does anybody have any stats on the distance of putts holed in total for Kisner in the first round? someone on 5 live suggested he had holed around 250ft, which is huge. Holing 90 or 100ft is considered very good by tour standards

I know he had 22 putts in total, but holed some long ones from what I've heard

Congrats to 27yo Mexican ABRAHAM ANCER, and Aussies Dimitrios Papadatos (Central Coast NSW boy) and Jake McLeod on qualifying for the 'SOLD OUT' 148th OPEN at Royal Portrush (18th-21st July).

ANCER, a star at University of Oklahoma, did compete at Carnoustie this year – his maiden Major outing (after an impressive fourth-place at the Quickens Loan National secured him a spot), but missed the cut in Scotland.
"I’ve been on way too many flights to Europe and come home empty handed. This Open de Portugal trophy has well and truly made up for it!" after his maiden win on the European Challenge Tour last May, but Papadatos, a 3-time winner on the PGA Australasia Tour, was hit hard by disqualification in his pursuit of a 2019 European Tour card in recent weeks. 
It has been a week to remember for McLeod - he followed up a win in the NSW Open at Twin Creeks last Sunday with a third place finish to land the final qualifying place - Jake was also penalised for waiting too long for a birdie putt to drop on the fourth hole on Saturday – so McLeod had quite the week.

The next event in The OPEN Qualifying Series will be the South African Open hosted by The City of Joburg at Randpark from 6-9 December 2018.

Oliver Wilson, Romain Langasque and Masters Champ Charl Schwartzel all secured places in the field in Portrush after the latest Open Qualifying International Series event in South Africa.

26-year-old Shugo Imahira, winner of the Japan Golf Tour Official Money List also qualifies for The 148th Open. South African Shaun Norris, his nearest rival, also qualified courtesy of his second-place finish in the Official Money List race, ensuring he will complete a hat-trick of OPEN appearances at Royal Portrush.

Four places are up for grabs at the 2019 SMBC Singapore Open on 17th/20th January. The Serapong Course in Sentosa, Singapore will once again play host to a field headlined by 2017 Masters Champion and defending champion Sergio Garcia.

The Top 30 in the R2D are also exempt in The OPEN.

Jazz Janewattananond, Yoshinori Fujimoto, Doyeob Mun and Prom Meesawat secured their places at the SMBC Singapore Open, the third event in The Open Qualifying Series.

The 23-year-old from Thailand, Janewattananond posted a fantastic final round 65 that included seven birdies to triumph at the SMBC Singapore Open for the first time, his third and biggest ever win on the Asian Tour and he will now make his second appearance in The Open after Carnoustie last year.
Yoshinori Fujimoto (and Englishman Paul Casey who had already secured his starting berth at Royal Portrush) finished two shots behind Janewattananond in a tie for second place. The 29yo from Japan will also make his second appearance following his debut at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2012.
Matthew Fitzpatrick finished in fourth place on a 14-under-par total of 270 and has already qualified for The Open meaning that Doyeob Mun (Major debut) and Prom Meesawat earned the two remaining qualifying places after completing the tournament in a tie for fifth place. Meesawat made a vital birdie putt on the 72nd hole to qualify for the Championship for the first time since 2011 at Royal St George’s.
The next event in The Open Qualifying Series will be the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill on 7-10 March.

THE ADDED BONUS this week at the 'API' - 3 PLACES available for PORTRUSH - all of the Top Ranked players will already be qualified, so that leaves valuable spots available to those who can fight out for a TOP 10 (and ties) position....worth fighting for !

A total of 46 places in The OPEN are available through 13 worldwide events in this the 5th year of the Qualifying Series, and with 130 DAYS TO GO, 93 players have currently qualified, with 63 places left to fill in the field.

The next event is the Japan Tour's Mizuno Open (2nd June), where four exemptions will be up for grabs to finishers in the Top 12 who are not already exempt.

ON Japan Tour's Mizuno Open on June 2 Yuta Ikeda qualified for next month's OPEN. The Royal Country Club in Ibaraki Prefecture north of Tokyo played to a distance of 8,016 yards in the third round, which is believed to be a record length for a sea level course on any recognized tour. HE finish at seven-under-par 281 for his 21st Japan Tour victory.

The top four finishers qualified which Ikeda will play for the eighth time, and his fifth in a row. American Chan Kim finished second, one shot behind Ikeda, and also punched his ticket to Royal Portrush. South Korean Sang-Hyun Park and Thai Gunn Charoenkul tied for third and also qualified. It will be Charoenkul's first major appearance.

Adam Hadwin and Graeme McDowell secured their places in The 148th OPEN after qualifying at the RBC Canadian Open played at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club

The sixth event in The Open Qualifying Series and the first time that the PGA TOUR event has featured in the Series - three places were available to the leading players who finished in the top 10 and ties who were not already exempt. The Championship was won by 2014 Champion Golfer Rory McIlroy who posted a 22-under-par total of 258 to lift the trophy for the first time. He was already exempt for The Open alongside seven other golfers who finished in the top 10 places, including Shane Lowry, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar, Sungjae Im, Danny Willett and 2016 Champion Golfer Henrik Stenson.

Canada's Hadwin claimed the first available qualifying place after finishing alone in sixth place (ten shots back from McIlroy on a 12-under-par total of 268) and will now take his place in The Open for the third year running after previously qualifying to play at Royal Birkdale and Carnoustie.
GMAC, the Portrush-born 39-year-old, put himself into contention after back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes and sank a 30ft putt for par and clinch the second available qualifying place after finishing in a tie for eighth place on a 10-under-par total of 270.

No golfer was able to claim the third available qualifying place with Sebastian Munoz, Wes Roach and Cameron Tringale narrowly missing out after finishing in a tie for 11th place on a nine-under-par total of 271.

The next event was earlier today - the KOLON Korea Open played at Woo Jeong Hills.
Rising star Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand held his nerves to claim his fourth Asian Tour victory and a second one this season at the 62nd Kolon Korea Open Golf Championship. He will be heading to Royal Portrush with compatriot Dongkyu Jang, who closed with a 72 to finish tied-fourth in the event, which offered two spots to The Open to the leading two players (not otherwise exempt) finishing in the top-eight and ties as part of The Open Qualifying Series.

American Chan Kim, who played on a sponsor’s invitation, marked his best efforts of the week with a closing 68 to settle two shots back of Jazz in third place while Korea’s Minjoon Kim matched his final round efforts to grab a share of fourth on 281. The second qualifying spot went to Jang as he is ranked higher than Kim on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

Regional Qualifying begins tomorrow.....while over 100 spots in the starting field have been filled - Francesco Molinari will hope to defend the title he so brilliantly claimed at Carnoustie a year ago. Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka and Gary Woodland – the three Major winners from this year – will have eyes on the Claret Jug, along with the usual suspects, headed up by 2014 Champion Golfer of the Year and home hero Rory McIlroy.

TOMORROW, 24th June, more than 1,000 players will battle it out for a spot at Final Qualifying across 13 venues. The field is littered with interesting storylines to keep an eye on, including a former Test cricketer and a world snooker champion. Professionals and amateurs with a handicap of scratch or better will play one round of golf in hope of advancing to the next stage. It's expected that 140 players will progress to July’s Final Qualifying, where four venues across the UK determine the 12 places – three from each venue – in the field for Royal Portrush.


County Louth, is the only Irish course to host RQ this year - as expected, the number of applications from Ireland has gone through the roof as the nation's clamour to compete at Royal Portrush - heading south to County Louth is Gary McNeill, the Club Pro at Royal Portrush. McNeill, who watched his friend Darren Clarke win The 140th Open at Royal St George’s, could play at Royal Portrush regardless of whether he qualifies. If an odd number of players make the cut, then a marker will be required to play alongside the early starter and the Dunluce Course specialist is excited at the prospect. “I haven’t played at Louth in quite a while, but we used to play the East of Ireland Championship there in the amateur days, so I do know the venue quite well,” he said. “I’m going to go there and hopefully give a reasonable account of myself. I’m ready to play if called on. “I’ve never qualified to play in the tournament itself before, but I have played in qualifying events in the past, without any success.”
Shaun Murphy – who has won more than £3m in prize money from snooker – is used to potting balls with a cue rather than hitting them with a club but his natural hand-eye coordination will serve him well at County Louth.

In the north of England, competitors will tackle Alwoodley, in Leeds, as well as West Lancashire – the county's oldest golf club – Goswick, set on the Northumberland coastline, and Fairhaven, which was first designed by five-time Champion Golfer of the Year James Braid.

In the Midlands, hopefuls will play in the shadow of Kedleston Hall as they take on Kedleston Park in Derbyshire while Northamptonshire County hosts a Regional Qualifying event for the first time since 2002. Eddie Pepperell – who finished in a tie for sixth at Carnoustie last summer – is hoping to make The 148th Open a family affair, with his brother Joe set to play at Northamptonshire County.

The south of England will see five events take place, with another historic clubhouse awaiting competitors at Burhill, in Surrey.
Wildernesse, in Kent, offers a similarly rich history, as does Sandy Lodge in Middlesex.
Southern-based golfers will face Frilford Heath, designed by JH Taylor, a former Champion Golfer of the Year who also helped lay out Royal Birkdale, and Sean Ervine, a former Zimbabwe cricket international with a healthy first-class batting average of 36.15, is playing at Frilford Heath, along with 2017 Amateur Champion Harry Ellis and Pelle Edberg – who has played in three previous Opens and finished tied 12th in 2007.
Minchinhampton in the heart of the Cotswolds, which was also a Regional Qualifying venue in 2018. A lot of attention will be on John E Morgan, the Sky Sports presenter and commentator who is set to tee it up at Minchinhampton.
OTHERS incl European Tour players Simon Khan, Richard Finch, Pablo Martin Benavides and Robert Dinwiddie will also compete, along with the marker from Carnoustie last summer in Keir McNicoll.

And, in Scotland and just a stone’s throw from Carnoustie, is Panmure, the 16th-oldest golf club in the world.

Robert MacIntyre’s rookie season on the European Tour just keeps getting better and better. Already assured of keeping his card after a series of strong results – not least back-to-back finishes in the British Masters and Made In Denmark – the Oban youngster has now punched his ticket for next month’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush. The 22-year-old secured one of the five places for players, not already exempt, within the top 20 of the 2019 Race to Dubai at the end of today’s BMW International Open in Germany.
After rallying to make the cut on Friday, MacIntyre finished in a tie for 49th at Golfclub Munchen Eichenreid in Munich. He’s now 15th on the Race To Dubai – good enough to make his major debut in Northern in just over three weeks’ time.
"I'm over the moon," MacIntyre told europeantour.com. "I thought the chance might never come up to get into The Open or a major after losing the British Amateur final but here we are.
"If I was ever to win one Major, it would be The Open Championship, I'm just going to learn from it. I played Royal Portrush for Scotland, it's an unbelievable golf course and a course I know reasonably well for an Open, it couldn't have been a better one for me."
MacIntyre brings the number of Scots qualified for this year’s championship to three, taking his place in the field alongside 1999 champion Paul Lawrie and Russell Knox.

David Lipsky, Kurt Kitayama, Richard Sterne and Erik van Rooyen also all qualified thanks to strong starts to the season.

The announcement was on twitter but shortly after it went up, however, the post was deleted.
Since 1986, the R&A has employed a four-hole aggregate playoff to decide the Open winner if there was a tie after 72 holes, followed by sudden death if things remain deadlocked after four holes. It was first used in 1989 when Mark Calcavecchia defeated Greg Norman and Wayne Grady at Royal Troon for the claret jug. Prior to that, the Open playoff was 18 holes from 1964 to 1985, with a 36-hole showdown before that.
The PGA Championship uses a three-hole aggregate playoff, while the U.S. Open ditched its 18-hole playoff for a two-hole aggregate in 2018. The Masters is the only major that uses a sudden-death format...

ANOTHER 12 PLAYERS have kept their Claret Jug dream alive.....from the 4 local qualifiers.....

American amateur Brandon WU continued his upward trajectory by finishing top of the standings at Fairmont St Andrews after shooting nine under to secure his ticket to Portrush.
The 22-year-old finished T35 at Pebble Beach in the US Open last month and followed up that performance by attempting to secure his place at the final major of the year.
Rounds of 64 and 67 ensured he finished three shots better off than Scotland’s Connor SYME (will play in his second Open having missed the cut in 2017 at Royal Birkdale) and five clear of pro Sam LOCKE (won the Silver Medal for leading amateur at Carnoustie last year), with all three qualifying for The Open.

Andrew WILSON led the way at Notts while former English Amateur champion Thomas THURLOWAY, part of the Walker Cup squad, will also be at Portrush after finishing one shot behind Wilson. Ashton TURNER saw off Dave Coupland in a play-off that concluded at 9.30pm - he will contest for the Claret Jug for a second year in a row.

The youngest qualifier – and the third amateur to make the cut – came at Prince’s in the shape of 18yo Curtis KNIPES, who beat a field paced with European Tour winners.
Two-time Ryder Cup star David Howell missed out on the play-off by a shot on seven under, while Matthew Southgate and former Silver Medal winner Alfie Plant also came up short.
Curtis is joined by Callum SHINKWIN, who will look to better his previous two Open performances in 2016 and 2017 when he missed the cut. Canadian Austin CONNELLY completed the successful trio from the course in Sandwich, having come through a play-off at Cinque Ports en route to finishing 14th at Royal Birkdale in 2017.

A trio of English golfers prevailed at St Annes Old Links, with Jack SENIOR and former Amateur Championship winner Garrick PORTEOUS finishing tops. It is the second year in a row, 30-year-old Senior has been successful at the Lytham course, coming through Final Qualifying last year to play his second Open at Carnoustie. Matt BALDWIN was the third and final qualifier.

Meanwhile, it was not to be for Dylan Keating – the teenage nephew of Boyzone star Ronan Keating – after the 16-year-old came through Regional Qualifying at County Louth.
He shot rounds of 73 and 76 to finish five over, with fellow Regional Qualifier (and Dooks GC Pro) Daniel Sugrue’s Claret Jug dream also ending despite being a shot better off at four over.

American OWGR #34 Kevin Na has withdrawn from The Open because of injury (neck problem) with Slovakian Rory Sabbatini coming in as his replacement at Royal Portrush.
Charles Howell III has also withdrawn so next alternate Brian Harman is in to his spot. Howell III has played just two OPEN's since 2013 and both were missed cuts.
Former world number one Martin Kaymer is now first reserve, followed by American Kevin Tway.
