Those who played yesterday are going to end up playing at least 27 holes tomorrow (if they make the cut of course), whereas those who didn't play yesterday (Day) will get two rounds in today in soft conditions. Quite an advantage.
Remains to be seen whether that is an advantage. 36 holes in one day on this course is hard work, difficult to maintain concentration. The greens and run offs still has plenty of speed after rain yesterday.
Plenty, including Spieth (and McIlroy if he makes the cut), will end up playing 36 tomorrow in firmer conditions.
imo it depends on how strong the wind is today that decides who gets the advantage, and can't see it getting too firm before mid-day tomorrow.
Tee times for round 2 have groups teeing off at 9.27PM, must have got floodlights installed overnight. With breeze and a bit of sunshine in the afternoon course could change a lot throughout the day so the guys playing 36 will have to adapt a fair bit throughout the day. They'll want to be back on track for a traditional Sunday 2-ball finish, if they can get the 3rd round started by 1.30 tomorrow they should be OK but Oakmont in US Open conditions isn't exactly conducive to quick play so that might be pushing it.
The course wont play any easier than it was yesterday. It will be a minor miracle if anyone playing 36 holes in one day finishs even close to par

Yeah, a lot of commentators are putting the advantage with the late / early guys but 36 holes in a day round Oakmont with breeze and ever-changing course conditions has to be mentally exhausting, I wouldn't fancy it. The guys playing a few holes yesterday, a few today, and a few tomorrow at least get to recharge the batteries. Plus the latest is due to the soaked conditions they are not allowing fans in, so must be fairly ugly around the course still. The USGA never play the ball up so mudballs must be a factor on top of everything else.
Not surprising considering he probably spent all night on the practice green with a torch hitting 10 footers.
Does anyone know whether there are any locals playing who are really used to the course? Perhaps among the lesser known players? cheers
These should have been Rory's conditions, if it's going to get firmer over the weekend it's hardly going to help. If he's playing, that is.

Sounds like they're now going to start the second round 2 wave first thing in the morning instead of this evening. Think that guarantees round 3 will still be getting played on Sunday morning.
2 tee start in the morning, 2 tee start in the arvo, may get it through. These weather delays really annoying. Comms were saying this is the 19th time in the last 20 events on the PGA Tour there has been a weather delay of some kind.

Again. Wasn't he 4 over through the front nine in the first round last year. Finished his 4th round as leader before Speith pipped him at the post.

knifed one from bunker to bunker which plugged left it in the bunker got up and down

I know he's an unknown but surely if serial non-winner Westwood is 14 then Landry 1 shot better at 120 represents slightly better value?
He looked same at Chambers Bay rhino and hence my cash that sunk with him

I certainly have, having been bitten twice in 2010, once in 2011 (Open) and twice in 2015 (I still think the Open last year was as bad as any), and I'd probably backed him in almost every major in between.
Augusta this year when he made his charge, some mates suggested this could be it, I laughed, but this price at this stage of the tournament is ludicrous.
I won't be annoyed if he wins as his SP was at a price that had zero appeal to me, but I really can't see him doing it, I don't know who winning would shock me more, Westwood or DJ? In any case, I don't think the question will have to be answered in the near future

DJ should be streets ahead. Needs all the padding he can get before the weekend.
He really should be three or four clear,bit like Kaymer couple of years ago.Golf so far been stunning..Putting looking suspect though!

Butch probably correct about that Piercy, just had about 6ft putt for birdie and bogeyed, so may have been missing putts all day from good positions.
