OWGR rank each Tournament for strength of field. Fortinet 235  BMW-PGA 221.
BMW had 5 of top 15 in field.  Fortinet had 5 of top 46. There is definitely something wrong here.
About to e-mail OWGR for explanation. European players are being shafted.

The way points are calculated is now based on the strength of the total field. It used to only be those in the top 200.

The DP tour fields are filled with loads of players well down the world rankings and have been stealing points for years. The new system simply reflects the strength of field. With the new strategic alliance and the best ten players heading for the PGA tour from next year this will only get worse especially if they eventually ban the LIV players.

However they calculate the strength of field the Fortinet can never be a higher class tournament than the BMW.

It can if the players are better.

Mcilroy, Rahm, Hovland, Fitzpatrick and Horschel played in the BMW.  Name 5 players as good as these that played in the Fortinet.

Dont worry about those ranked in the hundreds, they are all the same. They rarely get anywhere near winning.

The OWGR is based on the total strength of field not just a handful of stars at the BMW half the field were ranked below 200 and a quarter below 400.

For the DP tour it was a strong field hence the 38 points just not as strong as a relatively week PGA tour event. It just shows the strength of depth in America.

This week for the Open de France it is 19 points to the winner below some korn ferry tour events.

With the defections to LIV and the brain drain of talent to the PGA tour each year this will probably become a downward spiral. The DP Tour is in a difficult place right now.

The Asian Tour is getting significant investment so if LIV get points it is probably in danger of going from the second best tour to fifth in terms of OWGR points.

The reason the europeans are ranked so low is because they have been shafted for years.

Drive is correct the DP World is in a tough spot. The sad reality is that a glorified Korn Ferry field for the start of the PGA wrap around season has a stronger field than the european tour's flagship event (it would have been even worse had the 17 LIV players not been allowed to tee it up).

The last 20 years up until this year has seen the PGA Tour become a juggernaut attracting the best in the world especially since the inception of the play offs. In 2000 there were 3 europeans (Garcia, Parnevik & Van De Velde) in the top 125 on the PGA Tour last year that number rose to 15 with another 8 in the top 200. Add in those playing on LIV and a number on the Korn Ferry tour and you can see the drift.

It isn't just europeans. There were 23 international players with a PGA Tour card in 2000 that figure was 96 in 2022 with again lots of internationals on the Korn Ferry. Many of these players historically would have played in Europe.

The points on offer in Europe are a reflection of the current standard. It will be tough for up and coming players to crack the top 100 or top 50 by playing in Europe and the chances of someone emulating Monty getting to world number 2 playing on the DP Tour are none existent. The one plus for the players on the DP world is each year ten will get a tour card in America and half a million dollars upfront which will at least allow them to get a decent back up team in place.

The DP world missed the boat not partnering up with LIV and will do well to maintain sponsors for regular events at the current level. The new PGA schedule will hurt them as it is unlikely they will get any stars before September each year with the exception of maybe the two events in the middle east.
