Twenty Ten Course - TOUGH - BEAUTIFUL - INTERESTING - What more could u ask for...

STYLE - Hmmm bit of a mix really, heard it called a links and yes most of the front nine is, and the rest erm, tiny bit but the back nines problems stem more from the 6 holes with water hazards.
It's superb IMO - makes the players think, has options on most of the tee's - risk and reward was a term invented for this course - HARD aswell scores likely not to break - 10.
Pretty flat course but again some great elevations towards the back end 14th being an example.

Right then what's needed to win
simalar to last week in the sense, this is a course designed for the ryder cup, you need all parts of your game to work if you want to contend.

favouring a style i would have to say your IRONS are most important, hit them greens and u have hope, miss em too often and even with furyk or phils skills, it wont help.
Think your going to hear most of your "tipsters" telling u length is irrelevant, i don't believe that, yes it is winnable without, but it takes a whole lot of the teeth out of this course if u can hit it long and find greens,, Accuracy will punish REALLY bad stuff severely, but you don't have to be centre fairway either, gives you a bit of room for slight quirks with the driver.

With that in mind i've picked a couple of my team already, but have a little way to go b4 i'm done i think.

PAUL CASEY - 18 on here, Hate the price but seems things are lined up for him to grab a double, Would be silly not to win from it, 1)Won last week 2)simalar needs for course 3) Was 1st in greens hit 4) was 4th in distance 5) deserves to rub his missing the ryder cup debacle in one more time :)).

TOMMY FLEETWOOD - 50 on here a great price, in good heart at the moment and altho a little quiet last week, i think he has the sort of game which could see him go far in this.

More to come, biggest problem is stevie g,luiten, willet, wattel plus others have really strong reasons they should be considered, but I'll only back one more shortie at most, they don't always win and theres some live guys fuRther down the market...

Good Luck if you have a go, with there being no American - THIS COURSE IS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT!!!!

i found it a dull course, dunno why

i,ve backed peter uihlein, 50/1 each way

good luck with yours

Really donny? surprises me, i suppose on certain years if the weather is real bad, it becomes too much risk for the reward, and if no one goes for any it would be more of a plod.
Dont worry though weathers supposed to be nice, bit of wind but here i'd assume thats pretty normal.

Great choice uihein, was/is high in my list, but really am struggling to shorten it, thinking i'm gunna just leave it with the two from the top end of the market and do my outsiders, i have 11 of them lol, 2 in the 100s, 2 in the 200s, two in the 300s, two in the 600s and 3 between 800 and a 1000.
oh and of course having a wee nibble of homeboy Dredge Happy
Report bigH September 16, 2014 8:08 PM BST
I played it the day after Scott Strange won the Wales Open on it.

Course was in great nick but the rough was brutal.

The holes felt a bit samey, but still a very good test
Report donny osmond September 16, 2014 8:11 PM BST
dredge has had a fair few top tens over the years at the course

not sure theres too much value left in his price, but youve had a decent run from him,

i see betfair sportsbook cut dougherty from 1000 to 750/1

that made me chuckle
Report vegasdreams September 16, 2014 8:24 PM BST
yeah a few top tens but the reason i aren't shouting him from the rooftops is they were all b4 2008 - since them major course changes he's had 3 MC a 53rd and a 18th, not that he can't win, was pretty much gone at the game during that period, now he's sorted himself on home turf, it's a brave man who lays him imo.

not for me, putting screws him, showed a glimmer of sorting it couple of weeks back, but can't maintain decent level for 4 rounds imo.

not a real fan of european tour regulation stuff.......probably down to a crap strike rate but no choice this week.....
two selections damien mcgrane 600/1......cant see him winning but should be a trade in him
JACQUELINE do fancy this lad out of form this year but showed some form last week.....he had a nice run of form in 2013 and if back to that sort of form big chance here 150/1 decent price.
hard to know what affect playing the ryder cup next week will have on the players involved but not getting involved with any of the shroties.........gd luck with ur plays

Shane Lowry 40/1

James Morrison 125/1

Richard Bland 200/1
Report Colldogg September 17, 2014 3:41 AM BST
Again, I've not got a great strike rate on the European Tour either but unfortunately no other choice this week.

Emiliano Grillo is my main selection. I think he's due a big one sooner or later and a real star for the future. He has got the game and just needs to start getting some W's.

Also done Thorbjorn Oleson and Chris Wood ew up to now. Both showed good form the past few weeks and can see them both going well on this kind of course.

Probably going to add 1 or 2 more players before Thursday. Seve Benson and Thomas Pieters are probably other outsiders I'm going to do. Benson for his good course record at both Celtic Manor and France which is a similar course. Pieters because a bit like Grillo I think he's a talent who has the ability to be a top player when it all clicks in to place. Very good with his irons too which will be important around here.

I get the love for Uileihn too and he's another possible. A proven European tour winner and looks like he is starting to hit a good run of form now. This is the time last year he hit top form and he got a 2nd. That's the 5 I am having anyway and I won't talk myself in to adding anymore now Excited
Report the muppet moans September 17, 2014 11:49 AM BST
This week we have the Wales Open from Celtic Manor where I am happy to leave alone any Ryder Cuppers who I am sure will have their thoughts elsewhere. I really do like the look of Simon Dyson again but not at the price and I am sure Ed Molinari will get another victory soon. The man I was keen to back was Paul Waring but his price is just too short in my opinion - instead I have come up with three picks at varying prices and a first round leader bet as well.
Thongchai Jaidee has been having a great year and having finally got a win on European soil here two years ago he added another in the Nordea Masters. He also came close with a 5th in Germany and may well have added a third victory in France where he came unstuck early on the Sunday in poor weather before rallying to finish tied 2nd. Talking of the weather then he will feel more at home in Wales this weekend where conditions will be unseasonably warm and humid with the chance of a thunderstorm - much more like Thailand! I don't usually like backing players who have won an event before but he has proven that he can win at the same venue in the Far East having done it three times which is most unusual. The key to playing well at Celtic Manor appears to be solid GIR stats and whilst he only managed 26th in his title defence he was 3rd in that category. There is a little bit of doubt over his fitness as I expected him back from his break in Thailand last week but I still think he is worth a decent bet 0.5 ew 45/1
Last year Gregory Bourdy finally converted at Celtic Manor having held some great GIR stats on previous visits - indeed he had ranked 1st and 2nd twice before converting so that may well inspire fellow Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin to follow suit. He was 2nd in that category here in 2008 on his debut when 3rd outright and 4th in 2010. Jacquelin can sometimes hit terrible spells of form where his mind wonders away from golf and that has certainly been the case this summer but his last two events have shown him in a much better light - especially last week when a solid 11th. We were on him in Spain when he won last season so maybe he can strike again for us 0.3 ew 125/1
I have reverted back to a left field pick for this week in the shape of Johan Carlsson who sprinted through the field last week with a final round 63 to finish tied 5th. We haven't seen much of this talented guy in the last nine months when he was being sent off at 50 or 66/1 but that maybe because he seems to like this time of the year! If you are into your bio-rhythms then you will be pleased to know this week last year he won on the Challenge tour by an impressive seven shots and the year before that won his maiden Nordea title at the same time. Maybe its coincidence but with his liking for this time of the year and an impressive top ten strike rate he is worthy of inclusion 0.15 ew 200/1 + 0.2 top 10 14/1
Lastly I will give Ricardo Ganzalez another crack to be first round leader - he crops up regularly in this market and has posted some low numbers around here. He finished with a 64 in Crans and in his last two starts has been 2nd and 4th for GIR 0.1 ew 125/1 FRL

Hoping one or two in contention tomorrow.

Looks to me like they have put some friendly pins out there today, early scoring very good.

Lowry is a fave of mine but on this occasion i'm laying him, he's scrapped out two good rounds with a lot of help from the flatstick but can't see him been able to keep that up, and with low scores out there i suspect he will be a couple behind after end of play.

Having a descent punt colsearts, if it's set up so they can get close to the pins, his tee to green play is one of the best on tour and could go very low especially with his new found confident look over the putts - If he has found something putting, watch out he will win alot of tournaments, next years race to Dubai maybe a distinct possibility.

Added Moli and Warren from my green on Havret.

Joost although playing very well never grabs me R4, and Lowry although well capable of birdie runs looked a little like running out of gas today. I could well be wrong as both are more than capable of winning this tomorrow by 3 or 4 but ill chance Gregory having a going Sunday as he is well due, and also a fast start from Edi or Marc. I also have JB and Colsearts but think they have far too much to do.

Here is hoping the front 2 kill themselves out front... Unlikely but possible.

Enjoy Wink
