US Open - early thoughts

Added Dufner and Walker, all done and dusted, starting position set. Very happy, for the miniscule liability of $35, i have the following:

Bubba +1765
DJ +165
Webb +1545
Dufner +1765
Walker +2065
Bradley +1080
Haas +1315
Horschel +715
Kirk +465
Todd +2965
Palmer +177
Na +2452
Cink +1058

Not bad.

How far can they push Dustbin out to ? Injured ?

thats some book rhino!!!! i have lots of mates full time pro gamblers and traders who would litterly pay thousands of pounds a week to do that with a book!!!!!

well played sir!

Love a good major drift pre off frames. Do you remember Dusty before The Open at St Georges? Was 50s all week then out to 85/90 in the last 24 hours. Not sure if he's injured, that dodgy performance last week perhaps? had a similar poor round in Houston before The Masters and went MC at Augusta. People remember these things.

Thanks Vegas. It was about 1.8K in and out so not quite thousands.

Not much mention of Blixt. I think this course will really suit him and he still looks a bet at 80/1 to me.

Just seen Palmer has tipped him, which has tempered my enthusiasm.

Yes I do remember that Rhino ,seem to remember he started ok as well.

Expected a bigger army than that therhinio......Quincio will be along later with a minimum of 30......i've just got past 20 for now.

Dustin's odds will come in tomorrow.....

I gone for all ew.

English,
Kirk,
Fowler,
Blixt
Justin Thomas.

Hoping at leas one of them places. From the guys nearer the head of the market I think Phil will have a good week but obviously can't back him at them odds given his form this year and the FBI hanging over him.

Sorry to disappoint ski, but it ain't the size of the army, it's the quality of the troops, and the heat they're packing

Went a different route this time, wanted sizeable greens on quality as opposed to numerous greens on hit and miss players. Very satisfied that everything I backed heavily in relation to my bank came in, didn't have to take a red anywhere which doesn't happen every week.

I agree about quality........but this can be won by some obscure player. Pays to get as much trades done and hopefully the top 10 covered by Sunday.

Brett Stegmaier, Cody Gribble, Smylie Kaufman and Maverick McNealy could only be competitors in a U S Open.

Just added casey wittenberg to my team .finished 10th two years ago and from the vicinity of course so hopefully played it a lotin the past .really need to call that the last of team macca

Just finished finalising my team..

Phil Mickleson 4 points eachway.

The boy is ready for his US Open.

Morning everyone. Looks like the morning starters are going to get the best of the weather and a chance to put up a decent score.

Added Webb Simpson to my team of one. Still looking though.

Mahan, Koepka, Baddeley

Very surprised if they don't run 1,2,3.

I like Sergio, but give him much less than a 1 in 33 chance of winning this week.

As for who I do like, I've gone for proven Major performers - Day, McDowell and Cabrera.

Still mulling over Bubba and Kaymer.

Hey Meng. I just e-mailed Betfair advising the forum is not working properly and has once again only posted one of your mammoth list of backs. It seems you are being unfairly treated and as you are one of the good guys, I got your back mate. This shabby treatment won't go unpunished

useless with these timezones - i'm right in thinking the first tee offs are 11.45am uk time yeah? cheers.
bar any bets i will use this thread for discussion now,has most  info in it.

My predictions , course because of a bit of rain playable first 2 days , leading score after 36 holes around -3 , cut around +7 , course toughens over weekend , greens lightning fast , winning score around +2 , I've had 2 bets scott at 15/1 with billy hills e/w 1st 6 and the 6/5 with bet 364 about 1 player or less under par , good luck all .

its discrimination Rhino i'm teling you, i will complain also, goodluck on your picks, they don't mind putting all yours up for you. bastards

Damn straight mate. The whole freakin system is out of order. Just been discussing golf lately, never asked, how bloody good was House of Cards season 2?

I burned through the whole thing in about 3 days Only another 9 months to wait

Ski-wiz, Quincio has only 14 thus far.  Scrubbed the bombers and Sergio. Might add McIlroy and a bit on Westwood (even though I know he can't win). I'll wait for the rest of yours and then add a few more.

I'm glad I bet on Brian Stuard - NOT!

Just 24 from me Quincio.

I looked at the photos of the course and to be honest i wasn't impressed. It looked no better than a typical municipal golf course. Hopefully the photos are out of date and the course is better than what i saw. After all photos don't lie.

Presume YOU also meant what you said

Yes i do. When i saw a clip about an hour ago comparing the course in 2005 and now......i knew i was right.

ALWAYS ALWAYS been a TOP course ffs

even par over 72 holes wins this I think.

The designers of NO 2. (Bill Coole / Ben Crenshaw) also did this...

Fair to say it bucketed down for at least a short period

Can't see DONALD and BLIXT (both +7) makin' the w/end.

Back High LL,

........and KAYMER was hoping they would WATER AFTER PLAY yesterday.........GOD is on his side this week !

Feel like a pop group. Dire Straits.

I'm guessing that a few double bogey's for Kaymer would make you feel better Quincy???

And everybody else that's not on him for that matter!

sheppy123, £11 on Kaymer @ 55, took my stake out @ 4.6.  He isn't the problem.  It's all dummies that missed the cut, and the fancied ones that I didn't back. Not in any real trouble now.  A bit of evasive action with Bradley and Koepka required.

Added Brendan Todd and K Na.

24 made the cut.

Haven't done the figures yet, Ski.  Could well be that 24 of my army missed the cut. I've also added Na and Todd. Of the original team, Snedeker and De Jonge are my biggest winners.

Bradley is doing my head in, I missed him @ 100. put a bet in at 120 and got matched, literally all bar one penny. Not a big loser but still a loser. I can't back him at 38.

The only thing i'm 'worried' about is Koepka and Jonge. Out of 24, 10 are under par, 2 are par....the rest will have their greens dump asap.

Ski-Wiz, in a perfect world, De Jonge would shorten so that I can lay him, and Koepka would lengthen so that I can back him. So we know what is likely to happen, don't we.  Going to start by backing Kaymer as a back to lay at 8 or 9 clicks shorter.

Six players (7 times) have won the U.S. Open in wire-to-wire fashion (no ties):
Walter Hagen (1914), James Barnes (1921), Ben Hogan (1953), Tony Jacklin (1970), Tiger Woods (2000, 2002) and Rory McIlroy (2011).

Players who have won majors in the same season as their victory at THE PLAYERS:
Tiger Woods (2001 Masters), Hal Sutton (1983 PGA Championship) and Jack Nicklaus (1978 Open Championship).

Sixty-six professionals and one amateur at 5-over 145 from a field of 145 professionals and 11 amateurs made the cut.
The cut at Pinehurst No. 2 came at 7-over in 1999 and 8-over in 2005.
Matthew Fitzpatrick was the only amateur to make the cut, ensuring he will earn low-amateur honours.
He also was low amateur at the 2013 Open Championship. He intends to turn pro next week.

Making his eighth U.S. Open start, Masters champion Bubba Watson posted rounds of 76-70 to miss the cut by one stroke.
He is the only reigning Masters champion since 1995 to miss the cut at the U.S. Open, doing so in 2012 and 2014.

The best finish by a PLAYERS Championship winner at the U.S. Open (same season):
Hal Sutton (6th in 1983), Jack Nicklaus (T6 in 1978) and Greg Norman (T6 in 1994).

Kaymer WILL BE the first player to win the U.S. Open and PLAYERS in the same season.

they say its a 2nd shot course bit of prove there leanard horrible with his irons

Ski-Wiz 14 Jun 14 12:32
Added Brendan Todd and K Na.

24 made the cut.

Amazed, only 11 of my original 33 missed the cut.  All of the additional 11 are still standing.

Kaymer needs 68 today to set mark for lowest total score through 54 holes at a US Open. A 3rd 65 for any major.

Mickelson finds himself 13 strokes behind Kaymer’s lead.

The largest deficit made up after 36 holes is 11 by Lou Graham in 1975.

Brendon Todd spun a bogey-free, 3-under-par 33-34=67 in his second round of the 114th U.S. Open to post 4-under 136 at the midpoint, six strokes adrift of Martin Kaymer's overnight lead.

Todd missing only one of 14 fairways and four greens in regulation on Day 2 while rallying for three birdies.
It's considerably more than anyone could have expected in his debut in a major, but it's merely an extension of his recent torrid form.

JUST IN CASE you missed it.....

Hunter Mahan and Jamie Donaldson were penalized two strokes each for hitting the other's golf ball on approach at the par-4 18th hole in the second round of the U.S. Open.

The short story is that Mahan's caddie, John Wood, misidentified his boss' ball.
Both balls were marked similarly and everyone involved was fooled by the bounce of Mahan's tee ball.
It wasn't until Donaldson went to mark his ball on the green that the error was realized.

In addition to the penalty, Mahan and Donaldson retreated to the original spots of their tee balls and finished the hole. Both signed for a 6.
Wood's gaffe cost him a payday as Mahan reached the midpoint in 6-over-par 74-72=146.

The cut line is 5-over 145. While aggravating, it's no sweat off the Englishman's back as he posted 11-over 70-81=151.

Granted, they each had nine holes remaining after the saga, but neither mounted a charge.
"I still can’t grasp what happened; it doesn’t make any sense to me," Wood said.
"You’re out here for 17 years, every day, and you know where the ball goes."

Bubba Watson clawed back with an even-par 36-34=70 in his second round of the 114th U.S. Open, but missed the cut on the number at 6-over 146.

Sixty-seven golfers survived the 36-hole cut of low 60 and ties.

Watson traded four birdies with four bogeys at Pinehurst No. 2 today, but he'll leave town knowing that he simply didn't produce enough opportunities to break par and play on. The left gathered only 19 greens in regulation.
Ignoring his withdrawal from Bay Hill due to allergies, this is his first official missed cut since last year's PGA Championship.

Other notables that failed to survive today include:

146--2007 champ Ángel Cabrera; Charl Schwartzel; Luke Donald; Jason Dufner; Hunter Mahan; Miguel Angel Jiménez ...

147--2006 champ Geoff Ogilvy; John Senden; David Toms ...

148--2009 champ Lucas Glover; Lee Westwood; Matt Every; Ryan Palmer ...

150--Graham DeLaet ...

153--Jonas Blixt.

Martin Kaymer's scoring average for the third and fourth rounds of the U.S. Open (10 rounds): 72.9.

*** US Women's OPEN ***

Rain & thunderstorm atm but the forecast is good for the rest of the week.

Fluff caddies for Lydia Ko at Pinehurst this week after his partnership with Jim Furyk last week.

That's right, the veteran caddy gets a second bite at the cherry to bag a US Open Champion.
A move Callaway were calling The Double Fluff - alas it was not to be - Furyk T12 at +3 with 73,70,73,67.

.....I'm sure he won't mind banging just one bit of Fluff on Sunday night !
