For each event, competitors are invited to select 5 players (plus one reserve).
Competitors score points according to the BEST PLACED of their 5 players.
The reserve will be used if one of the 5 first choice players doesn’t start the tournament.
Selections must be made on this forum on the appropriate thread before the start of each tournament (I will post a thread well before each event).
Selections made after the start of the tournament will NOT be accepted.
If there is any ambiguity about a selected player (eg Johnson could mean Zach or Dustin etc), then this selection will not be accepted.
Scoring
Points are awarded after each event, according to the BEST PLACED of the 5 selected players.
Winner = Best RP Price x 10, subject to a minimum of 100 points, 2nd place (and ties) = 70 points, 3rd place (and ties) = 50 points, 4th place (and ties) = 40 points, 5th place (and ties) = 30 points, 6th place (and ties) = 25 points, 7th place (and ties) = 20 points, 8th place (and ties) = 15 points, 9th place (and ties) = 10 points, 10th place (and ties) = 5 points.
Otherwise, if a competitor’s best placed player is outside the top 10, nul points!
Team Competitions (eg EurAsia Cup)
Competitors will be invited to make one correct score prediction before the start of the EurAsia Cup, and scoring will be as follows…
Exact correct score = 100 points, ½ a point away = 70 points, 1 point away = 50 points, 1 and a ½ points away = 40 points, 2 points away = 30 points, 2 and a ½ points away = 25 points, 3 points away = 20 points, 3 and a ½ points away = 15 points, 4 points away = 10 points, 4 and a ½ points away = 5 points.
Otherwise, no points!
Any future team competitions will be scored in the same way.
Bonus
New for 2016, there will be a boosted bonus for any competitor who achieves the double (ie 2 winners in the same week).
The bonus for a double will be 10 x Best RP of the lower priced leg, subject to a minimum of 100 points. (eg double of 40/1 and 50/1 would be 400 + 500 = 900 points basic, with a bonus of 400 points)
Some weeks may have 3 tournaments, in which case the treble will be scored as 3 doubles. (eg treble of 5/1,30/1, and 40/1 would be 100 + 300 + 400 = 800 points basic, with a bonus of 100 + 100 + 300 = 500 points)
An exact score in any team competition can be used as part of a double to earn a 100 point bonus.
Season Structure
The season is divided into 3 parts: Qualifying Stage, Main Season, and Final Series.
The Qualifying Stage ends with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions/SA Open. The Main Season starts 14 January, and will include all PGA and European Tour events up until the weekend of 21 August. Then the Final Series begins - 8 events, including the Playoff events from both tours, plus the WGC - HSBC Champions. Points will be zeroed at the start of the Main Season. Points are carried forward from the Main Season to the Final Series.
There is no cut after the Qualifying Stage.
The winner of the 2015 Golf Competition, that's tv man, qualifies automatically for the 2016 Final Series. The winner of the Qualifying Stage (or second place if the 2015 champion wins) also qualifies automatically for the 2016 Final Series. In addition to these two, the top 10 ranked competitors (and ties) after the Main Season will progress to the Final Series.
Double/Treble Points Events
The following tournaments will be double points in 2016: All WGC’s, Olympic Games, PLAYERS Championship, BMW PGA Championship, and all Final Series events.
The 4 majors will be treble points.
Any bonus points (for winning doubles in the same week) remain unchanged.
Automatic Picks
So that it’s no longer a disadvantage to miss the occasional week, competitors who fail to post on time will be assigned automatic picks. These will be the 5 most popular picks in the competition (and in case of a tie, the player with the higher rank in the Official World Golf Rankings at the start of the tournament). In case of team events, the correct score prediction assigned will be the tie.
Automatic picks can be used only for one week during the Qualifying Stage, and for a maximum of 3 weeks during the Main Season. Any subsequent missed weeks will be scored as zero.
Automatic picks do not apply during the Final Series.
Automatic picks cannot be applied retrospectively. So, competitors who join the competition later than the first week of the Main Season will be scored as zero for all earlier weeks of the competition. All competitors who post below on this thread will be eligible for Automatic picks in the first week, as will all competitors who entered the Qualifying Stage.
Cancelled Tournaments
If a tournament is cancelled, or where not enough holes are completed to make it an official result (usually 36 for European Tour, 54 for PGA Tour), all bets are void. In these cases, the Golf Competition for that tournament will also be void, and all competitors will score zero.
Etiquette
Surely, no golf competition rules could be complete without a section on etiquette!
When it comes to the later stages of the golf competition, and especially for the final event, leading competitors could in theory gain an advantage by mimicking the selections of their lower placed rivals. In these situations, good etiquette will be that the leader picks early enough for the challengers to post after them. (Ideally, the competitors would pick in order starting with the leader, but obviously that’s not practical).
This applies to the leaders at the end of the Qualifying Stage as well as at the end of the season, and also applies to those around the cut mark at the end of the Main Season.

This competition has been running for 3 years now without prize money. It's time to change this!
Since beginning of March, I've been posting the WGTR INDEX picks on Twitter @tipsterstour. In a nutshell, these are 5 picks which represent the collective wisdom of all our picks. So far, we've had 3 winners from 11 tournaments for a 50 point profit. And this profit will be the basis of our Prize Fund.
£10 stakes means current Prize Bank is £500.
Obviously, there's no guarantee of prizes with this method. It's down to all of you (and me) to study hard and make really great picks. No pressure!
Eligibility
This competition will remain FREE TO ENTER.
However, to be eligible for the prizes, competitors will be required to tweet their picks to @tipsterstour for all 8 events of the Final Series.
If you don't already have a Twitter account, you can create a new one easily. And prize winners will also need a PayPal account to receive the prize.
Prize Breakdown
The level of the Prize Bank after the final event of the Main Season will determine the amounts.
The breakdown is as follows:
Overall winner = 25% (Prize Bank £200+) Second place = 10% (Prize Bank £500+) Third place = 5% (Prize Bank £1000+) All other Final Series competitors 2.5% (Prize Bank £2000+)
The minimum individual prize is £50, otherwise it’s not worth transferring. So the minimum level of the Prize Bank for that part of the prize to be awarded is shown in brackets.
The remainder will be carried over as the Prize Bank for the 2017 competition.
In terms of the staking plan. If the Prize Bank goes above £2000 at any stage, stakes will increase to £20 per pick. Above £3000, stakes will be £30 per pick, and so on. Stakes can also be reduced again according to the level of the Prize Bank.
Tipsters Tour
This is what I've called the competition on Twitter. "Tipsters", because essentially this is a tipping competition, and also because we are publishing our collective tips (WGTR INDEX), and even funding our prizes from these tips! And "Tour", like the pro golf tours, with a limited number of members, with exemptions and qualifiers, and in future there may well be sponsors invites too!

Clerkmore, I took the liberty of backing the 5 picks myself since March on behalf of us all. Adam Scott got us into profit after the first week. We went slightly into the red on the second week, but then bounced back in style with SSP Chowrasia and Tony Finau. Stakes have been returned to their rightful owner, and now we have £500 bank to play with!

And donny, if you put a tenner on each of your picks since last August, you'd be over 2 grand up. And that's at RP prices. Smylie was 90 points higher on here.

I will be supporting this page anyway. Just noting a bit of a move from a player who has been lurking for some time now. William McGirt is -4 and 2 par 5's to finish round 3. Day is good but does not warrant the current price imho. I am laying him and laid Walker earlier at 9.00.
