Catch Me ifyoucan • March 24, 2015 2:58 PM GMT Marc Warren was runner-up in the Qatar Masters - birdied four of the final six holes in a 5-under-par 36-31=67 but missed out on a playoff after he had moved into a four-way tie for the lead after the third round. In a continuation of the superb form he showed in Qatar, the three-time European Tour winner blitzed the Emirates Golf Club with a 66 and 7-under-par 33-32=65 to take the clubhouse lead at the halfway mark of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic with 13-under, eventually posting 73, 71 for a T13. The 33-year-old Scot continues to be one of the European Tour's form players in early 2015 and Marc stayed strong with a closing 4-under-par 34-34=68 to take solo ninth in the Malaysian Open. In the True or False Thailand Classic at Black Mountain Warren finished T25 and at the recent watery WGC - Cadillac Championship posted 73,75,69,72 for a T17.

Even at the tougher US Opens you usually see a number of guys a few under par at this stage. Weather must be playing havoc. Forecast suggests wind will drop a bit this afternoon, then start of calm and get stronger through the day tomorrow, which suggests this wave have well and truly got the shaft.

currently averaging almost +0.4 per HOLE! that's about a course average of 79, although there are some par 5s at the back end of each 9 (so easier holes not played as much yet) and wind will probably calm a little so I imagine that will come down during the day. some of the hardest scoring I can remember though

Safe to say DJ is riding his luck today. Only hit one fairway through 12 holes off the tee. So much luck involved when you go into the native areas as rocks and bushes everywhere.

scrap what I said about some easier holes at the end of each 9, the par 5s look some of the harder holes.
do people think the wind is going to die down much for the afternoon starters then? http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/san_antonio_intl_airport reckons a little bit

A VERY ‘VALERO’ VELCOME to the TEXAS OPEN from http://www.tpc.com/sanantonio the host venue for the last five years. The third-longest running event on TOUR that first began back in 19.22.
So dig out those Lucchese boots once again, as we remember the Alamo and Waco, and leave all those Honky Tonks to Robert Allenby et al as we spend the next two weeks in his Lone Star State of mind before heading to Houston next week.
This OPEN is played on the Oaks Course where the par 5's are tough to birdie, the shortest being 565 yds with these greens having some very distinct slopes and multi-tiered pin positions and even a bunker in the middle of the green ffs - what planet was Greg Norman living on back in 2009 – the ‘Shark’ did the same in his design of Doonbeg GC, but without the help of Sergio Garcia’s design input, that he had here. Martin Hawtree is ripping up Trump’s Doonbeg as we speak.
The 4th most difficult non-major course on TOUR in 20.12 and the hardest par 72 on TOUR in 20.11 is part of the Texas ‘Two Step’ - not to be confused with the ‘Texas Slam’ won by Adam Scott last year. Also the highest one-putt percentage course on TOUR last year although it certainly is not a birdie fest.
Thursdays grind is over and ‘moving day’ is brought forward to Friday as it gives way to pleasant sunshine in a tad lighter breeze. The very windy, but sunny, conditions are set to return again for another grind on Saturday afternoon.
Rhino, The last two editions of this event have moved to just ahead of the Masters (instead of behind it) hence it should mean the field received a step up in class.

Not much of a moving day so far, just more bad scores. It's not that breezy today so if no-one can get a reasonable score going it suggests they've got the course a bit wrong. I suspect a number of guys won't be back in the future.

Very clever is the hoffmeister. Realized he was too close to the top of the leaderboard and is getting himself a good way back to make a charge on Sunday.

Sony Open Champ Walker is enjoying another outstanding season with four top 10s (including the win) in nine starts and no missed cuts. A win this week would be his fifth on the PGA Tour and perhaps the sweetest of all as this one would come in his home state.
Jimmy took advantage of the scoring holes here at TPC San Antonio, racking up birdies on each of the four par 5s and the drivable par-4 17th + he also birdied the 6th and added three bogeys to his card yesterday. He ranks tied for tops in the GIR field and first in strokes gained putting.
I expect he will hold on and win and would be the first player in 2014-15 to pick up multiple wins on the PGA TOUR. Bookies agree at 2/1 on. The recent trend has been for 54-hole leaders to struggle, but Walker's cushion will be too big for Spieth 3/1 to master.

This venue has been kind to maiden winners and DANIEL SUMMERHAYS certainly fits the bill. With back-to-back top 10s at Valero combined with five straight cuts made entering this week, he‘s trending. ONE that was on my radar this week (pity no bet) and looks likely to finish with a T5.
Last week was the first week since Pebble Beach that there wasn’t a playoff on TOUR - that was Stenson’s fault, and to my cost.
Blame WALKER this week.
