The big hitting Dane Lucas Bjerregaard thrashed a 6-under-par 34-31=65 in RD1 of the Rocco Forte Open at Verdura Golf Club in Sicily - which featured seven birdies and a slightly frustrating walk-off bogey - posting a two-shot clubhouse lead over Scott Fernandez, Daniel Brooks, Marcus Armitage and Andy Sullivan after the morning session. While this is his first start at the Sicilian venue, LUCAS, T6th in the Volvo China Open two weeks ago, shooting 66-64 on the weekend, does have some good form in the region having finished third at the 2015 Italian Open and T20 the following year.

LEADER now joined by 31yo Englishman RYAN EVANS at minus 6 with 33-32=65 on a more blustery afternoon than the morning conditions - Sitting #115th on the RtoD, his season form reads 46th, mc, 34, 21, 61, 53 & 33 as he makes his debut here, the highlight being an eagle at the par-5 ninth (his final hole). This is only his second 18-hole lead/shared lead on the European Tour. His first was after a 66 in the 2016 Czech Masters where he finished T3.

The Kyle Phillips designed par 71 (composite course of the two 18's) at Verdura Golf Club is playing host to the European Tour for only the third time - 2012 when Thorbjorn Olesen won the Sicily Open and 2017 when the Spaniard Alvaro Quiros, who entered the final day five shots clear of the field, 'EVENTUALLY' prevailed in a play-off against Zander Lombard.
