I know the stuffs who run the tournament want the crowd to be always referred to as the patrons, but why does everyone go along with it? It's an invitational event, but I'd imagine if the top twenty players had a chat and decided that they weren't going to be told what words they were allowed to use, that the tournament would not exclude them. The same goes for the TV companies. It is a ridiculous, bullying dynamic which smacks a little of historical Deep South bigotry. I cant believe the top golfers in the world allow themselves to be dictated to in this way.

If you don't you won't get an invitation back.

Attention binary thinkers: it is possible to dislike one minor element of the tournament's tradition at the same time as enjoying the tournament as a whole.

Have the Masters committee ever invited anyone back who have not gained their place? or stopped anyone playing who has? the only difference with the Masters is that they don't have a PQ event as far as I know.
