***THE MASTERS OPENING ROUND***

Amazing to think he didn't have playing rights anywhere 2 seasons ago

if Speith has got any sense he would steer well clear of N ike, their equipment is rubbish

All those slave wages in China though mean the athletes get an almighty paycheck

Nike please sign Speith up ASAP like tonight

amazing to think that between speith and mclroy that 1 razor blade could last them a year between the both of them.

geddon Kucher...make a late dart into contention

HAHAHAHAHAHA BLESSED AGAIN SPEITH

surprised at how good the scoring is today
and by so many players

late dart? its day one

spieth does look a bit agitated considering its only thursday

Spieth in danger of only making birdie there.

I'm calling speith will hit next chip fat

I think he will get it within 4ft

he's going so low today only has to play averagely next 3 rds
to make it very difficult to be overhauled

WTF Sergio.

garcia what a total waste of space

looks like spieth's showing last year was defo a flash in the pan

tiger + 2

let's talk about his chipping

half right money

spieth choking already

Can't believe Sky seem to have binned Rich Beem this week but I'm listening to Monty,Critchley and McGinley

Nothing wrong with that chip, smart play

Given the way he putts he's about 7/4 to hole this anyway

No Mark Roe however

Small mercy Sandsave

what a shocking putt

walofs

nice tip from mcginley

making a mess of this hole is Jordan

Can't believe he took 6 from a perfect drive there

Hope Tiger gets priced up around 25/1 rest of season as I think he will win this year

hibbee, 25s not price mate , he hits all sorts of dire shots , drives , did you see the three wood off the fairway , aideways duff, pros don't  hit many shots like that, for him to lay ell for 72 holes takes a huge leap of faith

I think he actually looks like he might be fit though which wasn't the case last 12 months. It was only 2 years ago he won what 5 times on tour??

Might be biased cos he is genuinely a sporting hero of mine tho

in fairness sickof its his first start in months sure tiger will work it out and win again health permitting

speith bogey not shown

yeah it was

why's he shouting out 'tiger' when his name's eldrick?

big difference  is everyone used to cr ap themselves when he got on the leaderboard now they don't blink an eyelid, hell ha e to win tourneys they wont be thrown to him anymore cos of the fear factor

Spieth has looked an amazing world beater and is -7 with a tricky 2 putt to come. Day should go to -3 through 13 and looks to have done nothing special whatsoever. JD built for this course.

maybe but he bottled one Masters & he's still a choker

Does the fact he seems to struggle to seal the deal worry you about Day tho Rhino? Think he's an ideal man for match bets round here but always seems to struggle to finish tournaments off

whoa that close-up of tiger
as he's got older really looking like his old fella in the boat

in fairness in sick off we haven't seen him up in contention against the new breed. Most of whom you can count their wins on one hand. In 2013 he got in contention a few times and won five times going away from the field.

Stetson 3 birdies in a row to get to + 1

That will change happy. Better player than he was two years ago when he almost won here, last year ruined by injuries. Healthy this year and has bagged one already. Think that form book about him bottling is still somewhat relevant, but I'm expecting big things.

stenson

I think he is hugely talented but just question if he's another Kuchar who will churn out top 10's easily but probably not convert as many as he should

tiger dumb @ss

Twice as much talent as Kuch.

still can't drive the ball straight tiger

Woods sorts out his chipping then his driving goes, sounds familiar

That may prove to be true in time Rhino

It's the fact that he brings it on the toughest courses happy. Mark of a great player.

Yeah he's definitely a player who seems to save his best for the biggest of events. I actually think he might win a US Open in time

i think itsmore of a problem  for day than just not generally getting it done,  think hes not got great mental strength and ill throw many winning chances away.

is that a graphite shaft on day's wedge?

Garcia

Think day best bet currently very solid and swinging very easily

he just Hooked it left

lol ^

lol ^

A lot of twists and turns to go yet. An hour ago people were asking how many Speith would win by.

Had to happen

Stop it Spieth

Jason Day is definitely going to finish second.

Long way to go but think Day will win over the 4 days playing
for fun and smiling great sign Speith seems a bit under
pressure albeit rsponding well

day more skill than luck today

1st shot Jamie --Ryder cup winner-- lol

I really have a strong strong disliking for Jason Day. After chucking 2013 away because he choked on day 3 and 4 on the final two holes when I had backed him at 33/1. I am sitting on a nice chunk e/w on Henley first round leader at 80/1. He is in the last group of the day with the worst conditions of all yet hits 5 birdies in a row to knock me out of a place and make me bubble. Ridiculous. The only positive is that I'm sitting on Henley at 150/1 outright so hope he can knock in another 68 for me tomorrow

you hate him because he gave your bet a big chance of winning?

As far as im concerned only way Spieth loses is if Mcilroy turns into superhuman Mcilroy

how many 1st round leaders have their been, then go on to win

I remember immelman because I backed for a tenner

there  is a long way to go mike

Ok if you're on Speith but what an anti-climax this is going to be for everyone else who's had a win bet.

WORTH KEEPING TRACK OF THE “critical holes” for Augusta National.

The critical holes in any tournament are the ones where the top finishers typically gain the most strokes on the field, as well as where the greatest deviation in scores exist.

One of the interesting aspects about critical holes is that they often change over time due to changes in the course conditions, course design or a change in player strategy, which can create a smaller deviation in scores. This year, the projected Critical Holes are #6, #8, #13, #14 and #15. I also include #5 due to the added 40yds.

Typically, the critical holes have been projected to be only one of the par-5s. But, the trend over the past five years now has a projection of three par-5s (#8, #13 and #15) being ‘Critical Holes’ which indicates that some added distance gains by the players may be impacting how the event is determined.

In all, the hole produced 24 bogeys and a pair of double bogeys, inflicting some damage on those near the top of the leader board. Justin Harding and Jon Rahm each shot 69 but bogeyed No. 5. So did Tiger Woods, who finished with a two-under-par 70. Paul Casey, thought by many to be a potential contender this week, earned one of the doubles.
