Still not convinced he will get the job done, but think this is his best chance getting out earlier than leaders and maybe win by posting a score.
Report King Cally April 13, 2014 1:41 PM BST
Yep, I think he is in a nice position. He wont be thinking he can win it, so should take some pressure off. Needs to hole those 6 footers though!
Report Lufc86 April 13, 2014 2:17 PM BST
How many times have we been here before lads? He doesnt get it done when it matters.
Report King Cally April 13, 2014 2:46 PM BST
True. And he looks too short in the betting. But I like where he is on the leaderboard, he is hitting the ball as well as anyone, and there is frailty wherever you look. If he can hole a few putts early (unlikely), and not think about it (unlikely), he may just shoot low enough to give himself a chance. I would like him to win, but dont think he is value to do so!
Report Knight Rider April 13, 2014 2:52 PM BST
The problem for Westwood is the winning score will probably be around -6.  So you are asking him to shoot 68 in the tough late conditions.  Looking at yesterday's scores this seems very unlikely, certainly not a 1 in 14 chance.  In truth he's probably reliant on all the leaders having a mare, which is possible of course at Augusta.
Report mengmeng April 13, 2014 2:55 PM BST
yeah i would atleast have him the same price as furyk
Report TheVis April 13, 2014 5:37 PM BST
If you do back him just make sure you get some back if he starts hitting birdies
Report aberdonia April 13, 2014 6:28 PM BST
ive backed Furyk to beat him in a 2 ball, quite a big bet.

so get on him, he will now shoot 66

CANT PUTT CANT WIN
Report Vubiant April 13, 2014 8:11 PM BST
W's putting still a joke after all these years.
He's just checked in with a 3 putt from 8 ft.Laugh
Report Dan Chipowski April 13, 2014 8:18 PM BST
Typical Lee, sh!t away his chance early. Then when the pressure is off he'll pick up and start wondering what could have been.
Report broadsword April 13, 2014 8:20 PM BST
if only hed aim for the edge of the hole
Report laman April 13, 2014 8:25 PM BST
The biggest golf bottler, bar none. Vowed never to back him in a major a couple of years ago. I think he deserves more stick than Montgomerie. Shame, but it is definitely a mental thing now.

Next reporter who asks LW about a major had better be wearing a reinforced suit of armour.
Report Clerkmore April 13, 2014 11:26 PM BST
These ridiculous threads start up at every major.

Lee Westwood had no chance today nor will he ever win a major. End of story.

And true to form, he is interviewed and says how well he's playing!
Report slip5 April 13, 2014 11:47 PM BST
he still believes he can do it
Report marychain1 April 14, 2014 8:06 AM BST
He would be a much better player if he lined up each putt between 5-12 feet, then tossed a coin and if it came up heads aimed 6 inches left of his orginal line, or 6 inches right if it came up tails. He would then hole 50% of his putts, virtually quadrupling his current ratio.
Report throwthetellyoutawindow April 14, 2014 10:01 AM BST
Jack Nicklaus summed him up perfectly when he said he just can't get it done in majors he just can't get the ball in the hole, you've got to get the ball in the hole.

It can't be taught it's a mind thing a game within a game.
Report currant bun April 14, 2014 10:52 AM BST
is he pissed yet?
Report Kelly April 14, 2014 11:18 AM BST
As Throw says , Lee cant get the ball into the hole as often as others with lesser ball striking qualities . Played well in this tournament  , reckon thats  about his best 72 holes since he relocated , which must give his followers ( I am not among those specifically ) hope .

poulter tweets he can win the masters if he can sort out par 5s

The day Westy wins a major will be the day i will have serious head injury via fainting.
Report King Cally April 14, 2014 3:18 PM BST
How often does a bad putter win a major?
Report mafeking April 14, 2014 8:15 PM BST
only way you can see him winning one is if he posts a score and then someone else hands it to him like when curtis or ogilvy won

hard to see him winning it on the course

despite his multitude of worldwide wins he's still never really won a big tournament
Report GoBallistic April 14, 2014 9:24 PM BST
His putting was ok this week. 1.65 putts per hole - about average at Augusta and better than Spieth for example
Report mengmeng April 14, 2014 10:05 PM BST
that putting state doesnt tell the whole story tho.
Report throwthetellyoutawindow April 14, 2014 10:51 PM BST
Yeah the really top players make those 10-15 feet putts when it matters game changers as they say and Lee does not believe he can do it and he's most times correct,he can't. Sad
Report BARROWBOY April 15, 2014 8:51 AM BST
pity he couldnt fluke one early in his career he would probably have won a few by now.blamed his failure this time on not taking advantage on the par 5s,but we can all see the putting is generally his big weakness, always looks to me like hes frightened stiff of giving himself a 4 footer back so never putts hard enough to take some of the break out like confident putters do.btw.the masters was ruined for me by them over watering the greens for the final round, they were playing a different course on the final day
