Kyle Stanley hasn't exactly been pulling up trees this season, but 80/1 E/W against this lot of ifs and buts, seems a fair price.

Also had a wee bit of Big Bad Bob @ 66/1 E/W, and Spencer Levin E/W @ 125/1. Levin was top ten here 2 years ago, and looks to have recovered from a dodgy thumb. It's a thumbs up for me.

Horrible event to pick a winner. 3 times at Cordevalle, Mediate won out of nowhere, and the only thing I can find as a trend for Molder and Blixt the last 2 years was being 1st time winners who played well in Vegas the week before. No Vegas beforehand this yesr though, but will back a form runner chasing his first win in Hideki Matsuyama. Taken 26s. Won't be doing much else before the weekend, an event to exercise caution before the field thins in play.

Let's hope that the Californian sun shines this week and we get no weather delays. If Cali and Vegas next week can't get us through without interruption, time to relocate the Tour.

maybe hideki will give ishikawa a frickin injection of life. i cant remember the last time he contended.

he's multi talented tho that ishikawa. having so much spare time on weekends, he can indulge in his other hobby of riding horses at warwick farm to supplement his income. he's so brazen he sometimes even does this on wednesdays Laugh

This is the fourth staging of the Frys.com event from the Cordevalle course in California and looking at the three winners there does appear a connection in that they all had some good Californian form although they all came up just shy. Mediate of course had his battle with Tiger in the US Open at Torrey Pines, Molder twice had a chance to win the AT&T at Pebble Beach whilst Blixt lost a good lead in the Soboba Classic on the Web.com tour. This is were I concentrated my efforts but added a few other thoughts as this year instead of being an event where people were making a last chance dash for their cards it is the first event of the new PGA season.
Spencer Levin missed nine months of golf through injury and only came back in July getting eight starts on the Web.com tour before starting this year on a medical extension. He showed in those starts that he still retains his ability with a 2nd, 7th and 10th. Whilst he hasn't won on the main tour he did win three times on the Canadian tour including in California where he was born and raised and still lives. He has nearly won at Pebble Beach before and was 7th here at Cordevalle in 2011 so is very happy on Californian greens 0.3 ew 125/1
Jhonattan Vegas is another player coming back from injury - this time having undergone shoulder surgery in February and he has tweeted that his shoulder has got better every week of his last four events on the Web.com tour. The layers seem to have forgotten that a fit Vegas was 4th at Congressional and 7th at Sawgrass last year. He has a really strong record in California stemming from being a losing semi-finalist in the US Amateur at Olympic to winning the Bob Hope and finishing 3rd at Torrey Pines in 2011. He was 22nd last year having started brilliantly before his shoulder flared up and I have backed him outright 0.25 ew 200/1 and for round one leader 0.1 ew 150/1
Ted Potter is probably an even more surprising pick but he does have something in common with last years winner Jonas Blixt - they have both won the Greenbrier Classic at the Old White course (plus Potter was 6th this year) and lots of other players have done well at both venues. His other best finishes of 2013 were 16th at Pebble Beach and 10th at Torrey Pines and he also won the Soboba Classic in California on the Web.com tour. As a player who can find his form and win from nowhere he is worth supporting at 200/1 - 0.15 ew
Last player in Ben Martin is different from the other picks in that he has no form in California but he is the wrong price in my opinion. In his last eleven starts he has had five top six finishes and two wins and has finally fulfilled the potential he showed as an amateur. John Peterson is all the rage this week after five consecutive top five finishes but Martin can top that with the two wins so why is he double the price. He did play here back in 2011 in his first failed attempt on tour and improved with every round which should bode well for this week 0.3 ew 66/1

I'm heading east for my 3 picks in this. One of them an old timer hopefully on the way back and two promising youngsters who haven't lived upto what was expected of them over the last season or so.

Ishikawa - His countryman Matsuyama seems to be the main focus of attention this week but consecutive top 10s in the last three events of the web.com finals suggests this guys game is on the way back. He's also gone sub 70 in his last 6 rounds. He's never shown any great consistency results wise stateside but hopefully Matsuyamas achievments earlier in the year will spur this fella on.Let's not forget he's managed two top 10s in WGC events in America over the last few years also.Gone e/w @80s.

Noh - Only decided to play in three of the four web.com finals events but that was a luxury he could afford after winning the third of them,The Nationwide Childrens Hospital Championship. Also finished in the top 10 in the first of those events and that added to an improvement in form at the end of the regular season,i think 85s on here win only,is more than generous. Also took 14 for a top 5 finish.I think it's a positive that he took the finals week off and headed back to South Korea as a plus,as I think one thing he's been guilty of since turning pro is having way too big a playing schedule.

Yang - I'm pretty much basing this one on an improved last time out showing and also the price. He's only shown little glimmers of a recovery this season but a tied 3rd last time out in what was admittedly a weak Asian Tour/Japan Tour co-sanctioned event, means i'm going to take a chance on him.Led the GIR stats as well for that event, and although far from bombproof,i've been tempted by the win only odds on here of 230 and I've added in a top 5 placing at 34 also.

Best of luck to all for the start of the new US Tour season.

Decided to have a go here.Looking to get Jonas Blixt matched at 25's. Might be obliged by one decent soul overnight. I like where he is at -2. Later starter tomorrow. €30 on the nose.

Got a bit greedy on Blixt and will leave it overnihjt. Backed Ishikawa at a nice price I think he looks to me to be a 50/1 shot. That is a bit of value gone under the radar.

If I may say so, a more honest opinion should have been given BEFORE the first round was completed.
But we have come to expect little else from our resident After Timer.

Matsuyame, IMHO, now powers ahead to take this with ease, as Billy The Horse reflects on a remarkable season, and prepares for next years extravaganza ! Cool

Garrigus is having a 5 foot birdie putt at nearly every hole at the moment.

It wont last.
