Having a crisp sounding tournament name clearly doesn't come into consideration for naming sponsor rights on the PGA Tour.

Best course of all the Texas venues which attracts a handy little field each year and has done so again. Fighting fires on two fronts this week, ball rolling here with Dufner. It's an even year which bodes well for him here and starting to simmer in recent weeks, just needs to come to the boil. Wasn't expecting 48/50 as a price.

Sometimes going to poop vs going to poop nearly every time makes Jordan very easy to profit from when betting.

I got greedy today and didnt make much profit with Jordan, but I didn't bet much and only got involved today. At the open  I'll back him providing he is a decent price, but if Day is going well and they are both tee off together at anytime I will lay him. And I'll also bet on Day to win the vs market anywhere I can. I make no serious golf bets other than on Speith and I've done incredibly well on him. The guy is a dream from a betting point of view.

I actually said as far back as day 2 of the Masters that he had a big choke in him when everyone thought he would walk away with it, but even I didn't imagine it would be as bad as it was. Masters pay day thread I advised a lay couple of holes before he went in the water. To be fair so did a couple of other posters. I have mixed feelings about Speith, but I think the more he matures the more I'll be a fan. Happy for his win last night

They ALL have a choke in them. Not one player is an exception.
Spieth wins 2 Majors and more PGA wins than Tiger Woods before the age of 23.

He is a winning machine, it's the consistency of choking that counts.
His incredible putting is done under extreme pressure.
He chokes less than just about anyone in the game.

The DEAN & DELUCA Invitational is one of the five events on the PGA Tour with “invitational” status, 121 Players with and a 3-year exemption for the winner with T70 & ties making the cut.
This Invitational (formerly The Crowne Plaza) or simply The Colonial has been a victim of the weird 2016 scheduling - with the addition of golf in the Olympics last year and three Majors approaching more rapidly than Winter - Fuse that with the European Flagship BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week - and the strength of the 10th oldest PGA TOUR event has been quite diminished.
It’s not to say The Colonial is devoid of talent, it’s not. However, the depth of this field, it’s thinner than Jordan Spieth’s hairline. This Texas two-step has also switched places with last week's Dallas-area sister event.
Report Catch Me ifyoucan May 22, 2017 9:39 PM BST
The fourth event of Adam Scott’s "Texas Slam" - after the Valero Texas Open from TPC San Antonio, Shell Houston Open (SHO) from Humble outside Houston, last week’s AT&T Byron Nelson from TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving and now the 70th time Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth plays host to this Invitational.

THIS week we again honour Ben Hogan at Colonial CC - designed by Perry Maxwell and John Bredemus - it's also known as “Hogan’s Alley” after the legendary 5 times champion - with narrow fairways and dramatic dog-legs shaping this course from the tee, it goes down as a classic shot-maker's layout without question. Not to be confused with the 6th hole in Carn-nasty or Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades  - The PGA Players voted this as one of their top 5 courses to play on TOUR.
Report Catch Me ifyoucan May 22, 2017 10:40 PM BST
Only Ben Hogan has defended his title at Colonial. He did it twice. There’s not much wonder why this place has the nickname “Hogan’s Alley”.

Course Architect in 1936 was Perry Maxwell – he was the driving force behind Augusta National after Alistair Mackenzie’s death and it’s not a coincidence that Scott and Zach are winners here and have also been 'green jacket' winners (and Sergio too !). Major Champions have also featured strongly in the winners circle here.

Another Par 70 course with only two Par 5s - the 1st Hole and 11th hole. The course opens with a friendly Par 5 which is usually the easiest hole on the course.
However that’s where the birdie chances also ends - then the fun starts - from Hole 3 onwards, with a 247 yard Par 3 fourth hole and the extremely tough 481 yard 5th hole, likely to take back any shots that were gained earlier. It is a tight tree lined track with small greens, numerous doglegs, very well placed fairway bunkers and water in play on six holes.
This is a real test of ball striking and driving accuracy is even more important this week. Course management in finding those small greens will also be crucial (within the Top 30 in GIR will be required) as will scrambling stats when the greens are missed. Strokes Gained Putting another important stat as those putts must drop. EXPERIENCE is a prerequisite for success at Colonial, other than the winners-only SBS Tournament of Champions and World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship, no tournament that has existed as long at this Invitational has gone this long without a first-time winner. Garcia is its last, back in 2001.

Previous Winners........
2016: Spieth-less 263 (-17) by 3 shots from Harris English.
2015: Chris Kirk -12 over Jason Bohn, Brandt Snedeker, Jordan Spieth -11
2014: Adam Scott -9 over Jason Dufner in playoff
2013: Boo Weekley -14 over Matt Kuchar -13
2012: Zach Johnson -12 over Jason Dufner -11
2011: David Toms -15 over Charlie Wi -14
2010: Zach Johnson -21 over Brian Davis -18 (72-HOLE RECORD: 259)
2009: Stricker. 2008: PHIL (& won 2000). 2007: Sabbatini. 2006: Herron. 2005: Perry (& won 2003).
Two time winners ??? Wonder can Kirk or Weekley can step up to the plate again ??? IF Jordan wins, he joins Mr Ben Hogan as title defenders!

ADD Tom Dumoulin 4/6 in the GIRO & Bernhard Langer 7/2 (SENIORS PGA) to your bets in Hogan's Alley Devil
Report Catch Me ifyoucan May 22, 2017 11:00 PM BST
As is the case for most Par 70 layouts, making the easy birdies on the Par 5s will be essential to collecting a novelty check, but Par 4 scoring becomes a far more important factor. Especially when you look at the length of the Par 4s. Seven of the 12 on course measure between 400-450 yards. Normally, that’s counterbalanced with some more difficult, lengthier Par 4s, but that’s not the case at Colonial. There are only three longer than 450 yards, leaving birdie making opportunities at No. 2 (389 yards) and No. 17 (387 yards), two of the easier holes on the course.

The field can also vault up the leaderboard if they’re dominant on Par 3s from 190-200 yards. Three of the four Par 3s fall in that specific range. Overall, any style can win at Colonial, but seeking out players who are particularly good from those key ranges will be the best way to predict a winner. Unless, they fall victim to the “Horrible Horseshoe,” that is. Holes 3-5 can cripple any player. NO ONE IS SAFE!!!!!!!!!!

Since 1983, the Horrible Horseshoe has played to a combined score-to-par total of +6,613 while the other 15 holes have played to -769.
In 2015, Hole No. 3 was the second most difficult on the course (+0.124), No. 4 was fourth (+0.41), and No. 5 was the toughest (+0.263).
For some context: 91 bogeys, 16 double bogeys, and 4 “others” were made at No. 5 against 29 birdies last year.
And, of 11,802 rounds played at Colonial, just 1,623 of those rounds have played holes 3-5 under par.
There are only 21 players to have a career relative to par score under par on the Horrible Horseshoe. Devil
Report Catch Me ifyoucan May 22, 2017 11:12 PM BST
Normally a warm week for the Dallas area with several days making a run at 90 degrees. The Texas winds usually stand up as the first line of defence on this par 70 but only moderate breezes will be the norm during the two rounds and the trend will continue as we head into Memorial Day weekend holiday in the USA.
Sunday sets up as the best day for scoring but with the threat of rain and thunderstorms while daytime temperatures could eclipse 90 degrees. In similarly warm, windy and humid conditions last year, the field averaged 70.197. That's in line with recent history at Colonial. With a birdie-or-better percentage of 25.93 (10th-lowest of the season) and a scrambling clip of 57.06 percent (17th-lowest), the premium is on hitting Greens in Regulation (GIR stat please). Should be easy to pick a winner.
Report Catch Me ifyoucan May 23, 2017 12:39 PM BST
Thankfully, Colonial is an invitational event, which shrinks the field to 121 players from the 156 entrants we had last week, keeping out a lot of the bottom end riffraff, but there’s still a dearth of overall talent.

THE CONTENDERS y’all know.....

Say howdy to Jason Dufner 25/1 who has made 6 of 8 cuts at Colonial, including two runner-up finishes and a T6 last year. Jason was on the cusp of contending over yonder last week before falling just outside of the T10. He fits the mould of a great ball-striker on a course that demands just that.
Bud Cauley 33/1 has been hot of late, with back-to-back Top 5's & 10s in his last four starts. Bud’s made two of his three cuts in this tournament, with both going for top 25s. Ain’t my first rodeo on this horse.
Chris Kirk 55/1 a course horse starting to come back to form, T12 at Sawgrass, is impossible to ignore this week, having made 7/7 cuts including a win, a T5 and five T16 finishes at Colonial over the years.
Brandt Snedeker 50/1 – Made all six cuts here, with half going for T20’s including a T5 in 2015. Had T30s in his five starts prior to a missed cut last week.
Marc Leishman 45/1 has never missed a cut in six trips, with a T13 last year marking one of two T25s. His form is in good shape, with a win already on the resume in 2017 and coming off a T13 last week at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Ryan Palmer 33/1 – It’s always easy to back this Texan in his home state. It makes it even simpler considering he tied for third here last year and has two other T5’s in 13 visits to Colonial CC. Three top 11s in his last five starts dating back to the RBC Heritage.

OTHERS ain’t nothin’ but yellow-belly Yankees...

Sergio Garcia 14/1 has failed to meet expectations since his Masters win, but to be fair it has only been two starts. Sergio is a past winner in this event, and has three top 20s in his seven attempts while he’s also missed three cuts, so anythin' could happen with this Spaniard.
Matt Kuchar 25/1 grabbed a T10 last week without ever actually contending. The bigger surprise is that it’s only his third T10 of the season. He’s made eight of nine cuts, with three top 10s in this event.
Billy Horschel 45/1 you may be surprised to find that he has never played this event. The emotional win on Sunday will surely lead him to even bigger things, this week or very soon again. Billy got hot and stayed hot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs a few years ago so don’t be atall surprised if he’s in the hunt again on Sunday.

That’s all I got for ya today folks! Ya'll come back now! Ya hear? Devil
