|
|
By:
I think the markets are not too bad for getting bets on at decent prices......
|
|
By:
you've lost twice this year and won every other weekend...
hmmmm either you're a liar or you're a trader |

There is a simple solution here, silove. I am not a gambler as such but betfair can count. Go into your profit and loss for last 3 mths and send us the printout, without changing it. Here's mine by the way...............
Golf: -€12.12 | Soccer: €54.69 Total P&L: €42.57 ![]() |

Liquidity pretty poor these days except on the Sunday . Markets often are running near the 100 % on the last round , profit can be made selectively . But the scalpers who are ahead of the game get any cream there is .
Picking outright winners is damn near impossible in my opinion , was relatively easy once when Tiger and Monty were around , but there is a different generation about now , none of whom feel the need to win every week . There is so much money sloshing around the top players that being in top 125 is sufficient to guarantee a great living . |

mr meagi - How are you not winning on golf? If you had just put £100 on each of your Golf Comp picks over the last 3 months, you would be over 12k up!

Hi El Bandido,
I bet with PP and use Betfair as a counterweight/cover. Betfair is merging into an extended PP and the only value is to be found on the outsiders and the problem with that is that there are so many of them. Most of these are never winning propositions and even when they are in contention it is impossible to use them as currency. I remember a Golf Trader saying to me that he could not afford to gamble on Golf. I am beginning to see his point. I also agree that the modern golfers have other concerns other than winning golf tournaments.Look at Spieth this year, look at Fowler, look at Scott winning while getting a quadruple bogey, the time off people like McIlroy, Willet, Grace, Schwartzel,Stenson afford themselves when seemingly 'out of form' is ridiculous. Don't start me on Justin Rose? It is like a Grand National every week with 150+runners. Mystic Meg, could not predict this stuff. IMHO This week I am going to go last and pick the ones that no one else wants. I just might win. |

PP: (Each Way Terms 1/5 places 1,2,3,4,5)
Johnson, Dustin 9/2 Mcilroy, Rory 11/2 Spieth, Jordan 8/1 Scott, Adam 9/1 Day, Jason 9/1 Betfair:Dustin Johnson 6.2 Rory McIlroy 7.8 Jordan Spieth 9.6 Jason Day 11.5 Adam Scott 12.5O This is like looking in the window of Animal Farm . Odds checker is all the same. Bookmakers make a book via consensus and they offer you lower than the actual odds to make a profit. When this is done they leave the head work to you. What is a commodity in Golf. Matsuyama, Hideki 6/4 to finish in the top 10 (I don't think so?), but there is no way I will lay him at 4.3 on Betfair. We are between a rock and a hard place.IMHO |

hi silove,
a profit is a profit and well done for posting. Bookies are quite happy to trade at 5-10% of turnover. Have you any idea what your profit to turnover margin is? If it is higher than this over a sustained period ie over 12 mths of continuous activity then you are indeed 'doing well'.Congrats. ![]() |
|
By:
mr meagi - I hope you're winning nicely on PP. I wouldn't like to encourage others to gamble, but it seems to me if you're 117 points in profit (38% RoI) from 62 tournaments for your 5 picks in the comp, then it's worth a punt.

Kind words, El Bandido, and thanks.
This is what I know. It takes alot of money to turn a bad punter into an average punter. It usually never happens. My Missus can break even with a bookmaker, by walking past their shop. Any level of gambling is time consuming. I will never earn more per hour gambling than a lady working on a Tesco Till. The only way is to use what silvoe refers to as a system. To do that you need self-discipline and perseverence. I have dropped all systems that I have encountered to date for performance reasons. All I accumulate is experience but with gambling as in other aspects of life, you either have talent or you have not. My Dad was what I would call a nine and I would generously regard myself as a six. My Missus is a five. What are you? ![]() |

1ST 2ND 3RD 13 11 10 Let us do the Maths here. Lets assume another 30 times placed==13 wins from approx 200 times when no place return. This guy should be approx 17/1 at least. He is 9/1 on PP and 12.5 on Betfair. This is like the rake in Online Poker. ''If you dance on the side of a hill you will end up in the valley'' mr meagi ![]() |

my profit loss doesnt have this soccer !
its football on mine , strange ! but punters do need to wise up to bookies |
|
By:
It's football on mine as well, donny. But maybe it's soccer for Irish users? But then I don't know why it would be in £. Not saying anyone's busted or anything
![]() mr meagi, judging by the Golf Comp, which is the only true test, I'd surely have to be an 8 or a 9. |
|
By:
It's soccer on mine. If you had a thousand pounds free bet to invest on the Tour Tournament, EB, what would you do with it? Let's see if you use it wisely.
This is what I would do. I would back the Field on PP. Big Guns v The Field The Field 11/10 The Big Guns(Scott, Johnson, Day, Spieth, Mcilroy) ![]() |

I will post my 5 picks on the competition thread, like always. Obviously can only judge these things over time.

Tigers win to run ratio was amazing at one point but not sustainable. |

dont forget the prices will be a little shorted and tighter this week due to the number of players. so that is part of the reason scott is 9/1
|
|
By:
Hi mengmeng, the reason Scott is 9-11/1 is the following.
Golf is a minority betting sport for good reasons. Your average punter avoids it like the plague. With so little harvest cash to grab then why would a golf trader go out on a limb and offer 20/1 Adam Scott. If you are selling Aluminium Alloys in your motor-shop there is no harm in selling bunch flowers at the door. That is what Golf trading is, ie 'bunch flowers'. There is fantastic value for the masters/ and the open when there is loads of mug money floating about as a result of the Sky hype. The Ryder Cup is just a toss of the coin but they will find a gimmick to drag us all in. More money will be bet on the Dublin/Mayo replay than the Ryder Cup is my bet. What do you think. To date there is 58 quid bet on Betfair on the Tour Top US market/ Going In-PlayCash OutRules PinMatched: EUR 58 Hold me, I feel dizzy! ![]() |
