I've played Portstewart a few times, and have a feeling, weather permitting of course, that we will see some very good scores this week. There are so many world class courses in Ireland and its a shame more of the very best ones don't get this event imo. I think this will favour some of the low scorers over the grinders.
Fleetwood clearly in very good nick, but his price looks terrible to me. Surprised Rory is fav, considering his overall record on links courses. Couldn't have him on my mind. Rahm hung in really well last week but might need a few more weeks on these type of courses before he becomes value.
Team of three for me.
Thomas Pieters my main bet. Decent effort again in France last week and feel he is moving in the right direction. Has also some decent links form to his name.
Andy Sullivan looks a good price to my eyes and seems to be getting back to his very best. Definitely seems to enjoy links golf
Shane Lowry as a saver. Poor show last week, but decent efforts prior to that in the US Open and in the BMW. Hoping the Irish air will bring out the best in him. Also backing him to be top Irishman at a very generous looking 5/1.

I am on lowry e/w at 33/1 which looks very big imo not ben in the best of form granted but does bounce back to form and is a fomer Irish open winner im expecting him to put up a good show here and also at the British opem and i agree with Saxon Farmim also on the Albatross bet 14 seems a fair price im on.
One other thing its great to see my wee country Norn Iron hosting another Irish open heres to many more in the future. |

Nice one. Do a lads trip to Ireland every year and heading up north this year (in a few weeks). Playing both courses at Royal County Down, Ardglas and Belvoir Park. Can't wait. What's Newcastle night for a night out? Heard mixed reports!

Justin Walters is a true visionary among mere golfers. A triple on the first, his scorecards are precious collectables, no other golfer could exist with this self-destruct gene that necessitates 10 birdies per round just to break par...I have watched this BS for a decade now and I am seriously thinking of 'taking him to the vet' if you know what I mean.....so much talent and so little success and so little useful guidance...it's going to rain today.

Dooks sums up everything that is great for Ireland for me. Cheap money for a Championship level course in absolutely stunning scenery, with a nondescript little clubhouse serving great Guinness and full of the friendliest people ever!
I know the top courses are very pricey (still all worth it), but there are so many great ones around for very reasonable money. |

We've been going for the past 20 years and had very few really bad days. Do think you get better weather at the Links courses generally.

Just watching Tommy Fleetwood this morning -guy playing well this season, recent winner ..life's good ,eh ?...but his body language is appalling as he slouches around the course a figure of gloom. I mean WTF ?
And another thing -why are so many players wearing all or part black ? Makes for grim viewing all round. |
