fowler shot a 67 last round 2015,but first two rounds 73,72 put him ooc, still top 12 thou

hes vastly improved his driving/putting this year

lively contender
Report lewisham ranger March 28, 2016 10:49 AM BST
I always thought Fowlers finish at the players last year, the way he played the last few holes, that was without doubt major winning form

he wouldn't have been able to do that in the past but now he's proved he can get it done under pressure

I take the point about day, how do you stop him. I just get the feeling with him that he's very intense and it's very hard work, rory more talent but who will end their career with more majors? rory for me cus he can go through the gears, (well the fact that he's younger and has four to Jason's one is also a bonus) jason just one gear that's flat out all the way

just that it's a very good gear Excited

fowler gone off form slightly of late but just got a feeling he will peak form the masters

also jimmy walker worth a mention- usually wins all the mickey mouse tournaments then collapses like a damp squib in the majors, but I think this year he intends to peak for the big ones

Report donny osmond March 28, 2016 11:30 AM BST
if day plays well then you'll need a good week to beat him, probably
4 good rounds, 16-20 under, and bottle to close it out

certainly narrows down the field of likely suspects if that were to happen
Report lewisham ranger March 28, 2016 12:52 PM BST
16-20 under though is unusual for the masters

I'm sure if he reaches that he will win, normally the winning score is around nine or ten under

the winning score will depend on the condition of the course. If it is soft then 16 - 20 under possible if it is firm and fast then id take around -10
Report lewisham ranger March 28, 2016 1:19 PM BST
in the last 40 years I think there have only been 5 winning scores that have been 16 under or better

so if you get 16 under you win, basically

or very unlucky not toScared
Report lewisham ranger March 28, 2016 1:21 PM BST
I think they'll toughen it up this year, maybe make the pins very difficult for example, organizers will fear these big bombers tearing the course apart, they've already changed one of the par fives that bubba reached with a hit over the trees and a simple wedge.
Report Mighty Whites 2008 March 28, 2016 1:30 PM BST
they have bought some land but havent changed anything yet on 13.

If the course is soft i think the 16 - 20 under is very possible. Hopefully it will be firm and fast with a winning score around -10
Report therhino March 28, 2016 1:30 PM BST
Don't think the 13th has been lengthened yet lewisham, I've read they are buying land in order to have that option, but don't think that will be for this year. Hopefully they don't touch it. Pin positions rarely change from year to year, doubt they will tinker, especially the back 9 on Sunday pin positions. They won't lengthen the rough because there is no rough. Mighty is correct, all about hard or soft. It's up to the man upstairs how the course will play.
Report therhino March 28, 2016 1:32 PM BST
Great minds think alike Mighty, simultaneously too it seems Scared
Report therhino March 28, 2016 1:34 PM BST
Would be a travesty if they changed 13. Best par 5 in the world and they want to tinker because someone hit the best tee shot I've ever seen on it Crazy
Report Mighty Whites 2008 March 28, 2016 1:41 PM BST
they are considering changing it off the back of bubba's drive 2 years ago where he carried all the trees on the left and only had a wedge in!

They did change the course after tigers win in 97.

Its a shame how technology advances make holes and courses obsolete but unless they reverse things in this area it will only get worse.
Report lewisham ranger March 28, 2016 1:44 PM BST
would like to see tony finau around this course, not playing this year but some of the shots he hit yesterday were outrageous

just have a feeling this guy is going to go to the very top of the game. reminds me of dusty bin, a good short game and absolutely bombs it off the tee

speaking of dusty he's another one who should be on the radar for the masters, problem is at this rate I'll back half the field Scared
Report lewisham ranger March 28, 2016 1:51 PM BST
You are right Mighty, I think what we are seeing now is a domination of the bombers, that's why I can see someone like Tony Finau being a top five player in a few years for example, will just be dominated by the big guys.

I think Golf is in a good spot right now, but if people started hitting it any further it would be ridiculous, it would turn people away from the game, sadly manufacturers are just obsessed with length and developing equipment that enables golfers to hit a ball even further still, until the powers that be take a stand and say enough is enough, it will only get worse

Agree Fallen, unbelievable value. When you compare some of their odds with the top ten betting its massive value. Zach Johnson is the perfect example. Top priced 9/2 and generally shorter in the top ten market, yet 55/1 and quarter the odds top 8... Fantastic price imo.

My main bet is Adam Scott, decent saver on Day. Then ZJ as above and Charley Hoffman at 125/1, also 8 places.

Like the look of Rose top Englishman at 13/8 and top GB&Ire at 7/2 as well.

Looking at the weather reports there was about two inches of rain on the 1st April (not joking), and maximum temp since is low 70s mid afternoons.
The course might be slow and favour Bubba Watson and other big hitters.
Although it was said the course was soft in 2015 shorter hitters like Spieth and Zach did well, so I'm guessing the course wasn't playing long.
Has anyone got any hard info on conditions?

I've invested in Smylie Kaufman.
He is one of the long drivers in the field.  Check the driver stats on PGA Tour - distance to apex - and see the company he keeps.
Check Youtube for his eagle at a 295 par 4 using a 3 wood, and hitting into the back bunker at a 340 yard par 4 at Doral.
This year (his only year) .....  He closed with a 61 to win.  He tops the stats for consecutive birdies on par 3s - five !!!
My only worry is the occasion might get to him.
I'm fully invested so I'm no longer worried about losing the price.

Smylie has good recent form last month.  06/03/16 WGC Cadillac 8th; 20/03/16 Arnold Palmer Invitational 12th

In contrast Kaymer's 2016 form is lukewarm.   He did ok in the matchplay although lost 8 & 6 to Zach Johnson.
If Kaymer wins the Masters it will be the greatest comeback since Lazarus.
Martin Kaymer is a proven dud at Augusta.  Five missed cuts and 41st, 35th, 31st in eight attempts.  He plays Augusta like an 18 handicapper.

Think this strengthens Fowler's claims, good wind player and putting very well these days. Going cool on Bubba as well, for all the talk of Rory in the wind I can't remember Bubba mastering breezy conditions, likes it still so he bend it all over the place.
