Starts tomorrow night. Is Blonde Fern a good thing?Looks classiest dog in race by some way to me. Don't know if 9/2 is still available? Maybe a saver on Lynnwood Bolt very fast away...not out of the frame very often. Any locals know how Jem racing are currently pricing these two.

9/2 fern 10 Bolt i think. Was in RP today.
Report Man From Atlantis March 1, 2010 7:52 PM GMT
Yes LTS saw that but wondered if it has changed during the day...may take a trip down there tomorrow night and watch the heats. Do you have any fancies for the competition?
Report LoveTheShoes March 1, 2010 8:06 PM GMT
Blonde Fern race is tricky, 4 5 and 6 all big runners, 3 has lots of early and the 2 runs middle to wide on the run up. 1 dog completly plotted up.

Comp looks fairly tricky on the hole but a good friend of mine at the track tells me there is a nappo on the graded system!
Report Man From Atlantis March 1, 2010 8:25 PM GMT
Thanks LTS I think you're right Blonde Fern is going to have to get away well or trouble awaits. Might keep my money in my pocket until I see how Blonde Fern runs the track. Not briliant sectional in trial but should come on for first sighter I guess. Not sure what you mean about Nappo and graded system (?) can you explain please probably being very thick!
Report LoveTheShoes March 1, 2010 8:59 PM GMT
Reports i got from a few judges ther regarding Blonde Fern is that it took to the track and the first bend very well. 27.06 is a fair time for a first look.. Hard heat that one but will all depend on the break. But as i said earlier trap 1 is very well drawn.

Nap in the graded - There is a 'very good thing' running in one of the graded races apparently.

If i see you down there (thats if i get away from work early enough) il mark your card!

GL.

At the moment thinking might take a flyer with Lynnwood Bolt can probably lead anything in comp and local knowledge should be useful. If can qualify for the final in with every chance of winning. Also three wides in one of the heats I think (RP website down at mo so can't check) Likley to be one of few wide seeds to be left after first round. Got my doubts about Blonde Fern getting through first heat maybe drawn for trouble with three early paced dogs inside MUST come way imo.

Competition not as strong as the last one down there. Fern is the best dog in the comp if getting a clear run but that is rare around Poole.

She may struggle to clear doitfordawn inside her if he comes away like he can. Wouldnt fancy the 1 in the race. Between fern and dawn for me.

Lynwood Bolt looks to have a good shout in the 1st heat altho he has gotta lead off 2nd. Seanis Lad would be a cert if he was drawn closer to rails in his heat.

Local knowledge is a HUGE advantage...
Report Man From Atlantis March 2, 2010 1:34 PM GMT
Do you think Lynnwood Bolt has got the early pace to compete off the second bend? Not seen hm run before just looking at race cards although appears only gets in 'trouble' when he doesn't come away in best fashion.
Report LoveTheShoes March 2, 2010 4:19 PM GMT
MFA Lynwood Bolt one of fastest early paced dogs at the track, if not the fastest.
Report Man From Atlantis March 2, 2010 10:38 PM GMT
Just come home from watching the heats.

The best early pace by far appears to have been in Heat one (Looking at sectionals) . Any of the first three dogs would have led up any of the other heats I suspect. Lynwood Bolt can probably break 3/4 of a length faster but will need to if Blonde Alonso is on his inside again. BA turned a half length deficit out of the boxes into a half length advantage over the six and four only to run wide off the second bend. This prevented the six from cutting the first bend, but did cut in off the second bend and showed good pace to the third bend. Disappointingly faded on run in, so seemingly must lead to have any chance of winning final (but I think we knew that already!)
Bleinhiem Regal took advantage of BA going wide at the second bend to come home in front.

In heat two Trap 4 Kurious Incident outrapped the whole field by a length and took advantage of crowding at the first bend to skate clear of the field. I don't think KI incident can improve on it's sectional of 4.33 because it was a length out of the traps when they were only 1/4 open! A good perfomance but may struggle against the likes of Lynwood Bolt for early pace. (We'll have to wait and see on that one!)

Can't really say much more about the other dogs from heat two because of crowding at first. May be more to come don't know (?)

As suggested Blonde Fern was unable to qualify from heat 3; but to be fair ran a good race after missing the break. The five dog Doitfordawn showed excellent pace to the second bend where Trap 1 Mays Rocknroller briefly took over the lead but by half way there was nothing in it and T5 took over to win easily. Well noted LTS trap one certainly was given a great run to and round the first bend.

To be fair I don't think there is a great deal to take out of Heat four. Three Blakes Saint showed the best early and just held on from the fast finishing Trap 1 Miss Crispys (crowded in the sense that didn't appear to be able to stride out fully around bends thre and four) and then ran on well up the home straight. Urban Crash T2 also finshed witha flourish. I don't think the comp winner will come from this heat (but we'll see)

Did you manage to make it to watch the heats LTS? PS what was the nap you were referring to? Hope you had a good night if you made it. I had my antepost bet on Lynnwood Bolt at 8/1 then sat in the resturant and watched the racing. Pleasnat night. Now please don't put Blonde Alonso inside mine in the semis!!!
Report Man From Atlantis March 2, 2010 10:56 PM GMT
Thats not bloody fair the three best ealy pacers in the second semi final. Same makeup as in heat. Just bad luck I guess. I have to hope that LB flies out of the traps and serves it up to them this time, but couldn't have asked for worst make up!!! And with very fast trapper in three. $H1T
Report Man From Atlantis March 2, 2010 10:57 PM GMT
Very fast trapper in two actually!!

The draw for Saturday's two semi-finals is as follows.

1 Urban Crash, 2 Blakes Saint, 3 Blonde Playboy, 4 Iceman Joss, 5 Glynnscross Mal (M), 6 Doitfordawn (W)

1 Mays Rocknroller, 2 Kurious Incident, 3 Miss Crispys, 4 Blenheim Regal (M), 5 Blonde Alonso (M), 6 Lynnwood Bolt (W)

From RP

Initial reaction Doitfordawn best draw to qualify bags of pace in the second semi
Report RichVicary March 3, 2010 8:12 AM GMT
Who do you own MFA, if you don't mind me asking ?

Doitfor dawn ran well and showed good back straight pace to take it up by the 3rd. Is now the fav for comp I believe.

Thought Miss Crispys ran well too. If she doesn't make final will she return for a 6 bend open as the way she pulled round to the pickup looked like she'd stay it.

Hope to have our other girl on the supporting card for the final, in the sprint. A couple of decent trials, doing 15.08 and 15.09 coming back from season.
Report Man From Atlantis March 3, 2010 8:29 AM GMT
RV I don't own any of the runners! When I say 'mine' I'm referring to Lynnwod Bolt on which I've had an antepost bet.Noticed your youtube uploads last night (?) are you planning to upload last nights heats can i ask? Not suprised that Doitfordawn is now favourite. Can I ask which dogs you're involved with? I'm not a regular at Poole half a dozen times a year mainly for opens. Used to own dogs at Pompey 15-20 years ago. Don't enjoy it so much these days as bookies on course offer such poor value...can remember when Ross Jackson made a sound book at Pompey. I'm offline for a while maybe catch up later. Didn't notice the good sprint trials. What were the dogs concerned? GL
Report RichVicary March 3, 2010 9:08 AM GMT
Ah got ya now. I'll get a copy of the dvd on Friday from the track and get the videos sorted.

We own Farloe Orchid who runs at Poole, so hoping we get on for the finals night. I'd hope she would have a chance of getting in given her recent trials.

Bolt's a nice dog, really hope he does it for Graham Cleverly. Was desperate in the last big race down there, doing 4.25-4.30 splits in heats then had an absolute doomer and fell out on his nose and went up in 4.86 in final! Capable of going one better if getting the luck.

cheers

RV Good luck with FO and your other dogs. Hope you get a spot on finals night. Thanks for info on the videos and promising to post them on youtube. I do keep a quiet eye on the A1 results from Poole so obviously recognise your dog! Can't make the semis but hope to get down for the final should be a good night.

MFA some good news for you mate.

Blonde Alonso drawn inside your dog has been withdrawn :)
Report Man From Atlantis March 5, 2010 7:59 AM GMT
Thanks for the new LTS that will dramatically improve LBs chances in the semi! Still needs to come away but has pace to lead with reasonable break now, doesn't need a flyer. Fingers crossed! Have you backed anything for the comp LTS?
Report LoveTheShoes March 5, 2010 10:27 AM GMT
MFA havent had a bet ante post no. Found it fairly hard comp to find any value and the sponsors imo priced it up very well.

Lynwood with a level break should go round withh the 4 dog i just think the only way it cant qualify is if it misses the lids now. No trap 5 is a massive advantage now.

The last open comp a few of the locals really fancied Lynwood Bolt in the final and it missed the break by about 12 lengths!

If i had to have a bet now it would be Lynwood just strictly on the draw it has in its semi.
Report Man From Atlantis March 5, 2010 3:54 PM GMT
Thanks LTS gone from 'couldn't hope for a worst draw' to 'couldn't hope for a better draw' in one moment!

Only had a £25 win @ 8/1 but getting maximum enjoyment by discussing on-line with you guys. And getting to the track for a night. Thanks for your informed opinions and general enthusiasm. If LB makes the final then mission accomplished! Very good chance now.

Cheers RV ....thanks for videos just watched them..smooth victory for LB...lets hope for better break in the final this time!!! Has FO got a spot in the sprint for Friday? If so all the best of luck...saw a video of her winning an open race at Swindon..is she best suited to a rails pitch at Poole or maybe 2 or 3 just had a look at form and coudn't tell for sure?
Report RichVicary March 10, 2010 8:43 PM GMT
Hi MFA - FO got accepted for the sprint, she's in T2 outside the winner of the open last week but looks to have a bit of time in hand if coming away well enough. Couple of other decent types in there too.

We like her in 1 or 2 tbh, but the RO kept putting her in the middle draw as she tends to drift slightly on run up but cuts bends. She'd run through a brick wall so god help anything on her outsude or in her way at the bend!

Good luck with LB - hope you're drawing come Friday !
Report Man From Atlantis March 10, 2010 10:35 PM GMT
Good stuff RV hope you're on the podium Friday!
Report Man From Atlantis March 11, 2010 10:08 PM GMT
Thoughts on the final.

T1 Can come away quicker but judging on both performances here and at other tracks doesn't have the pace to lead T2

T2 Has been very consistent throughtout. Judging on Romford form may be capable of flyer; preferred over T1 to the bend. May be able to lead the inside. Came from behind T4 in semis. Appeared to stay better although finishing time same as heat.

T3 Broke well in semi but well outpaced to the bend by T5; even with similar break unlikely to turn second this time. Needs to in order to win I think.

T4 Ultra consistent at Poole. Needs to lead to win imo. Comprehensively outpaced by T6 in the semi final, but if T6 fluffs it's lines at the lids appears the obvious choice to do just that. Moved off from traps in semi; may do again(?)

T5 Showed good early pace to lead T3 in the semifinal; has shown good pace to the bend in open company before. Surrounded by two best early pacers in final. Tricky draw but wouldn't discount completely.

T6 Showed excellent early pace in the semi-final to lead T4 after losing 1/2 length out of the traps. With best break will be very difficult to beat.

Would I take Ev about T6; the answer has to be NO. Concerns about T5 or T2 getting much improved breaks would concern me. Especially if T5 gets a flyer which I wouldn't discount. If T5 moves to the middle which is also possible then that may not be a problem infact it would play into the hands of T6.

At the prices posted earlier think the value lies with T2 to hit the leads and lead on the inside believe it will prove difficult to pick up if doing so especially if there is any trouble between T4,5 & 6. T6 still the most likely winner but price should be more like 6/4 not evens imo. GL to all; any comments; observations would be appreciated!
Report Man From Atlantis March 12, 2010 8:35 AM GMT
If I made a book on race would look something like this

1 Blonde Playboy 8/1
2 Mays Rocknroller 9/2
3 Urban Crash 8/1
4 Blenheim Regal 9/2
5 Iceman Joss 14/1
6 Lynnwood Bolt 6/4

Hands up who would like me to stand at Poole!
Report LoveTheShoes March 12, 2010 5:36 PM GMT
MFA id like to be taking the 6 dog on at evens aswell tbh, has to go round infront to win anyway.

I fancy the 1 dog at the prices.
Report Man From Atlantis March 12, 2010 5:51 PM GMT
I notice Mr K tipped it up in the RP but I'm afraid I can't see it; all best form seems to be at galloping tracks like Hove, Nottingham &**over longer trips. In against essentally sprinters here; having said that will probably brush everything aside at the first bend and romp home!

PS Thanks for your comments earlier in the thread which helped me decide to back LB and give BF the elbow.

I'll likely have a saver on the two dog which I quite fancy at 5/1

If you're there tonight goodluck with whatever you go with.

Hi MFA,

Sorry for delay in replying. Just uploading the final onto gdata as I type. He ran a great race. Really pleased for Graham and Mary who thoroughly deserve the victory.

Well done on your AP best !

FO - As you say, tardy start, slowly into stride but when she got going she looked to be moving well. Swap the boxes over and she'd gone through them all at 1st and would, imo, of taken the race. But hey ho, thats dogs, she's off sound and will be trialling over 4 bends in next 10-14 day and starting her way back properly.

re video:; I'm not too sure who the guy is, I don't have a programme to hand either. I'll try and find a contact number and post up for you.

Thanks Rich thats brilliant; great to see it again! Don't worry about details for DVD/video. I just wanted to show the race to some of my mates. So having it posted is job done!

Didn't mention it before (didn't want to tempt fate) but also had antepost on Outandgoodnight last year so up to now 100% record on the comp!(It can't last)

Perhaps FO will be up for it next year!
Back next year for another go all being well. Look forward to another constructive discussion on the forum. I'll keep an eye on FO and if I get a chance pop down to see her run.

Bye for now
