Morning all. So after a whole week of it's nearly time to get going again! I'm guessing most people who have read my threads over last two years know how it all works by now but just in case anyone is reading this for the first time I'll briefly re cap.
I'll pick 4 or 5 players each week, normally 5 depending on size of the field, and will look to post these selections Monday PM/Early Evening or Tues AM at latest depending on when most/all firms prices are up. The prices I post will be best available at the time of posting with high street firms. Normally selections will be e/w & I'll make clear what e/w terms I'm taking [first 5, first 6 etc]. I'll also make clear how many points I'm staking. I'll then post the following Monday the results from the week giving a running total each week for the season showing where I am re profit/loss etc for season. Those that have been following over the past couple of seasons will know that we've made a combined profit over the 2yrs of about 35pts. Not enough to retire on obviously but it sure beats losing!
In addition to the main selections each week I shall then also post a 'one to trade' selection on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the event, which is basically a player I don't necessarily think is a possible winner or even likely to place but I think will 'go well' at least for a round or two & will therefore offer a good trading opportunity. Unless it is a limited field event this player will be trading at 200 plus at the time of selection.
The target for them is to then trade at least a quarter of this price during the event. My tactics with the trader is to lay back 3 x times my initial stake if/when the player hits the target price meaning I have doubled my money if they hit this price whilst still having a decent chunk green to trade some more or let ride if they get right in the mix in the event.
To give a simple example if say I had £10 on a player at 200 this would obviously give a £2000 green. If I then lay £30 at 50 I have a guaranteed £20 profit whilst still having a £500 green left on the player.
To be honest I was disappointed with how the traders fared in 16/17 compared to the previous yr [where 2 of them actually won] & the best performance came from Poulter at Sawgrass who went very well for us at a very big price. Hopefully we'll fare better on the trader this year.
Finally as I'm sure most of you who read this are aware I post my picks on twitter each week as well, sometimes before on here. In addition I also post updates & useful info where possible through the week so if you're not already following me on twitter & are able to please do so. @sundogmonkey
As always thanks thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this & here's to a profitable season! First selections for the Safeway Open will be up later tomorrow/Tues AM.

Thanks JML and thanks for reading. You make a fair point re prices. What I basically look to ensure each week is that the prices I put up are available with one of the leading 5 or 6 firms and I double check them just before posting.
Beyond this not much more I can do and it's inevitable that some if not most will get cut as the week goes on particularly in a high profile week like this week.
With regards to going for the 10 places e/w as I am often picking bigger priced players I prefer to get the most e/w places available, which obviously leads to slightly shorter odds. Some of my readers may prefer anyway to go for the bigger prices with less places & from a P&L point of view over a season this may well even itself out.
I also do my best every week to get my preview out on Mon evening so that the value is still there.
Anyway moving on here are my picks for First Round Leader.

What's the point of this thread especially now that you only post links to your site?
I think that anyone intrested in your tips will know how to find them.
You advertise monday morning prices, prices that bookmakers are very wary about and it will only take one medium size bet for them to change.
So we have prices that only one or two will be able to get and yet you're still showing a loss for this year.

Barracuda ChampionshipHere is my preview for the Barracuda Championship.http://sundogsgolfworld.com/sundogs-latest-golf-tips/2018/07/31/the-barracuda-championship/
Firstly I should just point out that I am not running at a loss for the season. The P&L which i clearly update everyweek shows that I am currently 70+pts in profit. Not to be sneezed at!
I take your point re the continuation of the thread & I am interested in other peoples views on this. If you do look back over this seasons thread I have had several positive comments. I was/am intending to review this at the end of the season though.
As for the prices I post I put the best prices available from high st bookies [e.g Coral, PP etc] at the time of posting. I always look to the post the thread as early as possible on Monday so that poeople can get the best price & I don't see there is much more I can do.
Thanks again for your comments & please do take the time to double check my P&L!!

Mahan Posting early on Monday ensures that only one or two will get on.These are your Barracuda tips--Swafford 66/1 Laird 40/1 Mahan 80/1 Crane 125/1 All with C0rals.
Both Laird and Mahan were both best price and best place terms with C0rals so were moved to 25/1 and 50/1.
Anyone using C0rals just to back under such favourable circumstances would soon be shown the door.
And how much do you think C0rals would take on Crane at 125/1? On such a minor betting event on Tuesday lunchtime I reckon £20e/w would move the price.
Like most other tipsters what you are offering is "fantasy world" tipping. Only works in theory.
A blind man using a pin and avoiding the 999/1 shots should't lose more than 3% on the Betfair win market.
You'd think that anyone with their own tipping site would be able to beat the blind man by more than 3%.
Only one rule--You must be able to win £10K at the advised price.

The guy is taking his own spare time to put together interesting write ups for every PGA event. Even if you don't want to follow his selections, it's still a good read, and it's also completely free. It's not anyone's problem but yours if you can't get a bet laid to the stake you want, your local bookie doesn't do the same e/w terms or if you've missed prices that were previously available. Clearly the selections chosen are based on the market prices at the time of writing. If prices have shortened by the time you read, then use your own judgement whether you still think they're value or not. Honestly, I don't really understand your beef here. The golf forum is a ghost town as it is. Criticising posts that you're free to ignore instead just seems churlish.

Thanks for your support Fish in Chips & I'm glad you're still enjoying the previews.
JML I don't really understand your point or logic in taking a snapshot of a certain part of a season to look @ P&L. We all know golf betting is a long term game & this is the only way to look at it. I could just as easily take a couple of months here or there & say I was 100+pts up over this period.
I am currently +73.53 points up for the 2017/18 season.
I ran the thread for the 2016/17 season on this forum posting the picks directly before I had launched the site & I finished the season +61.25pts in profit.
The first season I ran the thread was 15/16 & I unfortunately finished -21.13 pts
This means over almost three seasons I am approx 115pts up which I do not think is too bad. After all we all know the statistics of what % of punters are winning ones.
As for the prices, again I don't know what else I can do. I understand that not everyone may get on at a price I suggest but as Fish In Chips says you then have to use your judgement. In relation to my tips for the Barracuda Laird & Mahan were basically cut across the board as I believe Ben Coley tipped them as well. This is obviously not in my control.
Do Corals betting shops offer the same prices? To be honest I have absolutely no idea. As for being able to win £10k. Surely you can see that 95% of the people who will read my previews & follow my tips [or that of any other golf tipster] are people who just like to have £10 e/w for some enjoyment to follow over the weekend just as they probably may have £10 on Salah to score first on a Sunday afternoon etc & if I can help make a typical punter like this' weekend by winning them £500+ on a 50-1 shot then great.
I understand that if someone followed my tips religiously they may not always be able to get on at the price initially on offer & that therefore they may not get the same P&L. Equally though someone might choose to back my tips on the exchange & potentially trade a profit when a big one is available.
If anyone had backed Hossler or Si Woo Kim at the 3 fig prices I put them up at earlier this season [I'm sure they were much bigger on the exchange] they could have traded a huge profit on either of these guys when they went massively odds on [before agonisingly failing at the end] & this again is not in the P&L obviously so it's swings & roundabouts.
I am pleased to say that the feedback I get on the site & my previews [which is largely on social media] is almost 100% positive & I am getting well over a 1000 hits a week & growing all the time.
As Fish In Chips says it's obviously free & very time consuming to put together so it's great to get this feedback.
I am always open to constructive criticism and will consider any suggestions that any one has to how I can improve things, however ultimately as Fish In Chips says if you don't like my previews or feel the info or selections aren't helpful you can just choose not to read it.
We all know golf tipping/punting is hard so I hope you are having a good season & I wish you the best of luck for the rest of it.

"As long as it stays free" suggests that I'm not alone in thinking that sundogmonkey isn't going to all this trouble out of the goodness of his heart.
sorry missed your post system99You're as entitled to your opinion as anyone else is."As long as it stays free" suggests that I'm not alone in thinking that sundogmonkey isn't going to all this trouble out of the goodness of his heart.
Guilty as charged JML, yes of course I am trying to spread the word of my website & ultimately I hope more people will stumble across it through my thread on here.
As System99 says it is a free site so I don't see why anyone would begrudge that.
Whilst I am happy to post the info on here I don't have the time to re type out my previews so yes I am going to post a link.
Before your feedback I had already decided that at the end of this PGA season I would invite people to say if they still wanted me to run the thread next season & unless I got 20+ people saying so I would not continue for next season.
As I am sure you can see the thread has had over 12,000 views this season & this increases every week on the thread so I guess some people take advantage of it rather than going straight to the site.
Re 'high st bookies', apologies I used the phrase not specifically because I go to these bookmakers 'high st' shops but to imply that basically when I post prices I am going by the best price offered by a well known firm showing on oddschecker, e.g Hills, Lads, PP, Bet 365, BetFred, Skybet, Unibet etc as opposed to going with the price, which may be offered by say 10bet or SportPesa [to name but 2 who show on Oddschecker] whom I have never used, know nothing about & I doubt many average punters use.

Nothing to hide here guys, the more people who view the site moving forward & [assuming I stay in profit] spread the word the more the potential is for someone one day to maybe offer me a 'paid gig' doing their tips. Particularly with the impending opening up of the sports betting market in the US. We can but dream!
Also, unlike a lot of tipping sites I have deliberately chosen not to try & set up affiliate schemes with bookies by putting links to them on the site, as A, I don't really trust them & B, ethically I don't want to encourage people to lose money by joining PP, Corals [just as examples] etc to get "20 free spins!" so that I can get a %. I am trying to help people win money not lose it!
If the site got more popular though to the extent that the right company [say a golf clothing/equipment/holiday company] were happy to sponsor to advertise on the site I would of course consider that as anyone in my situation would.

Several people have already said I should do & that they would be happy to pay JML but no it isn't. I believe in 'give to gain'.
FFS do you expect any one to believe that.
Ben Crane was still 125/1 with C0rals 7 hours after you tipped. Hudson Swafford is still 66/1 now.
So we have several people begging to give you money in exchange for your tips, but hardly anyone backing them when they are for free.

JML Your a right misery man. Nothing positive to say about anything. Clearly a fabulous pro gambler or something akin though. yawn.
Keep up the work monkey, hope works out for you.

Sorry JML I give up, it appears I am 'dammed if I do, dammed if i don't' with you. If swathes of people had backed my tips & they had shortened you would be moaning about that, [like u were with Mahan & Laird who shortened as they were tipped elsewhere] however because I am 'small fry' & obviously do not have the readership/following of a Palmer or Coley & therefore the few people who may have backed Swafford or Crane on my advice have not 'moved the odds' you are unhappy about that!
I do appreciate your feedback & thank you but I don't feel i've got anything more I can add now.
Trebor, thank you for reading & thank you for your support!

Sorry if making a profit isn't enough for you,but I know very little about golf,so writing a blog is out of the question.
I'm just making another point that showing a profit under the same conditions as sundogmonkey uses doesn't require any superior golfing knowledge.

Have been since 1991. And as such I regard you all as my customers and will do all I can to protect you from chancers.
Just give me an year and see if I can show a profit.

Would be thought as a pro gambler since 1991 your time would be better spent elsewhere!
But hey what would I know.
Don't know much about golf, just dig people out on an anonymous gambling forum about GOLF.LOL...

i think we all know about the problems of getting matched with books
and i've often used the counter argument that racing post take wednesday prices.
good luck to all tipsters and anybody that sticks their tips on here even if it is just a link to another free sire
there are other tipsters who charge, some of them have posted on here too over the years, and all added to our chat and discussions.
some of the prices on betfair are better than thise available at books,
but spotting the ricks on a monday or tuesday isnt quite as easy if you know nothing about golf !!!

How dare you Donny---I never said that I knew nothing about golf.
My sporting knowledge has gone from being able to answer every question on some episodes of "question of sports" in the 70s to now not to being able to answer any on some episodes.
Generally speaking the prices on the Betfair win market are better than you'll get with bookmakers.
I expect the win part of my bet to show a loss although over such a small sample size(about 200 selections?)anything is possible.
The mathematics is that if I place 1000 £1e/w bets I'd expect the win part to lose about £65 so I need to win more than that on the place part.

can you confirm you are using the word "ricks" to mean mistakes?
i use it all the time but have recently found out that 99% of people don't have a clue and never heard of it!!

jml, i never meant that you had no knowledge of golf, ito would score highly if they repeated 1970s episodes of aqos, ,...and struggle to even recognise the star guests in the current series...

BMW Championship Trader PickHere is my BMW preview updated with this weeks trader pick.Good luck all for the week!http://www.sundogsgolfworld.com/sundogs-latest-golf-tips/2018/09/04/bmw-championship/
One strong stat this week is that 10 of the 11 winners of the BMW had posted a top ten in one of the first two play-off events.
A total of 18 players had met that requirement ahead of this week. If we combine that trend with the stat that every winner of this tournament was no worse than seventh after any round, we have just two players who tick both. Yes, folks, your winner this week is either Justin Thomas (currently T4, T8 at Northern Trust) or Billy Horschel (currently T4, T3 Northern Trust). They’re 7/1 and 25/1 heading into round two.

See a chap named Martin Mathews (aka, our very own "sundogmonkey") is now the so-called 'tipster' for the SPORTING LIFE GOLF section.
GOD HELP HIM !.....he's on a 7-week losing streak return......poor fcuckers last "W" was a 25/1 shot last September...... lookin like he's going down the Suwannee just as fast as ashleigh's (Steve) PALMER thread
Down the Arnie PALMER route this week - he's put the cobblers on Bryson 18's, An 40's & Wyndy Clark 80's along with (name your price on) Carlos Ortiz, Paddy Rogers & Harry Varner 123..... OMG
