Fair play to the American girls. Took that really well. Feel really bad for poor Alison lee.
By:
Looks like Charley a hull knows they were out of order. Pettersen definitely pushed that one.
By:
Ruined the event for me .
By:
Yes I agree that wasn't good. Should have made Hull putt that last one for the win.
By:
Agree chicken she should have putted that now we will never know.
By:
very odd. pettersen and hull looked like they were walking to the next hole. if they wanted her to putt surely you wait ?
By:
I agree it's been fantastic so far. The way I see it, CH was walking off the green on 17 after the missed putt. It must have been SP that stated that the putt wasn't given in the first place otherwise the referee would have said 'all square'. The arguing the fact that it was 2 to 3 feet, rather than 1 foot, is a disgrace. They should have sorted this out before they teed off at 18 as it could have further affected the match....ie CH could have had a birdie putt to ultimately win the match. This doesn't look good whichever way you look at it. Feel ashamed to be European at the moment.

Feel sorry for Suzanne Pettersen here, going to mark her for a long time and she's the only one who doesn't seem to realise it yet.
By:
Exactly john. Her reputation won't recover from this.
Don't feel sorry for her though, brought it all on herself. Really poor form. It's charley hull I feel sorry for. |
By:
I hear what you are saying John, but find it difficult to feel sorry for something that was all of her creating. What makes it worse is that she is still defending what she did.

I've backed Europe and I want the Yanks to win it.
Such a shame a great tournament will be affected by one silly moment like that. Laura Davies spot on. |
By:
Even if we give that match as a half, the damage is done.
Would be the right thing to do all the same. |
By:
On a personal level...wanted to back CH in singles but not too sure about her mental state now
By:
Just said exactly the same thing Fairbet. You could say that for the whole Europe team tbh.
The yanks probably value to win the whole thing from here |
By:
Sorry for asking but what has gone on this morning?
I have only just tuned in |
By:
I feel sorry for her because the line between the sheer competitive nature of this event - same goes for Ryder Cup - and the sportsmanship they keep going on about is going to get blurred now and again. Pettersen is one of the fiercest competitors on the tour, always one of the most popular, so in the moment it was just her instincts coming through. Not saying she is right, far from it, but the reaction is a bit OTT. Have enjoyed Laura Davies' commentary, but she was wrong in condemning the player as she did.

All square going down 17 in a fourball match. The young American Alison Lee had a ten footer to win the hole. Missed it and it was literally a foot away. The two Europe girls walked off as if it was conceded. The Anerican girl went and picked the ball up, then looked up as she realised they hadn't actually conceded it verbally. Peterson then said she was still thinking about it and hadn't conceded so took the hole. Charley Hull was playing with her is crying and in bits. She knows it was wrong. Peterson forced it.

Just seen it now

thanks

Yes, agree CCM....going to add a different dimenson to the singles for sure. John. I've had this happen to me in a match and it's not very nice I can tell you. Nevermind, a few million people seeing you bringing the integrity of golf to question. She's experienced enough to know better.
By:
Petersen clearly wrong. The yank Nicole Castale is going over the top - you can sense she doesn't want the match to be called a half - so Yanks can either win, or claim high moral ground
By:
5/1 USA! Makes sense for me to green up anyway, but think that's a big price considering where we are now.
By:
Fairbet, I actually had a similar experience on the course myself, a guy throwing me my ball after I'd played out of the sand to about 2 feet. I thought he was giving me the putt, turned out he'd just marked it and threw me the ball. So i'm walking towards next tee, and they're laughing and calling me back. I was so angry i didn't even trouble the hole. I'm sure it was illegal him marking my ball, but I didn't go down that road!
Anyway, glad at least there's a thread about the Solheim. It's been a great event to watch, and the commentary is just so superior to what you get at the regular tour events. Same at the Evian Championship last week. |
By:
Don't think 'the Yank' is going over the top. Perfectly fair assessment. Imagine if the boot was on the other foot.
Are the bookmakers bothering to price up the singles? |
By:
Don't think she is either. Think she's spot on.
The term Yank isn't a problem is it drum?! |
By:
The only positive that can be taken is that this isn't being played in the US!
By:
...posted on other thread..
Correct- in my mind whether it was 1ft, 3ft, 4ft is irrelevant - once the Europeans walked away it was tacit acknowledgement of a concession. Play a bit of team golf myself, nice one though, could keep it in the back burner for a critical moment ![]() |
By:
Let's hope Europe don't win by a single point or less. I know the damage is already done but a clear gap will make it easier to try and gloss over.
By:
Whole event has been tarnished now. Closing ceremonies usually involve numerous speeches emphasising fair play and sportsmanship.
A few amendments may need to be made to the pre prepared narratives! |

euro captain not seen in a good light in that interview
![]() ![]() |
By:
It gets worse. Karin Koch now trying to justify Pettersens actions! Not a hint of regret..
By:
inkster spoke very well in that interview putting the euro captain to shame
By:
Really surprised by that interview
By:
Easy to take the moral high ground though isn't it? Inkster was right, but it's pretty easy to say what she did.
Felt a bit sorry for Carin Koch tbh. She been out in an awkward position by Pettersen and couldn't really stand up the and slag her off. |
By:
koch is the captain not petterson could have given them the 18th all square and move on to the singles.
By:
I agree Nellie. But if she wasn't there when it happened and she asks her player Pettersen, who presumably was adamant she wasn't wrong, she's in a tricky position IMO.
Could have been stronger, but loathe to blame her tbh. |
