypocrites! |
