Great field this year and nice to see a couple of the high profile Americans stay on for it.
Very tricky knowing how the Ryder Cup players will fare as they must be knackered, but feel more inclined to leave the Europeans out of this, as they will have had a mad few days.
Im going to make Finau my main bet. Was one of the better American players last weekend, has a very impressive Open record of 18-27-9 (the last one coming at Carnoustie which is a bonus). You'd expect St Andrews would really suit him down to the ground as well. Struggling to see why he's almost twice the price of Brooks tbh.
Going to leave the rest of the Ryder Cup lads out of it. Sticking with my cliff horse Eddie Pepperrell who has gone well here recently and also did so well at the Open at Carnoustie this year. Even though 25/1 seems very skinny in this field.
Final two are Erik Van Rooyen at 60/1... another who seems to excel on Links Courses and had a good Open Championship, and lastly Joakim Lagergren at a whopping 80/1. Has won already this year and has a phenomenal record in this event... two top fives and a 12th in the last three years. His recent two outings have admittedly been shocking, but hopefully Links golf sparks a revival.

Shambles as usual for this event - you’d have thought, given the focus on golf after last week, they’d get their acts together. Still, why did I ever think it was gonna be any different.

Came back to tease us for a minute.Surprised Brooks made par at 1 ,betting suggested bogey.

There are people on course. They generally follow the market leaders.
Great when you back them after a birdie that only you know about ,what happens when they double the next and no fecker knows ?
Liquidity dropped out of regular events in-play when there’s no TV coverage years ago, you know that frames.

I'll put that scoring second only to Dredge all those years ago if correct.
tyrell must have a great chance of the "hatton hattrick", not everyone takes to this style of golf...

Nice round from Finau at Carnoustie today. Hope he stays in the mix tomorrow.
Shame another lady was hit, hard lines getting hit by a pro. I'm surprised more aren't hit at this event as folk stand in the same places as all-pro events yet some of the amateurs are wild things. Had a laugh at J.P. McManus a few years ago. From the 18th tee at St. Andrews he smacked his ball into the second floor window of one of the posh terraced houses on the right. He strolled all the way up the fairway as if nothing had happened, voiding his card. I suppose he can afford to leave his balls behind. I'd have been in amongst the patios looking for it.

coverage of this by sky seems pretty feeble, no live play till 1pm (which presumably will feature lots of inteviews with the likes of piers morgan) by which time the current leader tyrell hatton will be close to finishing.
was thinking the same,no cut till after round 3. don't see why the leaders can't go out last at each course.

scoring around st andrews seems too easy for these guys now. too many short holes that are too easy to reach for the modern golfer. koepka about to go seven under on the round, fleetwood also seven under, hatton six under.

Shot gun start at 8-30 they are saying.Makes a mockery of early/late starters getting the better conditions.
is it just me or is fleetwood much better at coming from off the pace? when he's actually up there, either tied for the lead or one or two shots off, he seems fairly hopeless.

Great play from Lucas. Backed him start of the week and had pretty much given up when Hatton went 4 up. Just shows you never know...

OWGR #92 Lucas Bjerregaard posted 14 of his last 16 rounds in the 60s coming into to this event - on one of his streaks to post finishes of 20-2-6-9-wd in his last five starts. BUT two MCs in the Irish and Scottish Opens recently and three straight early exits here - all suggested that links golf was not the Dane's fav terrain[/i] - he was even Tindall's 'One To Swerve' - "Lucas Bjerregaard has plenty of good recent form but this style of golf is [i]usually a struggle for him".[/i]

Relying on weather forecasts always dodgy ,if they can be trusted looks like the worst weather is day 1.
Would you rather play the easier courses in the worst weather or Carnoustie ? I have it in my head I would not want to be on Carnoustie,all the big names are there tomorrow.

Nearly impossible to watch on sky, 6 hr rounds, endless "celeb" interviews etc.. Still though will have a bet and watch the Sandersons featured groups on red button.

Rose and Timberlake being interviewed there ,Rose comments about the 3rd where his partner played his 4th to near Rose's ball instead of going for the hole and then putts to show him the line.Rose follows in for eagle ,teamwork he called it.
Not watching and don't know if there's any rules about that but that sounds a bit iffy. Maybe ok in a pure team event but certainly a bit off when there's a big individual comp at stake.
Substitute "Kuchar" for "Rose" and see how well that goes down.
It was not on camera as far as I know so don't know how long the putt was or how far out of his way Timberlake chip was to leave his ball on Rose's line.It just did not sound very sporting ,be interesting to hear Luke Donalds description of it.
Yeah, might be a bit of fun for those two, but JT shouldn't be interfering in the pro event in any way, there's guys up there looking for a life-changing win. Rose should've known better than to let him, and certainly to boast about it after.

Considering the fuss that's made of things like backstopping I'm surprised a bit more hasn't really been made of this. JT clearly having an unfair influence on the outcome of the pro event.

Pre tourneys out with the washing unless a minor miracle,added Finau at 14's, 2 days at St Andrews, which has been the easiest scoring so far.
Set up nice for a Sunday shoot out, with most of the amateurs sitting in the clubhouse, wide open, happy enough were Finau is and hoping for a 67 from Pod to nab a top 20.
and still more coverage of mCilroy than the rest, just because he and daddy might win the team event.
