Unusual play by me. Backed top 4 placed players in betting after round 1. Definite interest tomorrow morning. Must desist from trading for minute profits. New kid onthe blockfor Irelandand I have to confess it is a learning curve for me to find out more about him.

David Lipsky, Bernd Wiesberger, Alexander Levy & Li Hao Tong filled the 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th spots last year after Fabrizio Zanotti. |

Good start by Levy & Lipsky - just 2 putts off the lead with Peterson & Frittelli another 2 back.
BUT Stenson backers wont be happy with his 72 (T95) ![]() Our favourite Chinaman has left a lot to do this week just to make the cut - Li along with Danny Willett are T133. |

Misses out in Q-School back in November - then 21yo Shubhankar Sharma proceeds to win the Joburg Open (adds T11 in Indonesia) and now the Maybank Champion at Saujana G&CC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (used for the first time last year). The third year the tournament has been part of the European Tour schedule with a prize fund of $3,000,000, it matched those on offer in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, so outside of The Masters and WGCs, it’s the highest purse up for grabs on the European Tour until May’s BMW PGA Championship.
Shubhankar - was also 9th in 2017 (so an 80/1 ew option for Coley in the Sporting Life) - "The last two months have changed my life. I’ve been a member on the Asian Tour for a while and I will continue to be a member on the Asian Tour. I’ve always dreamt of winning and now I’m a two-time winner on the Asian Tour and European Tour." Sharma now qualifies for WGC-Mexico and The Open as he moves to the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings and becomes just the third Indian (after Jeev Milkha Singh and Anirban Lahiri) to win two European Tour events in the same season. 1 SHARMA Shubhankar -21 70 69 66 62 2 CAMPILLO Jorge -19 69 66 66 68 3 FOX Ryan -18 68 68 68 66 3 LARRAZÁBAL Pablo -18 70 70 64 66 5 BERTASIO Nino -16 68 65 70 69 5 FRITTELLI Dylan -16 69 66 66 71 5 ISHIKAWA Ryo -16 74 66 63 69 5 JOSHI Khalin H -16 67 70 65 70 5 TANIHARA Hideto -16 71 64 68 69 CM iyc ![]() |

THE 2019 MAYBANK Championship
THE 2019 MAYBANK Championship Another event from the 'wrong' time-zone ! (and not to be confused with the Maybank Malaysian Open). See Ireland's PADRAIG HARRINGTON makes his debut at this particular event (and his comeback from injury, a broken bone in his wrist, he withdrew from the Honda Classic to give it a few extra weeks in a splint). The 2020 European Ryder Cup Captain says he has "enjoyed this course in the past" - Vijay Singh beat him in a playoff (ffs) - in the 2001 Carlsberg Malaysian Open held at this course - Saujana Golf Club in KL previously hosted that event in 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007 & 2009 - now known as the Maybank Malaysian Open since 2006. ![]() |

Jorge CAMPILLO first bet - in great form with a brace of 2nd's and also 2nd here last year - lets hope no one shoots a 62 Sunday and upsets jonny the trader

BOGEY AVOIDANCE (3 or 4 at most) is the key to this hot and steamy BIRDIE FEST !
A 2015 Ronald Fream re-design with new green complexes since Padraig set foot on here - Saujana Golf and Country Club is a two 18-hole golf complex in the Petaling District of KL - Par 72, 7,200yds parkland with both undulating bermuda fairways & greens. Palm trees line the wide fairways and features strong bunkering & water protection of some greens - Important for Campillo to acclimatise to the conditions too. ![]() |
