Charlie rates the dog and there's the possibilty of less than 120 entries this year.
Well worth £250 to give him a chance. Even though he looks like a natural stayer he's got some real pace from mid way down the back straight.
Only an opinion mind

The dog is an outstanding 6 bend classic type who may even get 8 bends if connections decide to take him that way , his sister is pretty good .
As for the derby in solos he'd be there abouts but is bound to find trouble at some stage with the inside runners cannoning into him . Every dog has it's trip , this dog may have excellent 4 bend pace with average 4 bend dogs around him but he's always going to need massive luck in serious 4 bend comps like the Derby . Hes also a galloping type . Although i rate him as good a 6 bend dog as any in training he's not a derby dog form me . The big prices may tempt a few in but hes a 6 bend dog !

Tend to agree now after that run at Hove but it was his first real blow over the trip . He has so much pace it's unlikely he'll get 8 bends but in time it wouldn't surprise me . Hes a 6 bend dog and a very high class one at that . If he'd run in the Derby , he'd of gone a few rounds got knocked about and gone out . Lister has done the right thing for the dog imo and thats one of the reasons hes an outstanding trainer cause he puts the dogs first .
Many a trainer would of slung this greyhound in " hoping " it would keep qualifying . Punters would all be waiting till it got knocked out and ready to lump on over 6 bends . The dogs running over his trip and credit to Lister .

We'll have to agree to disgaree then . I think he would keep qualifying and not just running on for third either . It's a big mistake from the kennel imo , even though i hope and believe he may be best 6 bend dog about ( i@ve bet him @ 9-2 for the regency ) . And as i said , forget 8 bends , this is no marathon dog and never will be .

The Hove 695 metre trip is a difficult trip for wide runners that need to lead early. The contours of the track and the position of the traps so close to the bend, does not allow early paced dogs to show their true early pace. They always have to ping the lids which doesn't often happen. Have seen too many slightly miss the kick and get shuffled back through the field round the first two turns and been unable to show their early-pace.. Think these short runs to the bend races are a nightmare and throw up too much inconsistency. A better idea for more consistent racing would be to run from the 740 boxes and have a shorter run-in with a second winning line. But we all know that is not going to happen :-(

Thanks EH yes appreciate what you're saying but DB appeared to have every chance off the second bend; just showed very little pace.then ducked in at third forced to check wide and then showed nothing. Strongly agree long run up is ideal and like your suggestion..short run up does tend to turn race into something of a lottery :)
