Of fairly undistinguished golf . Plenty of interviews , green shoots always on the horizon .

Only saw Rory play one shot tonight , from 25 yards short of the 17th green ,nothing in the way ,  easy peasy , 15-20 feet ( probably) past the hole  , leaving a dastardly fast downhill putt , which most people ( including Rory) would have missed .  Point is , shot should have been below the hole , and  inside 5 feet would be expected from any pro . Commentator was also surprised at how poor the shot was .

Have my own thoughts on the rapid descent from golfing excellence we saw in 2012 ( most of it anyway) , equipment and ball figure among those , percentages debatable  . At what stage do the golfing public put a temporary line through him as regards being a contender ?

I did , early in this year . Is hope that  some semblance of excellence re- appears sooner rather than later a pipe dream currently ? And with Tiger comfortably at No 1 and doing a Herb Elliott we need some credible challengers to Tiger , otherwise golf  reverts to a one man show , which becomes tiresome and is not good for the game , no matter how well Tiger plays .

Hope its soon , therhino, need some challenge to Tiger , and Rory proved last year in particular that he was special . Plus he was good to back and trade over last few years , not so this year to date .

Watched a clip of Rory tonight on some site on my sons computer . It was about his new house , his pool table , his hot tub , his mothers cooking ,his sound systems etc .  Daytime TV is full of stuff like this , probably why I never watch daytime TV unless it is  decent sport .

Viewers comments were spot on .

Apparently Rory's Daddy has been playing away from home, so the lads head is just not in the right place at the moment.
Keegan Bradley is 10/11 to beat him in a 72 hole match bet in the US PGA. Has to be the bet of the Century !

Change the heading to 9 months plus ( although he did play well in one tournament , think it was the USPGA ) .  However he has effectively disappeared from the golfing consciousness in the course of the last year  , and only appears in the non golfing sections of the sports pages and in ads.

Re-appeared over the weekend in news about another change of management , which is going to take a while to sort out legally I suspect . If you are on a downward trend maybe its a good time to re-assess , but the jury will be out on this one for a while . Adam managed a Roger type set up successfully and it may work for Rory . Doubts will remain though until there is evidence on the scoreboard .

Having jumped successfull ship twice now in a relatively short career and changed successfull equipment also  questions arise . Jury out on these matters , hope Rory sorts it out .

Meanwhile Gmac has plotted a much quieter route to contentment and has brought another good looking addition to his already ordered life . Congrats Gmac .

Nice to see Heinz's bet of the century go down. Can't believe this wasn't so newsworthy.

Tiger never admitted anything was wrong. Always the game 'is good' 'promising' etc etc....didn't believe him either but fair play, turned it right round. As did Westwood, down to one million in the rankings, as even did Howler, who was in a terrible place 4 or 5 years ago.

Rory on a different planet to those, and if he wants to, it will come. Don't particularly enjoy his new persona but we'll see.

One of the big problems with a management team involving family members is the extra pressure it brings on decisions .  So if your hotel or flight or whatever doesn't fit your eye , do you blame your da or do you bite the bullet and struggle on . Always a harder decision to dispense with family advice if things dont work out  , its not like leaving Chubby or Conor .

Only time will tell if change is good .  In the meantime lots of followers will be marking time . Do hope it works out , Rory has rare talent , but we haven't seen it for a while . And the local sports coverage is missing him , we have few enough world sports people .

Nice to see Howell win, you can only beat those you are up against but agree with you about the strength of the field. The euro event winner only get 10 more world ranking points than the winner of the web.com tour final.

As for Rory, he showed some signs in the play offs but is simply making to many doubles or others on a consistent basis which suggests to me its as much in his ahead as much as anything else.

Hopefully for him he is working hard on his game and will come back strong for the end of the season.

Woods 'slump' was different, he suffered a number of significant injuries and probably had to rebuild his swing for his long term benefit. in 2011 he missed the summer injured came back probably too soon for the bridgestone and the pga then missed the play offs. He played in the frys then his next two starts were 3rd and a win. He was soon back winning regularly in 2012.

Cant keep Rory out of the news , today its about him allegedly "dumping" Caroline . Twitter nonsense started this last development apparently , why are there so many people with nothing to do but indulge in "social media " stuff ?

He was at Ravenhill on Friday night , hopefully that registers a return to some of the basics which took him to No 1 . I always worry though when I see golfers wearing glasses , a golfers biggest asset is their eyes  , and anyone who wears glasses regularly ( or sleeps in them ) will always struggle on course at some times ( particularly if it rains ) .

Tiger , Padraig , Ian are all golfers who have had various trysts with the eye people . Just wonder what part it plays  , very few peoples eyesight improves with age .
